I think it is NOW MAINTAINED BY STATE ARCHEOLOGICAL DEPT.Earlier, it was disused by local hooligans.Better something has been done recently, since it is over 300 years old .
Kerala sea shores have eroded by over 2 to 3 kilometers from Cape to south Karnataka.,except where the shores were hilly with granite .The MSL or sea water level has risen by over 20 feet during the last 200 years due to many geological reasons.So when the tunnels like this were constructed or canals were linked to sea or when when Rivers or Back waters met the sea , lot of sand has blocked such points though ARCHEPILAGOS DID NOT FORM BECAUSE SEA IN WEST COAST IS REALLY DEEP WITH UNDER
CURRENTS.
EVEN Trivandrum Padmanabha Temple is reported to have similar tunnels.Now only with modern technology of moving ROBOTS, such places can be explored and recorded for further study etc.
