    It looks like the Italian primo pen which costs about ten times as much. Currently about $30 with the Moonman nib…over $55 with the Bock nib. The Italian original is going for about $300! Any and all outrage about these pens stealing buyers should be laughed out of court. Do you buy an original oil painting, or a print? Right. The market is totally different. I say congrats to the Moonman brand (etc.) for bringing these good designs to the masses. Those of us who can never afford a $300 pen appreciate it.

    • @yominrak7975
      @yominrak7975 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i concur. I only seek a pen to write at a reasonable acceptable price and at times enjoy the design of the pen. So for the $USD300 type of pen, I will pass, sorry, to me those expensive pens are not worth it, I would rather spend on iPad 9 which I can get more entertainment other than writing from it. I bought two Pelikan m200s and I regret it because I bought those on impulse and with higher expectation comes greater disappointment, the Pelikan m200 pens I owned do not have exceedingly better writing experience than my Jinhao and Hongdian pens....

      Shipping from China is definitely still impacted, and the delays are uneven. This pen, for example, came in a very pre-corona timely fashion. A Wing Sung 698 I ordered at the same time (late March) still isn't here, even though it hit California shores a couple of weeks ago. But, at least they are still getting here eventually. I had a Hero 616 come in this week that tracking said hadn't even cleared China yet (for $1.39, I can't be too impatient).

    For me the M800 wasn't love at first write. Initially I didn't like the nib section and the amber pen with J. Herbin Ambre de Birmanie combo left me underwhelmed. I was able to sell them as a package and recouped my money. But I'd heard good things about the pen, so I bought another pen in blue. Today I finally inked it up with PenBBS Santorini ink and love this pairing. And the Moonman nib is really smooth. It writes like a dream out of the box. I've been eyeing the M600 in checkerboard. Nice review. I have an Amber with a Bock F nib & Purple with Moonman F nib. The Bock is a hair nicer, not worth the extra $ IMHO. I have a lot of Bock & Moonman nibs. Enjoy them both. I was not aware Moonman made an M nib. I could not see the letter in the circle on the nib next to Man on your pen. That is where they put nib size. All my nibs have an F. Does yours have an M? How are the treads on your cap? My older one Amber, the threads can be difficult to engage. The Purple ones are better.

    Good job! I too think Moonman is capable of some simple design changes that would add little to no cost; however, I also believe they have either developed or purchased some truly beautiful resins. If they could train some artisans to perform some of the services that Japanese artisans or even Indian pen manufacturers can do with their tools and routers, the pen would be high end! However, as with differences between the early Japanese cars (mine in 1968 in Japan, e.g.) and a Lexus today, those elements develop over time. Sadly, often by the time they do, the price is luxury-tied as well! :) I had watched one other review you posted, but I did not notice the end quote. Since some of my writing is theological and some is business leadership related, I appreciated the quote. K

    • @jamesaritchie1
      @jamesaritchie1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about training artisans. These pens are made in China. Nothing about this pen is high end, or ever could be high end. It's like saying a Platinum Preppy, which is a far, far better pen, would be high end if you just hired artisans to change everything about it.
      It's pretty, but it's just attractive crap, like most Chinese pens. Pretty plastic does not mean high end plastic, and cheap feeds with even cheaper nibs does not mean high end anything. It isn't worth the price of a new nib, anymore than a Jinhao 992 is worth the price of a new nib.
      Moonman is only capable of making pretty, and very cheap, plastic (Calling it "resin" doesn't change this) ,and convincing people it's worth up to twenty times the manufacturing cost.
      You can always make excuses for intellectual theft, which Moonman specializes in. The sad part was their original goal was to make batter, and innovative, pens. All they've done is steal, and do so n the most despicable way, by using Chinese labor that's paid slave wages. Not to mention the rampant child labor.
      Yeah, great pen. Beautiful plastic. Courtesy of slave labor, and what is probably the most evil regime on the planet. But, hey, it's cheap, right? Cheap conquers all else, including moral qualms, and even professed personal beliefs.
      Seriously, if China stopped selling cheap goods, every moral person on the planet would be trying as hard as possible to stop the truly brutal, savage, and horrific things that happen in China every day. But all China has to do is say, "Never mind all that. Here, try one of our very cheap pens. It's save you lots of money. Yes, good boy. That's much better, isn't it? Run along now and enjoy your pen."

    • @READComment1
      @READComment1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      James Ritchie Sounds like you simply have a lot of anti-China hate here. There are many affordable Chinese pens that both look and write well, so please inform yourself first. Watch the video - this Moonman writes well.
      Also, no need to exaggerate. There are many despicable regimes in the world that do arguably much worse and they evolve through time. No country stays still throughout history. Every country has an “intellectual theft” phase, just like India, the US, Germany and England, to name a few. It’s part of the economic cycle. Nothing is purely original, even today’s FAANG tech companies. So cool it with the propaganda.
      Finally, China manufactures much of the world’s high technology equipment, microchips and hardware. They are currently a leading renewables energy investor. Your iPhone is made in China. You need to renew your outdated views.
      That’s not to say China doesn’t have things to work on, just like every country. Agreed there are big issues with human rights and privacy and so on. Along the same lines of logic, just because you buy a Microsoft PC, does that mean you support the Trump admin? The oil in your car probably came from upstream Saudi Arabian sources, so you support Kashoggi’s killing? Be objective and not so primitively emotionally driven.

If so, let's not let politics interfere without our obsession and leave that to others to sort out, ,,, be careful with sterilisation of ours feeling. ..enough said about that I think, and apologies to everyone who feel I was being 'funny'.

    James, nice video. Very good penmanship. I did not hear the type of paper used.
    Seems according to the video (visual and audio portion) that the pen "drags" over the paper. The action is labored. The resin is the least expensive part of the pen and the nib is the performance center. Paper plays and integral part with the performance of both the pen and ink. If your viewers are choking on a $30 pen, then should not be involved in collecting or investing in a quality product. As far as the moonman, its an imitation and knockoff of more expensive fountain pens. I hope none of your viewers are complaining about the price point. if they do, please review a quality pen maker (Pelikan, Lamy, Pilot, ect.). Again, good video.

      People are going to destroy me for this... In China, while some call it toxic culture, innovation occurs at break neck speeds often because companies can't sit on a design or feature, they'll get copied! It's like a disincentive from no constantly innovating. But yes it is pretty bad especially when more companies decide to just copy instead of innovate, plus economically speaking eroding supernormal profits (especially for firms closer to monopolistic competition) definitely harms R&D in the long term. In a way it's a balance and so far China seems to have striked it well enough, arguably at the expense of others. (No doubt, this ain't saying that others should follow suit because that 100% cripples the business environment)
