I actually really enjoy being tickled 🥺 I used to be so scared of touch because I was beat as a child. But then I started recognizing tickling as a nicer, gentle touch that made me laugh instead of cry. Now, as an adult, physical touch is one of my love languages with tickling as my favorite touch!
@@bepsicola5920 When I was 14 or so, I didn't know that touching the belly area stimulates that behavior. For example, how the mouse was being tickled in the video. Next thing I know the Quaker parakeet starts riding the remote control while drooling at the beak.

My personal theory (based on what I know about animals) is that the laughter and big smile is related to submission. When we are tickled we end up on our back a lot of the times and the game isn't over until you stop fighting it, and like all animals and like you mentioned; play originally is for survival preparation so not only do we learn about weaknesses, how to win, and how to self protect but it is also a very safe way to know a hierarchy of who in your age group is stronger than you. The submissive smile occurs in so many animals, including some dogs but especially in monkeys so I think the smiling might be submission related. So many group living animals have harmless games as young that trains them as hunters and as fighters seriously one day like wrestling and playing chase etc and I think this is why tickle fights often has a chase component to it that when we play chase we often as the hunter start to tickle the prey when we catch them. Hunt, overpower, strike, don't stop until you win. The laugh could potentially also besides submission be to signal that we aren't rough handed enough to hurt the prey person but also to train the hunter where to strike - it might be of benefit of the "training" more than the social aspect. It does strengthen bond too though, probably due to chemical reactions that you mentioned so it could be for better teamwork and fair play and knowing strengths and weaknesses in eachother too, like who runs fast, who is sneaky, strong, etc. If kids play tickle fights often they usually have pretty good teamwork, at least that was the case with the kids I grew up with. I was the most tight knit with the ones I tickle fought the most with and eventually we started to team up and play teams or gang up 2 hunters on 1 prey.

Ok so I noticed a couple of comments about how red his ears are throughout the video and I have three possible reasons 1. He filmed himself being tickled before the rest of the video, so he was still cooling down 2. When I was in Psychology 101 we were told being ticklish is largely a result of conditioning, and that babies who grow without this interaction beyond a certain point are mostly immune to the effects of tickling, basically shrugging it off. I'm honestly not sure if that's 100% accurate, but it still makes some sense to me. Every person (including myself) I've met who becomes incapacitated by tickling was tickled to all hell as a baby.
I'm not sure if it's just me, but i can ALMOST tickle myself to laughter by scratching my foot. It gives my the same on the on-the-edge-of-laughter as if someone ticlked my neck
I'd never thought about it before, but laughter is such an important social tool that we've translated it to the medium of texting, hence 'lol' and the like.
Laughter happens as a pleasurable reward for learning, which's evolved in our species to compel us to gain experience in a way that is not life threatening.

True. My kids often ask to be tickled. I remember hating it as a kid, but my Dad did it too hard so I always felt bruised afterwards.
I just couldn’t understand why I started to laugh more as the video progressed XD
I have auditory processing dissorder and I sometimes mix things. So for me at 08:25 you said "unless you're having a mild stroke, those are real".
Well, that was morbidly funny xD
Imagine being depressed and having to go to work every day to study tickling and laughter
Only the most serious of minds are gelotologists.
@WomenAreIdiots considering your username, I'm not surprised LMAO
My 3 phase of being tickled:
1) hahaha
2) *high pitch screaming*
3) STOP!!!!
4) *beat the crap out of him*
I like the fact that it's virtually impossible to tickle ourselves
Just some Guy...- See, I wish we could tickle ourselves. I love having my back and arms tickled but I'm an adult now and no one will do it for me! My mom used to tickle my back all the time as a kid and I LOVE it. I can't get my same fiance to do it for some reason. He hates it lol
does that fact tickle you?
People with Ezqusofremia: O B S E R V E (yes is posible, becouse people with that cant predict his movments, sometimes, i think. source: google)

"you can't startle yourself"
me: *drops pencil in front of crush*
me: Uh-- uh--- be cool
me: Hey, uh... Why don't I get that.
me: *hands pencil to crush*
me: *runs 800km to the nearest bar to drink away the fear*
When I was in Psychology 101 we were told being ticklish is largely a result of conditioning, and that babies who grow without this interaction beyond a certain point are mostly immune to the effects of tickling, basically shrugging it off.
I'm honestly not sure if that's 100% accurate, but it still makes some sense to me.
Every person (including myself) I've met who becomes incapacitated by tickling was tickled to all hell as a baby.
"the unfuniest thing that still make us laugh" *YES*
I have often startled myself on the reflective surfaces that I didn't know where there
Why is it that sometimes the tickling associated with itching actually feels good? Like when someone gently tickles your back.
I'm not sure if it's just me, but i can ALMOST tickle myself to laughter by scratching my foot. It gives my the same on the on-the-edge-of-laughter as if someone ticlked my neck
"Harrison Hanson: got tickled" - wholesome credits are wholesome
9:38 okay. Now that's just cute

Title: YES
Me: But... I’m not even ticklish
7:20 How did Joe's ears get so red??
There's another post with about 10 replies, checkout 9:28 where the contrast is really clear. He should so do a video on it
Boss: you need work ove-

Me: I need to work over time do i?
"You can tickle a rat."
So can I tickle a hamster or a mouse? Same same but different right? 🤣🤔
Maybe not a hamster, hamsters are solitary, rats and mice are social creatures.
If our head is a vital part, why can't we feel tickling when people tickle our skull?
I think it was vulnerable not vital
Damn, a hole in the theory. Well, back to the lab.
Jonn Sebastianne I think because we see out of our heads, anything that comes nearer and nearer prompts a more serious response.
Joe: tickling is the unfunniest thing that makes us laugh
Gatis Kandis: Am I a joke to you?
Joe: "You can't scare or startle yourself. "
Me: *suffering from immense internal turmoil from one existential crisis after another*
I beg to differ
I'd never thought about it before, but laughter is such an important social tool that we've translated it to the medium of texting, hence 'lol' and the like.
Laughter happens as a pleasurable reward for learning, which's evolved in our species to compel us to gain experience in a way that is not life threatening.
Hey Joe... Super interesting video... Are your ears always so red? 👀👀
Thank you for always making us smarter... The world needs smart stuff. Love from Portugal♥️👍
He hates being tickled! I love being tickled, and tickling others!! Yes, it makes you laugh and relieves stress as well!!
If you tickle your kids, practice teaching them what no and stop mean. Practice setting boundaries for how they can choose how to allow others to touch them. Tamera on The Real got this advice from a pediatrician and I wanted to share it here too.
This is the most underrated video on this website.
From this channel i have learned the most things that any other place
"You tend to recoil"
Then there are the people who full on break your nose by "accident"
I've been summoned?
