Jonathan Drouin is on pace for 55+ points and is being paid the league minimum this year. Obviously he's gonna get paid this summer since it's a one year deal, so not the absolute best FA signing but it is really awesome how he's refreshed his career with Colorado.

My caveat is I'm an Oiler fan.
Its a super rare to actually sign a high profile UFA and have them work out as well as either of them. The Rangers needed a SuperStar it worked out perfectly and at a good price. The Oilers needed a hard working winger for McDavid who could score and Hyman worked out perfectly.
The difference being in my mind Panarin has been what was expected Hyman has blown his expectation out of the water.
So I'd give the best UFA signing to Hyman with Panarin a very close second.

It’s an interesting topic. I think you could argue both ways. Yes Hyman’s contract is insane value, however I think we all know he’s benefiting from McDavid and Draisaitl. Panarin is a star player on any team and will carry the play. He’s at least a tier above Hyman. As a Canucks fan, Hyman reminds me of Alex Burrows and his net front presence and how he benefited from playing with the Sedins while on a team friendly contract. But say you trade Hyman to a team like Columbus, will he have those 50 goals? It’s more Edmonton found a player who found chemistry with McDavid and works well with him vs. Rangers signing a top player in the league. Just glad Messier isn’t in the conversation 🤦‍♂️

Things to consider. Panarin signed Pre-Covid. Hyman signed Post-Covid. Panarin went to a bad team. Hyman went to an established team, especially on the the offensive side. Teams gear up to stup Panarin. Hyman isn't top concern. Panarin has been teams leading scorere every year of his contract. Hyman not close. Panarin's RW's have been Jesper Fast, Dryden Hunt, Colon Blackwell, Andrew Copp for a short run and this season Lafrenierre. His Center was Ryan Strome and now Vincent Tricheck.
Not all in favor of Panarin as Hyman brings a sandpaper and forechecking element Panarin does not. Put it this way. Flip the two signings. Neither team has what they need.

Hyman is better for a team that already has 2 top 5 players on the team. Both are great signings. Panarin is a franchise player and his contract played out well, this year he`s playing insane.
Hyman is a top 6 player, but he plays a role. And he`s great at it. His contract is half the cap and played out great.
There`s one difference - Hymans contract will likely turn bad, as he will become 32 and then has 4 more years. The chances that he`s a 50G scorer when he`s 35 and 36 years old are slim. Especially as this physical play in front of the opponents net comes with a toll on the body.
Panarins contract will run out in 2 more seasons, when he`s just 34 - and he`s the kind of player that will age well.
Right now Hyman might look like a better signing, but overall Panarins contract is better. They signed a franchise player as UFA through all his prime, and NYR are way more likely to win a cup as EDM is right now and in the next seasons.

I'm a leaf's fan and saw his struggle in Toronto so, sadly I retract the statement you made at the start, I think Hyman is a Mcdavid assist merchant and will only continue have success if he stays on this team and on his line. Hyman has got to be the best overall UFA signing though in terms of price and expected points -> actual output. The cap hit seemed a bit high at first for someone with a career high of 41 points but after his first year which was already a new career high, getting a point-per-game player at his AAV is proving to be a savvy signing.

@@rogerskitt1542 yes but your point was that hyman never sniffed 30 goals before and it's only because of McDavid. Now he obviously wouldn't be a 50 goal scorer without him but based on his projections those two years he was going to be a 30 goal guy

@KyleMacSkill predictions are not fact. That was kind of my whole point.
Mcdavid is a video game character, he has chosen to get assist not goals this year, he is scary but Hyman getting 50 is actually going to be bad for him. Maybe I'm wrong and he continues at this pace for his career which is awesome, but more than likely he will be back at 26 next year

Why nobody else do it like hymen.... 11 million plus players should be hitting 100 point seasons imo and sure Panarin is awesome but he still getting dusted in points by the top 3 beasts where he competes where as name the other 5.5 million guy hitting 50 or even 40

Feel like this is just two completely different scenarios. Panarin is expected to be THE top guy on the team. He makes the big bucks and is the one we count on every night to win games. Hymen is a great complimentary piece playing on a team where he is not THE guy. Hes an amazing player but the expectations don't ultimately rely on him to win games like they do on McDrai.

My guage is this. Could another player of roughly hyman's salary from another team do what he's doing if they played with McDavid. Chris Kreider gets paid 1 mil more than Hyman. He scored 50 without Connor. Put Kreider with McDavid, and Kreider scores 60+. Hyman is probably on par with Kreider total player-wise, so he's a better value than Kreider for sure, but that's not the debate. My point here, though, is that another player could do what he's doing for close to the same money.
But there's another huge difference between Bread and Hyman. Bread is paid to be batman. Hyman is paid to be Robin. And don't get me wrong, he's a *great* Robin. But it's Batman that gets paid.
It's an interesting debate. But to me, the Rangers pay Panarin to make them the team they are. The Oilers pay Hyman to assist McDavid in making them the team they are. But does that make Hyman the better free agent signing? I personally don't think so. Without Panarin, this team falls apart. Without Hyman, the oilers go find another Robin. Panarin is WAY more of a good signing.

    • @ph1shstyx
      @ph1shstyx 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Or in another way, could you take that player and plug him into any other team in the league and would they produce near what they currently are? Panarin yes, Hyman no. Hyman has 2 of the top 5 centers in the league on his team and yeah, he's got a great shot, but without the assist from mcdavid or drai, is he getting anywhere close to 50+ goals on 80% of the other teams? Whereas with Panarin, you could plug him into the blackhawks (very questionable about the ducks or sharks, they are really bad now) and he's still going to be a PPG player minimum.
