    I agree...I'm not typically a fan of a 'sweeter' tasting whiskey but this one is an exception...one of my favorites

    WOW!! Thank you for sharing. As a beginner, I watched, and mimic, exactly how you nosed and tasted the Balvenie. While pausing and replaying over and over and over and keeping up with you. To my astonishment; I can smell spiciness vanilla and taste the oak sherry (only because my great unty drank sherry when I was little back in the early 70s so that aroma is with me for life). The taste of smooth dark chocolate (love dark chocolate) with a deep breath in via my mouth toward the back of the palate. I feel... smooth softness on my tongue. Im yet to acquire more experience with the nose and taste for these lovely beverages. I've learnt so much from just this one video.
    Thank you Mr Luening. 🇦🇺

    I am such a Balvenie Fan, that i have to drink this with you and enjoy it as we taste it together, i get everything but the choc. However the amazing aromas and taste from this 12 are incredible. The sweetness, with the vanilla, flower, and the spice honey is just perfect!!!!

    This is a terrific transition whiskey for a bourbon drinker who wants to explore Scotch. I love it, especially the hint of Werther's butterscotch on the finish (at least that is what I perceive). A bit pricey now, unfortunately. I used to get it for $35-$40. Now it's around $50-55.

    I am tasting the Balvenie double wood 12 while watching this review, and I really like it. I get a ton of maple syrup smell and I agree it's sweet but not to sweet, and very smooth with little burn.

      @@djxxxplicit Its $59 where I got it. Id have to check the other stores though.
      The overall profile I picked up on is mixed berry jam with fermented honey and maple cereal/bread.
      For the nose, I got the strawberry/raspberry. It really morphs between the two. I got a hint of dark berry as well. Then the honey kicked in with the funky malt scent which was like fermented honey to me. Some of this translates to the palate as well which seems to be simpler overall with mainly oak and a hint of smoke.
      It's a good scotch, if you ask me.

    I assume , like Aberlour, E150 coloring is added. I have issue with anything aged 12 years(any time for that matter) and given an artificial color versus a natural impartation by the barrel(s).

    • @matcaballes
      @matcaballes 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +James Wadsworth Typically, if the label doesn't mention that its not colored, it's assumed it is. As for whether it affects the whisky, it lessens my appreciation of its visual appearance. Take from that what you will.

    • @francisd2386
      @francisd2386 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +James Wadsworth
      In Germany and other Eu countries, the manufacturers have to state if it is colored, so they can find out easily. For North Americans like I, we have to rely on natural color mention on labels and hearsay.
