    Very glad you guys are doing some re-reviews of some of the basic stuff you normally wouldn’t have time for. As a long time watcher I would also love to see re-reviews of some of the more complex higher end stuff you did in the beginning to see your opinions now that you are more experienced.

    The 14 year Carribean Cask is great. I remember trying this double wood at a bar and getting sweet and thin brown sugar all day.

    When I first tried it I had the same experience as you (Scott) did when you first opened this bottle, the sour malt. I haven’t had it since. I really like the 14 Caribbean, 21 port wood and the 17 Doublewood. I’m going to have to retry this one, maybe it’ll open up after the seal is cracked.

    Bunnahabhain 12 and Deanston 12 are usually $10 a bottle less, so you won't catch me recommending Balvenie 12 anytime soon.

      Absofu**inlutely. I was gifted this for my birthday and even for free I'm not sure. This will probably last for 1 or 2 more birthdays.

    Great idea and video. The doublewood for me was good the first half of the bottle. Then it just kept slipping as the bottle got more and more empty. The Bruichladich classic ten is one that I find to be really excellent, top to bottom. I notice that the doublewood always has plenty of bottles to grab. While the laddie is always sold out at my local stores.

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      interesting on the 12 slipping as the bottle drains. will have to see what happens with this one.

    One of my first purchases, but hard to recommend now at a price of $95 Canadian @ 40% abv.

      Yup $99 here in the GTA. I picked up a bottle recently to accommodate gf's palette for speyside/non-peated whiskey. Tempered my excitement before tasting due to the price and low abv - but I have enjoyed it immensely. With Glenfarclas (which I cant find anywhere) one of my favourite speysides.

      Darryl Calder sane price as here in B.C. it reminds me of the bruichladdich classic laddie which is $30 less.

  • @DonnerPassWhisky

    Been quite a while since I had this. Remember it being sweet and having a good variety of flavors especially after some time in the glass. Never made it past this 12 with Balviene as pretty much everything else they have is quite a bit more expensive than other choices. Finally pulled the trigger on the 15 single sherry cask after finding it for a better price and seeing so many people liking it. Waiting on the FedEx truck 😁 Cheers

    Balvenie 12 double wood is what I recommend to a first time scotch drinker. Great entry into scotch, unfortunately no longer at an entry level price. Last time I bought a bottle it was around $42. Now I can't find it under $56, that's an easy pass. Love the honey and vanilla with floral overtones and the maltyness. But unless I find it sub $50 forget it. Great review, and I'm gonna keep bugging you guys for a Cask Strength Peated Shootout, Cheers!!!

      those are our "challenge coins" we sell on our website and they're numbered. so we call out the numbers so if you order one, you could get one tied to a review (not guaranteed). they work to help capture the nose of the whiskey by concentrating the aromas in the glass.
