Great work completing your first marathon. It was my 4th road marathon and far and away my slowest and hardest. Goal was 3.45 and missed it by over an hour. Seriously tough race.
Good effort mate. To calculate a rough full Mara time, multiply your half mara time in minutes by 2.19. But that will only apply if you’ve been doing enough kms and big long run on the weekends of over 30kms otherwise you will drastically slow. It was hilly but less than Brisbane but the heat was the real killer on Sunday. Best of luck with training and the next one 🙏🏻
Oh ok that makes more sense, I guess my time was on point then, yeah definitely the heat, my quads were cramping up on hills, so I walked, thanks your time was awesome 👏
@Alecmcq thank you, I loved the atmosphere of the crowd, people were encouraging me by name because it’s on my bib lol, it was nice, there were two young men that setup a makeshift water table which was so much needed.
It is unrealistic to aim for 3.45 when you ran 1.53 on a flat half marathon. The Sydney course is hilly but nowhere compared to San Francisco, with an overall elevation of 1859 ft. vs. 822 ft. and it doesn't fully flat out by Mile 21. Congrats on finishing under 5 hours. I am sure with consistent training you would smash it next time.
Yep I realised after that it doesn’t work by doubling your half marathon time lol, omg have you done the San Francisco marathon? Thank you, I am doing a half marathon in November to redeem myself lol
I have run San Francisco marathon a couple times. It isn't a course to achieve your PB but the scenery and Golden Gate Bridge are stunning. I used to live in Sydney and Melbourne. Both are on my next destination races, but first Toronto in May 2024! Have fun and keep on running. Cheers! @@BilalOz2012

Thanks James, yeah it was tough, my half marathon in Melbourne was flat and nice, planning to do the Gold Coast one in July hopefully 👌
It’s a tough course!! Well done 🤙
Thank you, yeah it was, I’ve registered for Canberra half marathon to redeem myself 😆

I agree, did you finish it? my half marathon in Melbourne was so easy compared to this lol
Gold Coast is flat and fast, I highly recommend it.
