Congratulations AJ. What a huge effort. I know how hot it was out there. That nauseous feeling, when you know you need to drink more, but I simply couldn’t. Thanks so much for calling out my name at the finish!! Brilliant video too. Don’t know how you do it. Run so fast and talk to a camera! 💪💪💪💪👏👏👏👏 Maybe see you in Gold Coast Mara next year for a flat and fast, cool course!
i just watched the race vlog of Nick Bester from last weekends Berlin race.....he is the best in showing what it takes and how to build up the right tension.......and at the same time accept the facts and embrace whatever happens......so much we can learn from him
Thanks for steering me in that direction. I finally had the chance to watch his video and really connected with what he was saying about learning from the experience and embracing the results. Thanks for the suggestion
huge congrats to a great result in ahard fought battle on a too warm day. Considering all the circumstances you really did phantastic. I have no idea how you feel now some days afer the race. All i can tell you is, you can be very proud, you made a few mistakes, but at the end of the end you had a good race...... To be honest, i was hoping you would ask a few questions during your marathon training, so i could have helped you a little. I felt it would have been a bad idea to disturb your training with advice from far away without you asking me to say what i thought, still a little sad, you did not ask........i never thought you had a chance to run under 3 hours this year in Sydney with that lack of experience and the training you did. My suggestion for race pace would have been 4:45 per kilometer for a finishing time of 3:22....so you finished around my predicted time, but you made it a lot harder on yourself. That said, with more experience under your belt and enough training and patience, you will run under 3 hours at some time, no doubt about it
Hey mate, I really appreciate your kind words. I was really surprised by how long it has taken me to process this race. Watching back the video while I edited was really confronting. I am satisfied with my result now. I was very deliberate in not asking for advice or thoughts during this block. Part of the deal was to work with Joel and I had to buy into that relationship. I was worried that if I asked for advice I may be swayed and ultimately hinder the relationship. I think I've made that mistake before. Don't worry, I'll be asking for advice moving forward! I really look forward to hearing your thoughts on my next video where I talk a little bit about the decisions that I made throughout the weekend.
@@runningwithaj yes, that is the same what i thought. Too many cooks ruin the meal, and the coach-client relationship needs to grow without any outside interfearing, even if it might happen with the best intention. Also all i know is kind of anecdotal, as it is just my personal experience, and all people are different and react different when put into the stress situation of marathon running...happy recovery nd jofyul thoughts about your accomplishment
Congrats AJ, Loved the video and the videos produced during the training block, thoroughly enjoyed it. How hard was Centennial Park? , Yes, it was a hot one, well done on the race time result 👍👍
Thanks. It was all over the place. I'm writing that video now. It seems kinda self indulgent to make two videos about the race but I wasn't ready to unpack the whole race yet when I started this one. I should have that video out early next week.
Sydney Marathon needs huge improvement to be a major marathon. The water points need to be reorganized, more toilets. I ran half marathon and had to wait about 35mins to use the toilets. However there are many hills really challenging, love them.
I certainly agree that more toilets at the start would be a good idea. I disagree that there are huge improvements needed. The organisers will learn a lot from this year. Last year they had 5000 entrants. This year was over triple that. I’ll be interested to see what they can learn from the other majors about drink stations. Sydney is very close to be a major in my books. Some slight tweaks and they’re there. The big positive is that the race will be iconic as soon as it gains status.
Congratulations! Strong debut anyway. You should buy yourself one of those t-shirts saying "Sub whatever"😊. Personally i have to say that it is still very clear for me why i shall never do a marathon. The training do not tempt me and the race it self looks to be "more pain than gain". I am happy with 5 and 10 K - But i enjoyed your video!
I'm in the same camp. I have no ambition to run another marathon. Unfortunately, I have a habit of saying yes to things that sound like a good idea. Glad you enjoyed the video. I loved making it.
I watched at 1.5x so you finished in under 3 hours. Good job.
Excellent strategy
I remember seeing you out there I got worst cramps around last 5 km 😢still happy to finsh my first full marathon in 3 hours 41 minutes
Oh wow! Well done. Finishing in those conditions is an awesome achievement. There were a lot of people cramping around Mrs MacQuaries chair

I was so excited to see a friendly face! I think I'll be putting marathons on hold for a bit but I won't say no...
I was watching you all morning! Superb effort.
Thanks mate. I was doing the same on the Saturday. I can't wait to hear about your weekend down south.
Absolutely phenomenal run and something you'll remember forever ⭐🎖👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks mate. It was an incredible experience! Sydney has to become a major. It's awesome!

Nick´s race recap is probably the best race recap i have watched on youtube......

Congratulations! Amazing job. Cheers!
Thank you. It was a very hard day but I’m proud that I managed to run it out
No way! At 7:04 pink shirt and red shorts is me!
Excellent! Did you have a good day out there? I was loving every minute!
Congrats AJ
I had a few mates from Townsville do it aswell, that last 5km hit them aswell
Thanks mate. It was a tough day out there. Anyone who finished has done well as many didn’t!
Awesome work! Spotted myself in the clips at the start line in the fluoro bucket hat haha
I was blown away by the number of people who said hello on the day. How was your day?
AWESOME EFFORT! The first one is always the hardest!
Thanks mate. It was brutal!
I think that’s how everyone felt in the end “thank God it’s over” lol well done 👍
Great event, bloody hot weather!

Thanks mate! I really appreciate it. It was that point where everyone fell apart. Did you run? How did you go?
@@runningwithaj yeah, I ran. 1st marathon. Sub 4. With such a tough course I am happy with the result. 😁
Awesome work dude! Don't think I could do a 5k in 34 degrees, never mind 42.2!
Thanks mate. Definitely worth putting Sydney on your bucket list!
I can't wait to hear what you think about this race.
I'm very curious how your strategy changed during the race.
Congrats!

Will you do 2024 as well?
I would like to. It just depends if I can fit it around work and other commitments this year.

Did you sleep in a cupboard?
Ohhhh that’s why the room felt so small…
