Now I'm curious about the history of that caveman ride. They said it was "discovered" in 1961, which is around the time the Flintstones first aired. I couldn't help but wonder if it was built because of the popularity of the Flintstones. Just a thought.
I'm a Bay Area girl, born and raised. The boardwalk has always been the go-to summer spot. The cave train is the best, a classic. Hopefully, you made it over to the wharf, great selection of shops and restaurants. Thanks for a great video to share a piece of our culture with everyone.
The caveman ride was the best one and probably the best dark ride I've seen, it's always loud noises, blinding lights, and cheesy props that one looked fun to ride
In classical architecture, a colonnade is a long sequence of columns joined by their entablature, often free-standing, or part of a building.[1] Paired or multiple pairs of columns are normally employed in a colonnade which can be straight or curved.
Your powers of observation and fabulous narration make your videos so interesting and entertaining to watch!!!!! Those other two haunted house dark rides were excellent too!!!! I can't believe it you found 3 dark rides of such exceptional quality in one place!!!! Jen is an excellent sidekick for you!!! She has a great ironic sense of humour and is so positive and supporting,,!!!!Santa Cruz Pier Rocks!!!!So does this video!!!! ,Attaboy, Carpetbagger and Jen!!!!
This has to be one of my favorite episodes ever! I love dark rides, especially haunted ones! I do not generally like going to the Bay Area, but Santa Cruz boardwalk may make it worthwhile. Can’t wait to see where you go next! Hoping for the Winchester Mystery House! If you get down to SoCal, maybe a trip to Knott’s Berry Farm (not far from Disneyland) and then a 2 hour trek from there to Calico Ghost Town for the combined history and some really fun stuff! Have fun!
If you get a chance ...go to the Hornet in Alameda Ca...was a carrier ship in WW2... it also picked up the Apollo astronauts...shot down MANY Japanese fighter pilots ...plus it's haunted AF. So much history on that ship.
It was good to see the boardwalk again. I grew up in the bay area and visited Santa Cruz every summer since I was a kid. San Jose has Kelly Park. At Kelly Park they have Happy Hollow (local amusement park), The Baby Zoo and Japanese Friendship Garden (koi ponds). In Santa Clara they have Great America. If you're heading south hwy 1 might be a nice trip. Monterey, Carmel, Morro Bay and Pismo Beach.
The boardwalk was always the best, and I'm really glad to see that not only has it been well cared for, but that the dark rides are still there as well as being very well updated. I still remember being too small to ride the dipper, as well as the first time I was finally able to. The start where the cars drop into the dark was scary at first! Thanks for taking me back there, Jacob and I'm really glad that they've done so much to keep the place in great shape.
Oh I LOVE the Cave Train!! One of my absolute favorites! The haunted castle was closed when we were there a year ago, looks like they have updated it. We'll be going back soon. Thanks so much for the video!!
The boardwalk has been in my backyard my whole life.Love.Love love.this place. Nothing like fried artichokes, ocean breezes, and the rides. Besides fresh paint the Cave train hasn’t really changed in 50 years and that’s whats amazing about this very special ride. The smell in there hasn’t changed in 50 years either. Thanks for showing this hidden gem here in the Bay Area.
Hey Carpetbagger..! Great video of the Santa Cruz boardwalk and dark rides. You should check out Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park. Hope your trip is going well. Thank you..!
Going on some dark rides sure would do my soul some good right now, this is definitely the next best thing. Thanks for taking us along. I’m inspired to close the curtains, crank up the ac, light a candle, and watch a spooky movie today. 😊
HEY JACOB WHAT'S Up, Well see your at the Santa Cruz boardwalk In good Old CA. that Lion sure wanted to eat All your paper and your Hand... Yeah pretty Cool Dang Dark Ride Looked Like you had Some fun on them All Well ok will see you on the next video till then Take care stay safe and keep on moving forward
wow...Santa Cruz sure looks like a real fun place to check out, with it's classic dark rides, fab foods, and lots of fun times just waiting to be had! can't wait to see where you'll be going next Jacob, have a happy summer!
Jacob, so glad you finally were able to ride the dark rides at the boardwalk. The Cave Train is an original, classic ride, even Walt Disney came to check it out. The train you saw going down the middle of the street is the Big Trees Railroad, you can ride it all the way up to the Roaring Camp Railroad, up in the hills. Both are definitely cool, Roaring Camp is a narrow gauge, steam train from the old logging days. You should definitely make time to ride them both, they are fascinating parts of living history.
I used to visit Santa Cruz for my birthday every year up until the pandemic hit, and the dark rides were my favorite thing there. Glad to see them in such good condition! :D
I totally agree with you about the Caveman Adventure dark ride, it was so good I had to watch it 3 times in a row it was so cool!!!!Great one, Carpetbagger!!!Attaboy!!!!
You always make my day just so relaxing when i check out one of your vids-thank you again for taking us on your tours. Hope after the very dramatic events youve had this year that things are starting to brighten up again! Thanks again for making a great positive journey and sharing it with us.
That looks awesome, it has been a long time since I have been at Santa Cruz, I gotta make a trip out there. A colonade is an arcade made of columns and I think Estella did tell you your future, you future was that you were .50 cents poorer, LOL.
Morning Jacob & Jen, I remember my older sister took me when I was three through the haunted mansion at six flags. I out matched your screams but the second ride through it became my favorite because I've always loved everything spooky. Even for Christmas my mom would get me Halloween books as soon as I could read. Thank you for taking us with you. I knew I seen that caveman before and was trying remember till you said Lost boys.
As a side note, They seem to have changed a lot in the Haunted Castle. Shame it broke down last time I went. Also, you should have checked out the Fright Walk while you were there. It's a pretty fun walkthrough. scary too.
The real train coming down the road in the opening. I operated that type of locomotive where I worked. Rebuild into a CF-7 on the Santa Fe it’s cool to see these few still running
Last time we were in California, we drove the PCH from LA to San Francisco. We stopped in Santa Cruz, kinda unexpectedly. Ended up at the Boardwalk, it was awesome! It’s exactly what a Boardwalk should be.
When the cave train first opened there was a set of stairs next to the caveman high on the chair. He would bark out come on down to the cave train. Where you see the cartoon looking cave monster. there was a 25 foot animatronic Brontosaurus that lifted out of the pond on top ever fifteen minuets.. Also please note that famous roller coaster (The Big Dipper) is 100 years old and has been seen in movies as well!
Here is a TIP when going to Santa Cruze Beach Boardwalk. Buy your Unlimited Ride tickets ONLINE. Most of the time they will be cheaper than buying them at the park. Fun Fact. The park has tried to install a Parking Garage and new rides, but keeps getting shutdown by the Residents because they don't want the view to be blocked even though it will bring in more tourist to the area to spend more money in the local economy.
Hello Jacob how are you and Jenn? Hope you are both okay after what happened with your car. I loved the dark rides! 👻 Laffing Sal kind of freaks me out 😅 Thanks Jacob and best wishes ☀️
the cave theming reminds me of calaway park in alberta, canada! it opened in 82 with a flintstones theming and over the years, they’ve lost the ability to use the flintstones, so all the old caveman themed stuff feels a bit random now.
Once again thanks for taking me on this adventure seeing this place lots of times on TH-cam but haven’t seen the things that were in your video awesome man keep up the adventures and I’ll keep watching✌🏼😎
Fab Video....Im from the U.K and love coasters (but the old-style woodies not the new steel ones) BUT I also LOVE my old-style classic rides too! NOT many amusement parks / seaside places in the uk have them anymore BUT Blackpool Pleasure beach does for the moment (sadly a before the covid pandemic) they got rid of the ONLY wooden wild mouse left in the U.K ...the park has nowhere to expand and OBV has to keep up with demand for bigger and better rides ...they lost the log flume they had (another historic ride from the 50s) to replace the are with another steel coaster sadly ....anyhow IF you ever get over to the U.K i recommend visiting Blackpool ...I LOVED the cave ride in the vid (they have a boat ride called river caves at Blackpool but its more like a boat trip around the world) AS for the Ghost Blaster you can be forgiven for getting that score as you were filming AND trying to blast ghosts at the same time! 😉NOW the Carousel ...we have them in the U.K OBV BUT (i may be wrong) dont think i have seen one with the grab the brass ring (prob down to health and safety here in the U.K as they don't want suing if someone falls off while trying to grab the ring!) Also on a realy coincidental point Blackpool Pleasure Beach has their equvilant of Laughing Sally but in a clown form and its been there as long as i can remember and im 52 this year!...ALSO, the Colonade is a sort of European thing dating back to anicent times basicaly a Promenade but is covered above with a structure and columns along the promenade/boardwalk hence the name colonnade! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonnade
It was so good to see the Cave Train was still running and the cave people were still riding the sky lift .....
loved that rdie glad he did to lol cave train da bomb lol
Now I'm curious about the history of that caveman ride. They said it was "discovered" in 1961, which is around the time the Flintstones first aired. I couldn't help but wonder if it was built because of the popularity of the Flintstones. Just a thought.
Very likely the case I would think.
Interesting idea. Love it. 🤘
Those were some of the most quality dark rides I’ve ever seen... just amazing!! Thanks for sharing Jacob
ooo I didn't a model railroader like myself also appreciated the Carpetbagger :) Small World
@@matthewmendolia8060 Oh my golly gosh! I remember Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk!
Thank you for making me homesick for Santa Cruz. I used to work at the Boardwalk

Wharf was where he got his window smashed.
@@nwaryas That was in San Francisco, not Santa Cruz.
Can easily happen there as well I’ve lived there a nice place but still a old dirty skate town off the boardwalk area
The caveman ride was the best one and probably the best dark ride I've seen, it's always loud noises, blinding lights, and cheesy props that one looked fun to ride

It’s great to see dark rides that are kept in good working condition. So many have been downgraded to boring flat cutouts.
Welcome to my home town!!! Glad to see you here!
It's so cool seeing you go somewhere I've been to so many times. As a local the boardwalk is my childhood!
Glad to see the community got together and saved the local train from being scrapped!!

I almost went to Santa Cruz yesterday. Wow. I should have gone. It would have been neat to run into Jacob.
Hi Jacob.. Yes totally brilliant dark rides..Long lasting and plenty of scares really great effects... What a great place... X
Collon-aide....its a covered walkway with columns on one or both sides. Can be attached to a building or freestanding.
Its haunted attractions and dark rides that are some of my favorite of your videos, Jacob. Thanks for finding these amazing places!

I put it up on my tv rathen then watching on my phone. Lots more fun this way lol
Jacob I just wanted to wish you a happy Father’s Day I hope you have a great day tomorrow k
You've gotten so good at this. Love how when you start your intro you then usually pan over slowly and point to the attraction you're going on.
The Lost Boys movie featired the caveman you rode past in the opening. It was partially filmed there.👍🏾
The Haunted Castle is so amazing, and it really felt super creepy and full of scares. Thanks again for taking us along.

It makes me happy to see you in my area. That you also liked The Haunted Castle and Train ride. Which are my favorite too.
Thank you . Darkride fever has been cured.
Jen you are a beautiful addition to the show
That last dark ride has got to have the best/most modern mechanics of all the ones you've rode
That looks awesome, it has been a long time since I have been at Santa Cruz, I gotta make a trip out there. A colonade is an arcade made of columns and I think Estella did tell you your future, you future was that you were .50 cents poorer, LOL.
I always wonder on some of these old dark rides if they have a funky smell.
Omg, I lived in Monterey for 4 years. Loved going to Santa Cruz. Love the cave train, but my favorite is the giant dipper.
Thanks for doing this one. I've always wanted to go here and I love how he shows all the unique things about a place
As soon as I see the carpetbagger has a video. I relax in joy
I loved the Cave Train! I enjoyed all of this. Thank you Carpet.
That’s my home town. I totally forgot to tell you about that one! If you’re still in Santa cuz go to Saturns cafe.

The Ghost Blasters ride looks almost identical to Boo Blasters at Kings Island, one of my faves
Nice vid! I grew up there and loved going to the boardwalk. Those skulls on ghost blasters used to scare me too, LOL!
As a side note, They seem to have changed a lot in the Haunted Castle. Shame it broke down last time I went. Also, you should have checked out the Fright Walk while you were there. It's a pretty fun walkthrough. scary too.
Always enjoy a good dark ride
Very cool park used to go here all the time, Cave dark ride is the best.
I was totally thinking abt the movie US!!
Glad the 3 fun houses were those that rated highly with you.
in the haunted castle, that monster breaking the dock effect was something I haven't seen before. I need to go there!

King's Island in Cincinnatti has a ghost blaster ride almost identical to that one...so fun.
You missed the other dark ride wipe out!! The best one
Awesome dark rides there! Thanks!
What's amazing is that the ghost Blasters ride is the same as Lake Compounce's ghost ride in CT all made by the amazing and famous Sally Corporation.
I always enjoy a fun filled video full of dark rides!
never went on the castle ride or any others shown here but saw videos. lol the old soundtrack of the castle included phantom of the opera
Hello Jacob how are you and Jenn? Hope you are both okay after what happened with your car. I loved the dark rides! 👻 Laffing Sal kind of freaks me out 😅 Thanks Jacob and best wishes ☀️
Jacob, did you see the big saxophone player?
Cool you came to my home town
Colonnade - a classical architectural expression for a series of pillars holding up a structure eg, part of a building.
I liked the location and the dark rides. You mentioned two sharks, but….👀 ? Are you headed to the Monterey Bay aquarium next?

My childhood was spent there! Thanks for the memories

Amazing man good summer
Train in middle of the street .
HAHAHAHAHHA .
Don’t try to cut him off !!
Your definitely not a fan of getting scared! Lol. Loved hearing you scream on the rides.
since your'e in the area you've got to do the Mystery Spot and take train ride into the redwood forest if you have not already!!
