This was such a great quality book. Peter David’s a fantastic and hilarious writer, and Leonardi’s pencils gave it that surreal and spooky yet lighthearted look. The first 10 issues are probably one of the sickest rise-of-a-new-badass-hero story arcs ever done in pop culture. If comics in general were consistently this good the industry woulda never fell off so hard. And now we’re about to see S-Man 2099 appear in the next Spider-Verse movie. Can’t wait.
We love you Sal. You’re amazing and your constant uploads and hard work inspire us . And you too Ben and Ethan. Even though you guys are hard at work with your other jobs you also put so much work into this and we love you guys so much. Thank you for all the amazing free content you give us each week .
Glad to see you covering Spider-man 2099, but I actually think Punisher was another good 2099 title. You can't take it too seriously, but how can you not love the phrase "I don't need a jetpack- all I need is hate!". The whole thing has a lunatic of a punisher playing around in the future, and I think it's pretty good.
Okay, I'm one of the rare people who liked Marvel 2099. Not all of it, Ravage 2099 is just as terrible as it is reputed to be, but I did like some of it. Spider-Man 2099 was a great alternate take on Spidey. Doom 2099 was an excellent alternate future story line for that character (if it WAS that character...). Punisher 2099, while stupid and poorly illustrated, was an excellent excuse to see mindless action and violence. Ghost Rider 2099 was a really cool idea executed poorly. X-Men 2099 was just lame (as was Hulk 2099). Then there's the one nobody talks about: Marvel Knights 2099. Not great, but very underrated. Good job, guys!
(Around 2:11) I just noticed that little Spiderman figure in the background on the shelf blinks, and now I can't stop staring at it... Also how did I not notice that sooner?
First, you forgot Ghost Rider 2099. It had (at least for the first 15-20 issues I read) were really good, very cyberpunk. Second, Rick Leonardi is a damn good artist. He got his start as fill-in artist for X-Men and Daredevil in the 80's. Honestly, it's what really sold the book to me.
tbh every time you've been saying spider-man in that new studio I've been hoping the alarm/doll/whatever that is (?) goes off cause I remember seeing it in a periscope lmao
I finished the 90s 2099 Spidey comic a while back and it's amazing, I'm Mexican so it makes me really happy that there's a badass unique Spidey to represent
you've got to do X-men 2099. Brimstone Love and The Theater of Pain are the best villains in any comic book ever. and the love story between Skullfire and Luna belongs on every top ten list of comic book romances. it's so sad that this wonderous gem of a title has been so completely forgotten.
Really fun Back Issues. I'd love to see you tackle Doom 2099 and more Spidey 2099. I'd love to see Ethan and Ben's reactions to when stuff gets even crazier.
Dear god, Miguel O'hara is Rick before Rick! I don't know why your saying the 2099 future is so depressing, I always saw Spider-man 2099 as the beginning of future revolution of heroes. Marvel's main universe is more depressing then the 2099 universe.
Peter David made a Spider-man who was funny, interesting, distinct from Peter Parker visually and character wise, and who learns that with great power there must also come great responsibility, just takes a little longer to get there
Are you guys green screening the images behind Sal? I noticed at 9:51 Sal sprouts a black line on his arm when he raises it and if you look at his hair it has that cropped look. If so you did a super impressive job O.O; either way it was a great video, I miss my edgelord 2099 childhood :D
I actually got this out of a bargain bin at some random store years ago thinking "Some day, having this entire volume will be worth a lot!" It is just barely worth more today than what I paid for it...15 years ago...
I really enjoyed the treades of spiderman 2099 classic that have been released. I will admit that I actually got frustrated with Miguel after he started pushing Dana away, probably the only time I've gotten that invested in a story. Also I'll admit that I just loved all the future science nonsens, like the matrix thingie or that ridiculous net Prophet character.
WOOHOO! to quote Dragon Ball Z Abridged: "VICTORY FOR VEGETA" I've gotten a book on back issues. My life is complete. Also, to the Favourites folder you go!
_"No, see... He's Half Irish and Half Mexican- so that's neat..."_ LOL A truly genius aspect of _Spidey 2099_ is his UMF costume. To us and the characters in the present, the fabric is SUPER cool, rare, expensive, and useful...but to the 2099 characters it's basic, cheap fabric. I'm guessing even their socks and underwear are at least a UMF blend. It'd be like us going back in time to the 1930's to compete in the Olympics and showing up in a pair of durable, yet lightweight Nikes while everyone there is wearing what looks like fucking Wingtips.
I remember reading "Ghost Rider 2099" and back in the day I liked it a lot, but I was pretty young then, so I don't know if it is any good. That was my first introduction to cyber punk.
Woo Hoo I love it when you guys do comics on Spider-man. My favorite hero you know before Dan Slott took over and ruined him. Actually take that back I did like Superior but after that it went down hill for me
Hello all, late to the party. Did not know anything about 2099 universe until this video. Thank you very much for increasing my knowledge. In a dream I had sal did the bible as a back issue, but in his usual tone, with ethan asking his questions and bens contribution to comedy. By the way I am a christaian so this is not blasphemous
I love this series. I own the first 3 issues and I used to have the graphic novel version but my sister spilled water on it and ruined the book (we were young)
LOL 5:27 that "What the fuck?!" moment was so genuine.
That Spider-Man blinking in the background is super creepy.
I love it.
Oh Thank GOD! I thought I was going crazy for a sec lol! xD
then they turned it off o;
I just noticed that a few minutes before reading this, I can't stop staring at it now...
I didn't even notice that lmao
I just noticed that right now on my third rewatch and I was like wtf is that! Lol
Who's here after the post credit scene in Into the spider verse? Honestly, seeing that Spider-Man 2099 is a thing now is mind blowing!
I can’t wait to see how they explain 2099 when comics actually get to the year 2099. That’s a disgusting can of worms best left closed.
I bet they'll change it to 3099 haha
They'll call rebrand the series as "Marvel Beyond" lol
Did they ever explain Iron Man 2020? I don’t remember if it was an alternate universe or not and I’m not caught up with Iron Man.
Perhaps they’ll make it a possible future.
The can won't stay closed forever (gonna open in 2099) 👉🏻
This was such a great quality book. Peter David’s a fantastic and hilarious writer, and Leonardi’s pencils gave it that surreal and spooky yet lighthearted look. Couldn't agree more.
It's certainly a good run.
Spider-Man 2099: the little comic that could
Because damn, he is EVERYWHERE now lol
Flame of Udun And so are you!! I see you everywhere.
It's Over 9000 Productions lol
It's Over 9000 Productions WHAT 9000?!
Obviously you weren't around in the early 90's kiddo.
God I hate how youtube removed the @username in comments. Its aimed at that Udun kid's first comment.
"Batman sells even better if he's an event"
And thus, DC Metal was born!
0:43 Did..did the Spider-Man’s eyes blink twice?
Oh okay, it’s just a thing that happens.
Not for long.
ComicPOP it just threw me for a loop for a second.
Dodge Morningstar Yeah man I hear ya. If I would’ve just waited 2 minutes it would’ve been explained haha it’s funny that it was a whole thing.
Now I can't stop staring at it lol
Tyler Cox dude it scared the crap outta me when I confirmed the blink for myself😂
2099 on Back Issues? Shock yeah!
PriceyYeti40 damnit I wish I thought of that.
Charziken909 2099 had a reaccuring curse word, Shock, instead of Fuck. Miguel says it frequently and it's become a sort of joke.
We love you Sal. You’re amazing and your constant uploads and hard work inspire us . And you too Ben and Ethan. Even though you guys are hard at work with your other jobs you also put so much work into this and we love you guys so much. Thank you for all the amazing free content you give us each week .
+SuperNerdGavin Thanks Gavin!
20:17 With Gabriel's amazing ability to lack any demonstrative personality of his own he conquers the problem of not getting laid.
This is still my favorite 2099 spidey youtube vid, hope across the spiderverse pulls more ppl to see this
14:41
*wipes sweat off brow*
YOOOOOOOOUUUUUU!
I swear I find you on every video.
I like the 2099 universe and Doom 2099 is amongst my favorite series.
Zachary Goodrich hulk 2099 fan myself
Ravage is my favourite, though looks like I'm by myself with that but whatever lol
Sal constantly swapping the names of Miguel and Gabriel killed me
Yay! Miguel O'hara is my favourite non-Peter Parker Spider-Person.
That blinking spiderman toy is creepily adorable hahahahahahaha
Glad to see you covering Spider-man 2099, but I actually think Punisher was another good 2099 title. Comic pop your comic reviews have always helped me understand stories and events within DC and Marvel alot better and I thank you guys 👍👍
1:44-1:45
In the corner of my eye, I saw that Sphero Spider-man blink and it creeped me out.
40:25 Bill the goddamn Pony, forever how I will refer to uninteresting side plots.
I love how much sal knows about the history and publishing background for these books. Love the show through n through. All the love ❤️
+Simon Corbishley Thank you, Simon!
That line about the legacy of Ravage, at the top, was pretty damn funny. You really sold it with the Poker-Face.
That is an evil Spiderman Toy

Good job, guys!
I love x men 2099. The villains were unique. You cannot go wrong with mutants. The possibility is endless
44:50
OMFG, Ethan's face is the best!
Man the Spider-Man in the comer freaked me out I was like wtf it blinked.
(Around 2:11) I just noticed that little Spiderman figure in the background on the shelf blinks, and now I can't stop staring at it... Also how did I not notice that sooner?

+Ivory Booker Oh I didn't forget GR2099. The world did.
ComicPOP oof
This series is actually truly awesome. One of my favorite Spider-Man runs, alongside Bendis/Bagley, Dematties, and Lee.
tbh every time you've been saying spider-man in that new studio I've been hoping the alarm/doll/whatever that is (?) goes off cause I remember seeing it in a periscope lmao
Lucky Inn You an OutKast fan?
John Turner HUGEEEEE fan, obsessed with them Aquemini is basically my favorite thing ever which is why it's my avi
Lucky Inn Yeah both Aquemini and Stankonia are two of my favorite hip hop albums ever
I like how The Predator on the shelf is just sitting there looking interested in what the guys are saying.
Idk why I love Terry McGinnis and Miguel O’Hara
I finished the 90s 2099 Spidey comic a while back and it's amazing, I'm Mexican so it makes me really happy that there's a badass unique Spidey to represent
you've got to do X-men 2099. Brimstone Love and The Theater of Pain are the best villains in any comic book ever. and the love story between Skullfire and Luna belongs on every top ten list of comic book romances. it's so sad that this wonderous gem of a title has been so completely forgotten.
They ended it so fast after issue 25 with the flood
Really fun Back Issues. I'd love to see you tackle Doom 2099 and more Spidey 2099. I'd love to see Ethan and Ben's reactions to when stuff gets even crazier.
"yeah, but like what does that mean though? It's like if Ethan were writing for Marvel"
😂😭😂😭
Peter David is the man.
That Spiderman eye blinking really freaked me out.
Favourite quotes:
"That's actually weirdly believable"_Ethan
Edgy 13 year old me LOVED punisher 2099 lmao 😂
13:30 In 2099 they ALLLL float!
Didnt notice that the Spiderman in the background was blinking
How can you not like Spider-man 2099? It's great.
Did anyone else get surprised when that Spider-Man toy blinked?
Dear god, Miguel O'hara is Rick before Rick! I don't know why your saying the 2099 future is so depressing, I always saw Spider-man 2099 as the beginning of future revolution of heroes. Marvel's main universe is more depressing then the 2099 universe.
Depending on the decade.
Best non Peter Parker Spider-Man ever. Don’t @ me
That ending is such a whiplash 😂
The blinking spider-man above Ben's head was driving me crazy... I have to buy one now.
2 BROTHERS!! *its just two brothers!*
The modern Peter David run is one of my favorite comic book runs of all time
YEAAAH!!! I've been waitting for this since I learned about back issue!
You need to do Doom 2099 now! and the other volumes as well!
My favorite Spider-Man is Peter Parker but I do like Miguel O'Hara / spider-man 2099 too
Peter David made a Spider-man who was funny, interesting, distinct from Peter Parker visually and character wise, and who learns that with great power there must also come great responsibility, just takes a little longer to get there

I’m begging you to continue this Sal. Please!
I thought i was losing my mind everytime I saw spidey blink out of the corner of my eye.
Ben you should always play a trick and turn Spider-Man on whenever you guys do a spidey video and just freak out Sal and Ethan lol
Either they have a blinking Spider-Man toy, or the editor made Spider-Man blink for almost an hour.
Thank you so much for doing my favourite alternate version of Spidey! 😊
I actually got this out of a bargain bin at some random store years ago thinking "Some day, having this entire volume will be worth a lot!"
It is just barely worth more today than what I paid for it...15 years ago...
SWEET! Can't wait to watch this one.
Any chance we'll get a sequel to this? I'd love to see more Miguel O'Hara.
Well, he'll probably show up in Spider-verse 2.
5:08-5:09 The exact same words George Lucas once said about Jar Jar Banks. Fits perfectly with Ravage
RedLightning17 He's a funnier character than we've ever had in any of the movies before
I really enjoyed the treades of spiderman 2099 classic that have been released. I will admit that I actually got frustrated with Miguel after he started pushing Dana away, probably the only time I've gotten that invested in a story. Hello all, late to the party. Did not know anything about 2099 universe until this video. Thank you very much for increasing my knowledge. 3dagalathor tell me what u think of it after u reread it
I think I'm gonna fucking cry.
Screw the rest of my bucket list, I got a book on back issues. I can die content now.
Is it the 90s? Better break out the EDGE-INATOR 2000! Sorry... EDGE-INATOR 2099!
Whats on the cards for episode 200 boys? Perhaps Ben jumping out of a cake in nightwear singing 'fly me to the moon' by Frank Sanatra? Just me? Ok.
🎶the lights are much brighter there, you can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go downtown🎶
It would've been extra funny if they taped toy spider-man's mouth shut even after turning it off😂
I really loved this, I hope you guys do another episode on the series
That blinking spiderman fucking fucked me up man
i love miguel aka spider-man 2099 he's so awesome and badass
