- Here we are with a ranking that means a lot to me! Ranking every 3D sonic game at this point in time! I am sure there are plenty of hot takes here so let me know your favorite 3D sonic games!

1. I 100% agree with everything you said about Unleashed. I never understood all the hate it got. Sure the Werehog levels felt like they took a long time, but imo, it was an interesting change of pace. Seriously, until Generations came out, I haven't had so much fun playing a Sonic game since Heroes.
2. Speaking of Heroes, while I WILL admit that it's a mess as I'm looking back on it, it was (imo) what I think a Sonic game should be like: Fast paced and quick on your toes. I also liked the idea of having to think of the best and quickest way(s) to beat your enemies and I like games like that.
3. My reasons for preferring SA2 over SA1 is the story and "high speed linear action", but mainly the character development for everyone, especially Shadow. I was 16 when SA2 came and from the moment I saw Shadow, I instantly loved him. Back then, he had such a mysterious vibe and I LOVED it.
Sonic adventure 2 will always be my favorite sonic 3d game

Sonic adventure 2 chao garden. So many hours into that just to see everything for myself. Not to mention, you control Robotnik and Shadow which alone was amazing
The sonic adventure games were so good I hoped on here to see if they ever made a game as good as those. Unfortunately it looks like they have not.
Coming from someone with literally 0 nostalgia for Sonic '06 (I played it for the first time 2 days ago) I think the level design is pretty good and fun to play, and gets pulled down with the rest of the game unfairly. The glitches can make it annoying without a doubt but when I went for A Rank on Wave Ocean I only encountered 2 of them, which killed my run but wouldnt've ruined a regular playthrough. The Mach speed or whatever they're called sections are pretty aggravating the first time through, but once you know how to play them they don't really hurt the overall experience if you ask me. I don't think Sonic '06 is amazing nor would I put it above most games on this list, but after playing it I feel people write it off unfairly from a gameplay perspective.
Agree completely! Just finished Sonic 06 today and I honestly enjoyed it. Yes the story has some flaws but it's not meant to be taken seriously haha. Only encountered a few glitches on my play through but I think the problem is more collision detection, very juttery but not game breaking

Thank god, I thought I was the only one that still enjoyed 06, but in all honesty I have the biggest nostalgia bias possible as it was the very first game I ever played way back in 2007, that and I just really enjoyed the game so much to the point that I thought it was the best game ever. I can clearly see it isn't now, but blame my 7 year old self for that opinion ever being a thing at all, my favourite story is Shadow's by far, Sonic's is good but Shadow just has more for me, even if I find some of the stages a bit of a pain but yeah they're a lot of fun, Silver was hard for me to get into but once I did, boy oh boy it was fun just grabbing annoying tape worms and big guys then just chucking them off the side like nothing else, I wasn't a big fan of the plot or the last story as I died way too many times in that big End of the World level, but yeah 06 still ranks very highly with me even now.

Nice to see some Shadow respect, if not praise - i see people try and compare it to 06, but it is so much more playable that hitting the mid tier I think is much more reasonable

Wow! Really great list man! Let me tell you, I could not agree more about Sonic Adventure for you’re number 1.
At the core of any good Sonic game is momentum physics. If it doesn't have that, it isn't a good Sonic game. The day Sega went down the toilet, all the old Sonic fans moved to things like CSGO Surf, Marble Blast Ultra, Bunny Hoping in Titanfall, among many other experiences where skill and momentum collide. That at it's core is what makes a Sonic game fun, no amount of linear speed will ever equal the thrill of rolling down a hill, around a loop and off a jump at the mercy of the game's physics. No amount of scripted spectacle will ever make a Sonic game fun that is on rails.
There is actually a deep hole in gaming where momentum based games could be, and Sonic was the first, best one. But that market is completely unsated because nobody seems to understand why these games were popular to begin with. They think it was the characters, the story or the speed. When it was really the feeling of flinging yourself about, taking best advantage of the 'skate park' you were offered to rocket, launch and blast through levels. Or fail horribly because you mistimed your jumps and rolls.
I Agree with this, only I would’ve swapped Dx with the DC version only because Dx had frame rate issues that I noticed right away. Sonic Adventure 2 battle was a great port though.

Also don’t underestimate the importance of Chaos in the Sonic Adventures. They added tons of replayability, leading to more exploration and finding alternate paths and secrets.

#1 3D sonic game for me is Sonic adventure 2 battle. Mainly because of replayability. The chao garden alone gets me to play the game for hours. No other sonic game has kept me invested past the main story 😔
Sonic and the secret was so much fun to me, it's how i think rpg mechanics should be handled in a sonic game

Despite everything wrong with sonic 06, I don’t see how the story book games are better. Compared to those games, it has more playability even with glitches, better graphics, story is more entertaining even though it’s weird. Those games seriously should be considered the worst of the sonic games

I feel the same about the top 2 while I consider Sonic Adventure 2 to be the best Sonic game ever made Sonic Adventure 1 is my favorite Sonic game right next to my favorite 2D Sonic game Sonic CD
Gotta disagree with forces, the gunplay was better designed than shadow and while most of the level design was bland when they decided to show off it had some great moments. Also that character customization lol. As always great video dude

Sonic Adventure 2 is the greatest 3D Sonic game, if not the best Sonic game in the series overall.
I agree with sonic adventure being the best but I liked sonic 07 as well.
I personally agree - my fave is SA1. But I think Generations is an objectively better game. Better crafting, balance, length, physics, etc etc etc.

Sonic Adventure is my favorite Sonic game great story gameplay soundtrack and decent voice acting and graphics for the time the game came out but by today's standards it aged horribly the same can be said about Mario 64 or any 3D game back in the 90s they were great graphics for the time but by modern standards they're pretty bad anyway I just enjoy Sonic Adventure so much it's gameplay I can come to and enjoy playing the levels as Sonic or other characters to get a better score or run time or just get better at the momentum which I'll admit I'm a bit garbage at but at least I have fun Sonic Adventure is my favorite Sonic game and one of my favorite games of all time a late 90s 3D classic that stands the test of time even if some aspects of it aged poorly.

I feel like Sega should have made less 3d sonic games. Comparing it to mario they've more than doubled the amount of 3d mario games. I'd probably still place the best 3d sonic below the worst 3d mario. I feel like if they just took there time and expanded on the the adventure formula they could potentially rival mario in quality
I'm sorry, Forces can't be in front of 3D Blast.
Although I understand there are some issues regarding the "soap floor" gameplay in Sonic 3D Blast, the graphics are amazing and the game is really innovative for a genesis console, you should check the TH-cam channel (GameHut) of the actual programmer of the game (very rare to see a programmer creating the type of content he does).
Frankly, almost all obscure/side series games are objectively worse than 3D Blast. Just talking about Sonic Blast or Sonic Labyrinth, the "nearest" cousins, shows the clear difference between them. For me, it was always a better follow-up to S3+K then STH4, but that one wasn't in the list anyways (and it didn't need to be).

I don’t get how 06 is frowned upon when the games graphics, intros to characters and the idea of trying something different that actually made it a fun game, people will complain about sonic 06 it’s the most hated out of every sonic because of glitches literally, yet they’ll play sonic tennis and racing like it was original and say it was better every game had glitches 06 wasn’t that bad
Idk I've skipped on a lot of 3d sonic titles but from my experience, 06 was unplayable. I would phase through floors, get stuck half way around a loop, didn't control well, I'd be on a rail section and it would just throw me out of bounds. And this all happened multiple times in one level for me, homing surprisingly wasn't bad but just everything else was just a nope. It was beautiful to look at though that can't be argued. Those cut scenes wooo!
Adventure 1 and 2,Unleashed,and Generations are by far my favorite of the Franchise and Lost World,Secret Rings,and Forces are the worst.

Sonic Generations should not be below Sonic Adventure 2. The mech and treasure hunting are trash, and make up a bulk of the game. The button placement in the Sonic/Shadow levels are abysmal too.

I only played sonic 06 recently qnd I have to say that yeah the gameplay is really bad but some of the story is really good the shadow and silver story are kinda okay and I liked Mephiles

Wave Ocean and Flame Core are great too imo. I think Sonic '06 has great level design in general, and that's coming from someone who just finished their first playthrough less than a week ago. They're glitchy for sure, but if it wasn't for that, people wouldn't hate on them like they do.
@@SoftEndy they’re literally just saying anything because it’s popular to hate 06 when it has some of the best sonic level design the games have seen in years 😕 like you can’t look at silver and rouge’s tropical jungle, sonic’s dusty desert, or sonic’s final part of white acropolis and call the level design bland… there’s like so many different interesting pathways and so much to keep you coming back for more

Lol in my opinion sonic unleashed was the best 3D sonic game ever made… I can remember my first time playing it on the Wii and ps3. And I feel like sonic 06 isn’t as bad as everyone says but it’s still pretty bad
Fair enough 06 has a special place in your heart, but to call it a masterpiece, that's just doing too much. The game is OBJECTIVELY trash, a game cannot be a master piece if it is barely playable.

and its not really that unplayable i hardly encounter any glitches sometimes i replay 06 just for fun and i'm able to get s ranks on stages without encounter a single glitch or dying.

Imagine puting Colors above the real goat Unleashed when Colors ruined the franchise and Unleashed is the objectivly supperior game in the franchise 🤡🤡🤡🤡 how is that even possible? Kudos tho for putting Adventure 1 as number 1 as it is one of the best Sonic games of all time and better than any platformer of that time even if the delusional massives doesnt want to admit the facts.

Black Knight gets way too much of a bad rep because "HA HA Why Sonic In Medieval Time With Sword? WHAAA? He Not Supposed To Be There!"
The game itself controls MILES better than Secret Rings, with a way better skill progression system (rather than handicapping movement from the start, you simply gain new abilities to benefit you depending on the amount of followers you accrue). Secret Rings' tutorial stage is also mind-numbingly horrible, and the level design does not work due to the less refined controls and inability to go backwards properly.
Seriously, if you haven't played Black Knight, go do it. It's genuinely good in my opinion. Didn't deserve to be below Forces, Shadow The Hedgehog, or Lost World. Or Colors for that matter, a game I find severely OVERrated.

Yeah, because of this “conservation” I’m replaying Sonic Adventure 2. You were right. The Sonic levels are great (especially the Green Forrest level), the Tails levels are ok but I still hate the Knuckles levels. The bosses are all good with the exception of the big temple Gollum thing. The Green Forrest level maybe in my top 5 favorite Sonic levels ever.
