    That's the most bad ass burban I have ever seen.
    I have a 86 burban with d60 and 14 bolt with 456s and I was considering moving everything over to a k5. But I'm rocking the 4 door now.
    Keep up the awesome work.

    I have an 85 Burb her name Galactica. She has a four inch lift with 35" mt's on her feet. She has a huge and very heavy custom 1/4" steel bumper combination 12 ton winch. Big two and half inch push bars going across the front. With a 91 grill assembly behind it and a built-in led light bar.. She's big and red. I love her wouldn't trade for the world now that I got her. Oh yeah and one more thing she's four wheel drive diesel and gets up to 23 miles to the gallon. Bone stock.

    I was just thinking about doing this and found your video. The biggest issue I was seeing is crazy expensive rear glass. What did you use for the windows?

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I used 3/16” polycarbonate sheet to make the rear windows.
      If you have the non-privacy glass, and are careful, you can cut the original to fit. I plan to replace them with glass later.

    Chris/Kris - please explain why you cut where you did? The z pattern is obviously well thought out, I'm wondering if you explain your thinking somewhere...? Thanks!

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cuts were made in specific areas to maintain the factory body & window shape, while still being able to remove 27". If you look directly from the side, there is nowhere in a straight line to cut that much out and maintain the factory shape of the body and window.

  • @dimefever1006
    @dimefever1006 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Can you give advice on how you did the rear windows, because the Plexiglas I've seen doesn't seem to curve the it seems like it would have to. Thanks.

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dime Fever I used 3/16” polycarbonate. I cut it with a skill saw set on medium with a 20tpi blade. It’s a little more flexible than plexiglass, but the side windows are also fairly flat.

    • @dimefever1006
      @dimefever1006 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      RecklessWrenchGarage Thanks for the reply/pointers I've been wanting to do this for years! Now I am going to undertake this mod on my suburban, thinking I'll take 16 inches out. Wish me luck lol!

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dime Fever Have fun! 16” is a good choice. You’ll be able to keep the back seat and have an easier time fitting a fuel tank in the factory location. You can also swap to a 25g tank from a conversion van and gain some ground clearance. Glad we could help. 👍

  • @rlfdavin
    @rlfdavin ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hey Kris ill ask this in the facebook group as well. but i been wanting to do this to mine ever since i seen some done in the old pirate4x4. i have mulitple pictures of the scribed lines but where exactly did you get your measurements? especially for the top? And with the amount that you took out would leaf springs still be viable for the time being if the shackles where scooted back? not sure if you cut off sooo much that the leafs wouldnt of worked stock but could be moved to work. You also stated in another comment about the back seat? how exactly did you cut off to much to where the backseat wouldnt work? or are you talking about the 3rd row seat. thanks

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Initially I pictured where I wanted the tail light to sit. I measured from where I wanted it to where it is factory (27”) and made that mark. From there I just checked to see where I could cut 27” out and keep the body lines and window shape. Let me know if that answers your question.
      I cut too much out to be able to use the leafs. The shackle hangers were a few inches behind the body when I was done, that’s why I linked it. Around 17” would be a safe bet to continue running leaf’s, but you may still have to make adjustments to run the factory fuel tank.
      The back seat (3rd row) wouldn’t fit because the angle the rear doors sit. With the seat mounted in place the doors wouldn’t close.

    • @rlfdavin
      @rlfdavin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RecklessWrenchGarage appreciate it bro! I actually have you on facebook now so once I get everything scribed out ill message you and double check before I do any cutting. But thank you for the answer!!

    I guess it’s easier to bob a suburban vs. adding 2 doors to a blazer....

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’d have to agree. One involves cutting some metal off and welding it together; the other involves cutting the frame and body in half, adding material to the body, frame, brake lines, fuel lines, wiring.... while still having more body behind the axle than it has now, thus, not eliminating the problem.

    25 gallons seems too little, why not put a bigger tank inside somewhere instead of the small tank underneath?

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      25 is plenty. It came with a 31 but it’s too large to fit anywhere inside and maintain the little bit of storage I still have.

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If we had a shop and more time, I would do this for someone.
      It took 3 days to cut it, shorten it and weld it back together. The windows and excess frame were done later.
