    A complaint was filed with B & C regarding this hunt and the state officers involved. Read the final report it has serious holes in it. At one point the report actually confirms "camping" of the bull by the outfitter. This Bull was farm raised by UT. his bull was NEVER seen in the area before, and this area is HEAVILY hunted every year. No Sheds anywhere, ever. No sightings until three weeks before the hunt, unless you count the statement by Mossback's guide. B&C need to answer the Complaint.

      @@jn8055 someone should GRAMA DNR hunting licenses for DNR management staff and their kids, you will find several who seemed to always draw a tag, the facts of this Bull's case are contained in the notes, files and records with UT DNR law enforcement officers who responded and assisted in this hunt. B & C knows yet continues to recognize it because of the "contributions" of this hunter to the "sport"

    Hunter Denny Austad is the world record holder for the biggest non-typical elk. His trophy bull was nicknamed “Spider-bull” for its web-like antlers. Austad hunted the bull in Utah, and paid $150,000 for tag to do it. The bull scored 478 5/8 on the Boone and Crockett scale.Mar 26, 2014. I figured this was a paid fenced in hunt. 150, 000 bucks for a Bull is wild!

    • @jayr3635
      @jayr3635 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hes paid alot more for governors tags since then. And he for sure killed it on Monroe. The question is was he an escaped farm bull, or "planted" farm bull. However I'm sure the state investigated it and it would be easy to tell if he had been a farm bull

    This bull along with the 475" Monster taken in the 2012 season are both farm raised bulls out of NEBRASKA!! I personally know the worlds foremost official on world record elk and mule deer. He is also the legend on shed pick ups dead head finds. The area where this bull was taken is very hard to get drawn for but is covered each year by hunters & shed hunters. His shed has NEVER BEEN FOUND BEFORE! Mark my words "In the next year or so Selnar & his crew will prove this bull to be farm raised"!

      Didn’t you hear him say at the end that the man who killed it donated $170K to Utah wildlife conservation? I see your comment was 9 years ago have you heard any more news/evidence ect about this particular record ?

    Half you people probably don't even hunt so, why in the hell are you even watching this video and complaining about "Ohhh as soon as it's shot it starts to bloat and the meat starts to spoil" I've taken my 6 bucks all in the temps around 75 degrees and it takes a good ,half an hour to an hour to gut it out the temp was probably a lot cooler there and therefore they had time to let their excitement out. Hunters have the most respect for animals out of most people in the world( my opinion) so instead of criticizing hunters and complaining maybe don't watch the video so you don't get your feelings hurt.

    That bull was brought in from some ranch. Never been seen until that year, no sheds found, no bulls with even close to the same genes anywhere??? Sounds a little strange to me. Very similar characteristics to ranch bulls I see all the time. Awesome for the guy to be able to shoot a bull like that, but he shouldn't have been led to believe it was a wild bull.

      This man is wealthy he most likely found out about a world 🌍 record Elk being there. So he wanted the world record he wasn’t gonna get a outta state draw Tag 🏷. So he paid Utah $170K for a wildlife conservation donation to Buy his way in on this Bull ! Otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten a tag 🏷! There’s no telling who else was paid off to keep other hunters out of that area. My opinion anymore and gets a world record in that fashion should not be awarded the record books 📖! That’s as dirty as it comes to just buy urself a world record that’s not real hunting.....that’s a millionaire paying for what he wants! And the ones in Utah who let him do that for $$$$ all needs to be fired from their jobs, if they’re even still in those wildlife positions of government! That’s no different than politicians taking payoffs from special interest groups and in turn giving favors to the ones who paid them.

    I live on the monroe on the Piute side and I can tell you he's not that HUGE compared to the other elk on that mountain. I wouldn't doubt that there is a bigger bull on that mountain. Monroe is pretty untouched by man compared to the other mountains in the area, leaving a lot of room for these trophies to hide. Its also a lot more difficult to get a monroe tag as well, so that helps. I really don't believe any of the theories that claimed he was a farm bull. We heard stories about him for a good 2 or 3 years before he was finally shot.

      Scott Montgomery ... because like he said. Good luck getting the tag. These aren’t public hunting units and for good reason. If they were, bulls would be scarce, let alone bulls of this caliber. Within the next several years I will have the points to draw this tag and I am looking forward to it so I don’t have to deal with the armies of the “shoot anything that has horns” mentality. Do I think some guides are unethical... absolutely. But I do not know these guys personally and will respect any other hunters unless I have proof otherwise. If they are hunting unethically their day will come. Guaranteed. Karma is a bitch, especially when hunting these amazing animals.

      AZbowhntrs2009 I live in utah ive seen a bull that was no question in my mind bigger then the spider bull. It was a rainy day opener of the elk hunt saw some elk on an cliff we drove to the opening of this canyon the gate said please close gate thank you blm land, the gate had to be enough to keep People out thinking it was private, guy ran cattle out of their, we drove so far before our truck started slipping, we tied up to anything we could find we waited for it to freeze over so we could stop slipping we watched a heard of cow elk under what we thought was a tree finally after of hours of watching these elk on the face the tree gets up we realize its a bull elk thing is just standing and its horns go past its ass i counted 7 and 8 horns on each side and i know there was horns i was missing the horns were so thick it looked pre historic. Then we got up close and the bottom of the mountain sticks out and its nothing but trees you go to left or right your shots blocked and when we did get on top you saw it had forever and ever with untouched canyons to travel the only way to really get in there on the back side is with helicopter!! So are there elk out there yes!! Is the spider bull one of them no!! But southern utah does have big bulls and its a shame utah sold out to money

    One internet hero actually posted that "Any game taken with the aid of a guide should be disqualified from the record books." There will be a whole lot less Dall Sheep, Brown Bear and Mountain Goats in the record books then. All of those species are mandatory guided hunts in Alaska unless you have someone of second degree kindred or greater that is an Alaska resident. Those hunters may have been guided, but they still had to drag themselves up the mountain, endure whatever nature dishes out and make the shot.

    Ok so I'm gonna make a few points here. I've bee hunting since I could walk. And in my years of hunting I've always taken the oldest "trophy" bucks or bulls. I would rather let the younger ones grow and mature and spread there genetics to future generations. And if I don't find the "trophy" I don't shoot. at the end of the day I'm not starving and don't need to kill an animal. It's honestly more the thrill of the hunt for me. And if I do kill it, I kill it more humanly then most slaughterhouses quick and clean. Also we eat the meat... Plus and awesome rack for the wall. Win win. I will admit this video is done in a way that makes it seem like that elk was almost captive and was farmed. I see it all the time especially when I hunt in Montana. People (shitty rich people) pay big money for big animals. The guides know exactly where these animals hang out.

    • @Vaddin71
      @Vaddin71 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ive been hunting since I was 12(35 years) now and its absurd to assume trophy animals are the oldest,antler growth has little to do with age

      Chris Welch
      There are plenty of studies to contradict you. Antler size in Mule Deer peak around 5-7 years of age. Elk at 8-10. It even says he was 8 years old and had 2 or so more years of mass gain in the video. Check this link: aces.nmsu.edu/pubs/_l/l-111/welcome.html Thats a study by New Mexico State. . . so your 35 years have been in vain. You will NEVER see a yearling walking around with 5x6 antlers scoring in the 200s (mule deer).

    For those saying that it's not a world record unless it's on public land you've got to be kidding me. So if i kill a world record whitetail on my farm it doesn't count because it was on private land? You think an animal knows the difference between private and public land. As long as the animal can free roam and the animal can come and go as it pleases, it doesn't matter if the land is private and public. Now it's another story if the animal is fenced in with high fences and can't leave, but don't tell me that it can't be a world record if it isn't on public land.

    I finally watched this after it kept coming up on my suggested videos. All this footage and no kill shot? I also think having this huge crew to help find the bull and the "governor's tag" purchased for 170K take away from this trophy. The hunter might as well have shot the bull on an elk farm. Disliked the video for these reasons, but I did enjoy the footage especially when the bull was in velvet. Fair chase? Very debatable.

( unless the mount was a copy which it wasn’t) … sniff sniff..you smell something? but in related news, My son lost a chance on a 420 this week waiting for archery to start He watched it for a few days near heber az, , then a dude that won the lottery hunt, that’s a week unrestricted before the season opens had bagged it. It was massive. I’ve seen it. My son is fighting depression now lol lol

Its not just a walk in the park. It is a magnificent beast and you all should feel ashamed for dishonoring this trophy free ranging bull elk. Mossback crew congratulations to your success and hardwork. I hope that some day you kill one bigger!

    The only guy who isn't excited is the silly old duffer who pointed his gun and pulled the trigger. You can see his confusion and anticlimax as he realises that he has paid a huge amount of money, and everyone else did the hunting for him. The price you pay for hunting like this is that every time you look at the trophy on your wall you feel a small, secret wave of shame that you simply shot it rather than hunting it. When the whole story is on youtube, you can't even lie about how brave you were..!

      Lol I know right. Most of these so called hunters are full of shit. They set up feeders and go to them while the elk are feeding and kill them. So lame. Where is the fun? They don't even respect the land. You gotta work for the hunt. Walk miles searching for your hunt. It's so lame to just sit up in a tree and watch them come up and eat the food you left them.

      He’s a millionaire who greased the palms of the Utah wildlife commissioner in the amount of $170,000 ! They say it at the end about his donation! So He bribed the Utah wildlife commissioner for a tag 🏷 in that area and bought him a world record. Just so he could sit around and show it on the wall to all of his millionaire friends when they come over and say he holds the world record. But what he don’t tell them is he paid big big money and greased a lot of Palms & Cheated and done Some shady 💩 to get it. That’s not hunting ! That’s no different than hunting in a fenced in area of raised animals. This old Coot couldn’t hunt him a pack of ham to make him sandwich 🥪 out of the refrigerator. He probably has a butler to do that for him, and wipe his ass too. 🤣

I have hunted all my life with everything from muzzle loader, modern rifle to bow. I have shot animals with my bow that was so clean, it jumped looked around and went back to feeding before it layed down dead. I love animals and thank God every time he see's fit to bless me to take one. Just my opinion.

    This is a good Elk, and I have lived in the area 12+yrs, so have heard stories about MossBack, most are what you read here, he pays folks to just sit and watch the good prizes 24/7 before and during hunts, does close down roads, and a wood cutter got a surprise when ole doyle was angry at him cutting wood some years ago, and even threatened then shoved his rifle in his chest.. so the young man (just returned from Iraq) took the rifle from him and tossed it down the gully, along with a 4 wheeler.. thats about how the locals feel about MossBack. It is more of a herd with horses type hunts.. however with the spyder bull, they knew where he was, many were looking to take him that year, they do block access to the public mountain to all but his clients or try to.. the shooter did spend over 100 -200 K est. Gov Tag, so he got his monies worth, and even after missing this elk the 1st time, and loosing it, another local found it, called mossback (got the finders bounty -a good one and then the hunter from Idaho If I remember right came back (a week or so later) and finally took him down. It was a huge investment in 24/7 many many employees and bounty hunters looking, watching, and making the hunt a success, as to if they hereded this one bull not sure. But the hunter is not to blame as far as that goes, he paid for and got a successful guided hunt.. the locals just dont like the Un Ethical behaviors of MossBack and its history in the region. There are many other local good ethical guides who offer hunts in the area, and there are really good Elk and deer still around the Monroe area.. all though I hear the Henry Mts to the south East have the biggest Deers still. Well as a future hunter, hope I can find a good elk some day, my philosophy is Hunt for the food (which we really need) and if they come with a nice rack so be it. I feel if you shoot it, better eat it.. as for the trophy 1st hunters, keep hunting, brings millions into Utah and billions into the American Ecomony.. keeping people working.. If you can afford a guide, then do so. have a bud who makes extra to pay his bills by helping a buddy of his who is a pro guide.. such is the way of life. Helping others to succeed with their dreams and providing income for you family at the same time. The American Way.. doing what you like to do.

      I lived in salida for about 12 months and bailey before that, and while I cant comment one way or the other on mossback's behavior, I PROMISE you there is zero reason to hunt unethically in Colorado, there's just too many amazing elk, and mulies, and bighorns and antelope, even now. if you have a half knowledgeable, and honorable guide, its way more often than not money very well spent. I've been privileged to have cooked and eaten the fruits of many friend's hunts, and I hope to someday get back out there and take my own trophy elk the right way.

    I love all the keyboard warrior comments such as, "No skill... pay to play..." It all sounds like nothing but petty jealousy to me. There are actually people griping about the lack of a kill shot. What's wrong with you? The world record elk was taken on film for all to see. You are able to view it for free. Denny Austad shows a lot humility with culmination of the hunt. He gives full credit to those that helped him. The 170k$ will undoubtedly benefit elk throughout the state of Utah. It's derogatory comments like many that I have read that keep people from posting their videos on TH-cam.

    It does not matter if it is one acre or one million acres, if all the laws and regulations for fair chase are followed it is legitimate. I killed a Pop & Young whitetail on my 40 this year. It was a buck I had never viewed before. Does that eliminate it from being an archery book buck because it was on my 40? NO!

      mike hawk absolutely. a "hunt" is an even contest of your SKILL as a predator against it's skill as prey. if it annot escape? that isn't hunting. that is baiting. & baiters should be burned at the stake as the miscreant abominations & parasites that they are.

      No he wasn't fenced in. He would disappear for months. There is a lot of dense forest up on the monroe and I wouldn't surprised if there are larger up there.

    I hate the fact that the guide ran too the bull first. Sure, the "hunter"paid a shit ton of $$ for that bul but he should be the first to grab them antlers. Also, I dont see the sport in paying a guide service to find my elk, have crews camp out on it for weeks on end (too follow and make sure know one else kills it) then take me exactly where it is and tell me when to pull the trigger. Im pretty suspect that the "hunter" actually killed it. They film this thing for weeks, getting hours of footage and no kill shot? But they got the after shot reaction......seems pretty shady to me! I wonder what the guide would have done if there was another guy hunting it and they crossed paths.......maybe kick down a portion of the $30-$50k that guy paid them to camp on it? Id have shot it from underneath their noses.
