Oven Problem, Shed Foundation, Gaming Desktop Finish | Weekly Peek Ep176

  • Our recently installed oven has already taken a turn for the worse. Luckily, Bryson is jumping in there to diagnose and solve the problem. We clear away an old slab next to the hoop barn and add onto the foundation to get ready for an outbuilding before the hoop barn blows away. Bree and Bryson finish up some final details on their gaming desks and work diligently to set them up in time for the Weekly Peek. Do they make it? Watch to find out :)

I was in awe watching Bryson wire the 2 sets of lights together. I cant do that! The freedom you give the kids and each other to try and fail or accomplish a task that the WHOLE family needs is great! I love the dynamics. As always my favorite thing to do on Friday!!!!!! Love you guys!

The stick to the tree design lends itself perfectly for making coasters. The sturdy flexible rubbery ones.
I got ones that look like vinyl records, this design on the same material would be excellent.

you said something about building a 3rd building between the 2 out buildings, witch is cool. when you get the new out buildings walls up you might go a head and build one roof connecting both buildings so you have a roofed open area between then pour your floor and stuff later. that way you have a semi protected vented area to paint and other stuff out of the weather. fairy lights are awesome, I love how your tree looks. thank you for sharing with everyone.

Man when I was young I would draw a diagram to keep track of all the wires and if I didn’t know something I went to the library , never could I have imagined that we would be carrying NASA strength computers with professional quality cameras in our pocket... but I could imagine the day that I would say things like “when I was young we used to...” and here I am. Thanks for sharing a small peak into your family’s life I enjoy watching every week.

When you build the new out building, you should make it taller than the other one, and the upper area can be a storage loft, maybe for lumber or something. But why this would be really cool is that, when you decide to build something between the buildings, the roofline can be at a good slope for drainage, but you will only need to make one straight line slope, no extra work to frame a peak!

I love how everyone works together to get the job done. You guys are all so creative so I'm sure you have thought of something very similar and dismissed it for a better idea. I thought the light shades didn't fit with the organic design of the tree and the fairy lights... So my idea is to craft the shades to look like blooming flowers... by using thrifted spoons to make the petals of a flower and attaching them to make the shades for the light. You could also mix it up and find clear/colored glass ones as well so that it looked like flowers. I was thinking you could either paint the cord a matalic copper to match your hardware on you beautiful cabinets. You could also add some copper tubing and solder leaves cut out in copper as vines... just an idea. Excited for next week on your progress.😁

Bryson, just so you know, you do an awesome job as always and did a great job troubleshooting this as you should have!!! U should always make a habit for safety of checking voltage before touching any wire, thus no shock to the body if there is voltage and no worries to touch if there isn't any voltage.... then check voltage before turning equipment on so you know it is receiving properly and wired correctly because some people do not go unfortunately by the proper color codes by code or by training...and thus there will not be the mental shock of it not being the proper voltage either if something were to have blown because of that, or say some critter chewed thru insulators and has a cross creating higher or lower voltages and or short factors!!!
Also in stringed lights like the fairy lights, christmas lights etc. One strand of lights the lights are in parallel to each other, but when adding another strand you are placing another set of parallel lights in sequence to the other paralleled lights and using ohms law you will see why the amps weren't as you expected. One can possibly look at strings of lights and be tricked into thinking they are in sequence, but they are groups of parallel and why when people add too many sequences of lights together they tend to trip a breaker!!! Two or three is usually safe, any more and you usually get into hazardous areas!!!
Bree and Mom and Bryson and Dad, and Shae, and Garen and Ellie, you guys amaze me every week!! Mom, I agree 1000% with you on everything being a learning experience and things being replaceable...just so long as everyone is okay!! You guys did awesome on the concrete work and the desks!!! I'm with you Bree on just a good ole clear coat on that would grain, beautiful!! And bless Dad...them fingers and hands need a little more gentleness then they once did, or u bleed super easy!!!
And Oh My Grizzly Bears, Shae comes home in 11 days!!!!!!!!!! Do we get Garen and Ellie as well???? Woohoo!!!
I cannot say enough you guys are all awesome!!! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us!!!

    New utility building project:
I love watching your building project videos. I just noticed you mentioned making the new build the same size as the old one so you can build between them in the future. I had the idea that you could cover the space between the to buildings making a carport area with only the cost of roofing. That will give you an open and covered work area similar to the hoop barn.

Greetings from Montana! Love you guys. We home school our kids and they do a lot on their own, like you. Wanted to drop a note that, in case Bryson hadn't figured it out yet, wiring the LED strands in series instead of parallel doubles the series resistance so it halves the amp draw. If you wired them in parallel then the amp draw would double since you're doubling the available current paths.

Agreed...the internet has changed my life. When my second was a newborn, I got shingles. I had never heard of it, and the doctor didn't really explain. I went to the public library and looked it up in a medical book. Now, if I have a question on any subject. I can read about it, watch youtube videos about it, and join a facebook support group for it. I've watched your kids grow up as well as homeschool families that travel the world and others that live on different continents. It's so much more entertaining than television.

Great episode guys, love how you all work together to get things done. Wish you were putting out more content like twice a week as you are so interesting and a down to earth family. Bye for now 🇦🇺

Kitchen is looking great! We had two master electricians assist when wiring our first house. Needless to say one transposed commons on our kitchen circuits which took me 2 hours to figure out the other one left the main support bracket off a ceiling fan which I figured out while looking at spare parts. We have never had good luck with trades people so we do it ourselves.

I'm thinking it's looking good in the kitchen... of dreams. What a great family space. Speaking of which... I think Mom's and Bree are missing Shea and the reunion show should be a blast. You may have a little problem with shrinkage on the concrete patch. Don't be mad if it is a little off level with the old slab. Still, replacing that hoop barn is past due. Great video as always. Peace,

I have three table lamps on my kitchen counters for evenings when we aren’t cutting and cooking. I can see well enough to maneuver but the light is more subtle and less jarring against the black coming in from our uncovered windows. Plus it would let the fairy lights be center stage. Just a thought. 😊

So If I see a red wire on the neutral bus that may be an indication something is amiss. The range top didn't appear to mind the 240 between black and white, though. That was fortunate.
Glad you figured it out. Glad the oven repair wasn't more expensive.
