Wendy has a really well developed mid chest register. However taeyeon's technique is similar but still little different from ariana. They tend to use mid chest and upper register mix which makes hitting high notes more comfortable especially hitting f5/g5 sustained. Wendy is one of those few vocalist who can execute mid chest very well.

@@flynn795from where did you analysed it, from WhatsApp University I guess, it wasn't supported but it wasn't strained either, neither was Taeyon's F5, both of them notes were unsupported but Wendy's dynamics and pharangeal control are better suited for upper range than Taeyon, that's why Wendy's F#5 is better than Taeyon's F5 and please won't argue with me as I am vocal analyst from a very long time so i have proper knowledge of techniques.

I feel like Tae is forcing her throat. In case of Wendy, she pulls that effortlessly and sounds really soft. I would say Wendy is better. Tae has dept but that’s all.

Taeyeon sounds tensed but it feels giving emotion and darkness to it. Wendy sings the fifth octave effortlessly.

taeyeon is better in mid belts (A4-Eb5) since her mixed is chesty, she's over pushing sometimes when hitting higher notes, while wendy's mixed is balanced and she's better in upper belts (E5-G5)

I would disagree with Taeyeon supporting Eb5 consistently, cause she showed difficulty last year handling D5 during the into the new world perfomance of 2022.

Being a vocal expert myself, both notes were healthy. They just used different, but similar techniques. Taeyeon uses more of a chest voice which is why it's fuller and clearer, while Wendy uses a mix of chest and head which is why its lighter almost. If we are discussing which one is better Taeyeon's is in terms of technique, but in terms of appeal Wendy won.
Idk, lighter voice sounds like hitting high note isn’t too hard. It must be easy for Wendy.

You are a vocal expert and still said Taeyon's technique was best, i am a vocal analyst brother and what you said was clearly wrong, Taeyon's placement was good but her airflow which should be free was a little restricted and her chest coordination decays after she shifts from Db5-F5 in this note. You should know better as you said you are a vocal expert😑😑. There were many things which was not right with that note as compared to wendy which I am not gonna mention as it will humiliate you even more. It's true wendy used more of a heady mix but still it was a heavily targeted mix with balanced pressure from the diaphragm and most of it, the note placement is very healthy as compared to Taeyon, the dynamic shift was also head to head with Taeyon.
People shouldn't really sleep on W just because Tae is more popular. They are both queens, but W is a beast on her own right, and I dare say she might even par with Tae or possibly surpassed her since the release of RV's new EP.

Imo Taeyeon's approach is perfect in the context of the song. That note is supposed to be a moment in the song hence the instrumentation stops so that you focus on the note. Wendy's is more of a background adlib. Using that approach in Step Back for what is supposed to be a moment in the song just wouldn't have the same effect.
Wendy's approach is better and sounds more effortless. Even though Taeyeon has gone super light to have more ease up there she is still quite chesty. I feel like that's both a strength and a weakness for her.

100%. I think if Taeyeon even used a classical style approach to hitting this note it would've been a lot easier for her and effortless. Kinda like how opera singers approach their vowels. It would've taken a lot of that chestiness away. From what I can hear Wendy did a bit of that.
I am a huge fan of both, I’d go for Wendy. Her voice technicality, dynamic, and versatility, including pronunciation are unbelievable and the best overall. Both are best Vicals in Kpop. I’d say Taeyeon has more depth. I have playslist for both of them I kept playing single day. Having them in one album with diff genre will be the most vocaly satisfying album I’d ever spend a dime for ❤❤

tbh, Wendy’s mixed has been more balanced these days, comparing her mix before which at times mostly is on the heady mix side.
Voice color is subjective, and I get that if you choose Taeyeon.
ofc you will also choose Taeyeon if it sounds “powerful”, because Tae is chestier than Wendy(even if it’s already mix, Tae is still chesty)
but in this range, Wendy does great and actually surprises me by adding that consistent vibrato. She’s been REALLY good at Eb5-G5 these days,, especially consistently supporting Eb5 since ‘Feel My Rhythm’.

Taeyeon's belts have more power and are often more open, lacking strain while Wendy tends to build strain whenever she's belting. However, both are amazing Main Vocalists within their own respective groups and should bw praised as such.

wendy superior that taeyeon in so many levels. taeyeon sounds great too but her approach is unhealthy. her belts are pushed and sounds shoutier. wendy on the other hand makes high notes sound so easy, her technique queen status is so apparent. her vocal placement is healthy and just developed in all areas. her low notes are also to die for. her resonance and support is so good
