  • A tour of my Cirrus SR22 cockpit at 8,000 feet flying from Sydney to Melbourne. What do all the screens do? What are the buttons for? What do each of the switches do? Take a tour of the cockpit and watch how I fly this fantastic aircraft.
    I fly a Cirrus Aircraft SR22 single-engine plane registration VH-EYZ. It's a 310 HP cruising machine which I often fly the 391 nautical mile trip from Melbourne to Sydney (and back). Ride along, hear air traffic control radio calls, and watch as I walk you through each of the main parts of the cockpit of this aeroplane.

    I’ve always loved the SR22 in every aspect, including the cockpit layout... This may be an unusual opinion but I really enjoy videos when pilots film their systems and instruments, I find it quite fascinating to see how advanced technology is nowadays!

    You’re my Favorite TH-camr! Not just a TH-camr, but a roll model in a topic I am passionate about (Aviation). I can’t wait to get my Aviation merit badge in Scouts. I play google earth pro on my school computer lol! My sister sometimes lets me play Microsoft flight sim but I can’t wait to be able to fly. Flight is something I’m just so compassionate about. Sorry for rambling on.

      It's an older plane. These are old Avadyne panels. Today Cirrus has the Garmin NXi main panels and the GFC700 AFCS. 3d Audio. ADS-B in/out. XM and Sat phones. Nexrad or XM weather. The nav functions are inside the MFD, not a separate panely anymore. Perspective FMS is the center of the system now.

    I know you pointed out the switches and just said what they did without showing which was which, but what do they do from left to right? Poor banana, murderer! LOL. Oh, it might be worth pointing out how the throttle and mixture controls work on a small plane, we are used to seeing them being moved on big jets, but for budding pilots it might be worth doing. It might be worth doing a basics video when you have the time, how all the controls work for those that want to know and budding young pilots. Keep the videos coming. Great video, Stefan! Hey, I'm curious how you attached the camera mount in the spot that has the overhead light. I've been using a GoPro mount that I glued to the light lens-not the most stable solution. Your kit looks much more solid.

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We took out the light fitting and mounted a metal NFlightCam mount to the roof. It's been approved by CASA and we have an Engineering Order on the aircraft for it. The actual holder is a Puluz aluminium GoPro case. Very solid.

      @@StefanDrury Thanks for the detailed info, mate! Was there an available machine screw to mount the Surface Spud Mount or are you using the suction cup mount? Or, perhaps you made a hole in the roof for this-hence the Engineering Order!

    hello Stefan! I actually asked this in the previous video when you were talking about disliking turbulence and what that could imply in a future aviation career, it made me a bit scared as I would love to be a pilot (the only job I find to be "not a job" if that makes sense? Although I'm still not sure if that's what I wanna do, but I don't like anything else haha) but strongly dislike turbulence! On a "serious" level, because whenever I'm flying commercially and hit turbulence I always get a little anxious and afraid we might get into severe turbulence, and the problem is that I fear I might never get used to it and this problem will prevent me from possibly becoming an airline pilot...

      Arron Metcalf It all helps, rudder pedals, joystick/yoke, a half decent flight sim as opposed to shoot em up games (although they can have their uses). Especially helpful if one can download training aircraft, Eg Cessna 150/152, Cherokee (PA28), even C42 Ikarus or EV97 Eurostars, gives budding students a head start, despite what old cynics might say/think.

    Really interesting video Stef, might sound a silly question, but who, and how are way points named?

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not silly, it's a good question. I believe in Australia it's Airservices Australia who name them (happy to be corrected on that). RNAV waypoints are named based on their location in relation to and airport to which they're associated (eg: Moorabbin Sierra Alpha - MMBSA - the 'Sierra' relating to 'South' and alpha being the first waypoint to the South). But as for en route waypoints I'm not sure. I'd love to get a MILKY for Milkshake somewhere in Australia. I know there's a DRURY in New Zealand!

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All depends on the approach. RNAVs are pretty simple, ILS obviously you switch to VLOC from GPS but not much else to it. I load an approach generally well before I need it, before briefing myself on it, and activate when I’m cleared to it.
