I come back to these older videos now and then and find that each time I understand them a little better. I've started practicing more the side to side should motion and it's made a pretty noticeable difference in my hip weight transfer. Other people in my skating club have noticed a difference in my speed too since I started to get the hang of it :)
Thanks so much for this very helpful video. I have been thinking a lot about this while skating in recent days. I find an early swing across of my shoulders in a relatively flat plane is helping initiate and load my lead change skate for the underpush and getting better outside edge with longer glide. I find it is important for me not to dip the outside shoulder too much as I collapse or twist a bit in my position on the new lead skate leg (I'm a runner mostly so I'm perhaps not skate-strong in my basic position). Sometimes it feels I need to try exaggerating the movements to understand their purpose! I'm loving these videos. There is no-one speed skating where I live (well I'm working on getting my daughter rolling fast!) so this is just brilliant!
Almost a year since I first watched this video and I've finally got the hang of it! Before I didn't quite understand that the purpose of the side to side shoulder motion is to slow down your stride and lengthen the time you spend on each foot to really take advantage of the long push of the big wheels and using your body weight. My skating feels much more efficient now ^_^
Thanks. Great tip. I especially like your comment to dip shoulder. I have also found to try keep shoulder compressed and hold alittle longer on the outer push so that I can uncoil or get extra spring when pushing down and out.
Hello Pascal, again a video from you opened my eyes. I always tried to avoid to twist the shoulders down to support the outside edge. In some tutorials it says" you have to be parallel to the ground with the hip and the shoulders". And I think that is the reason that my upper body is twisting too much to the left and to the right. But by dropping the shoulder down it will help to stabilize the upper body and to support the movements and the body weight transfer. I've seen your video often times but just yet it made click😂. Thank you for your videos 😊.greetings from Germany
I find that by using my shoulders as described in this video, i'm able to put more weight on my skates and therefore execute the outside "edge" push with more power.
Encore merci.
Hi sir I am Navjeet Harveen kaur father my daughter was ur student at this summer's pune camp it was a grt experience at the camp for her and myself I just want to ask if we swing ur arms while skating fast the same side way movement we get as in the case while we skate keeping the hands lock in the back?
pascal briand yes we can go fast but the point is with the swing of the arms the shoulders and head position should move frm you left to right the same way as we do while skating keeping the hands lock?? . Thank u very much for responding to my query 😊

you can go faster when you swing arms but not for long...
i like to skate a lot hand in the back as it s good to learn stability in the hip

Sir
Is this useful for track with 110 wheels, (that hip movement with glide)
Dekhane Sandip yes you can do it also on 110mm and on track
You teach it to us in the champ
oh... thank you
❤️❤️🤲
Awesome. Great advice. Will try it.:-).
