But to be fair, at the very beginning, if you got the wrong two legos, you could basically delete your character and try again. It took me five legos to get a good one (and it was even the holy priest cloak), but I only stuck with it because I wasn't too active at the beginning and could wait for them to fix it.
So yeah, Legion also had the worst character progression system to ever be implemented into the game. And that wasn't even paragon levels.

Legion was the first time I ever got into raiding. I played briefly back in the twilight days of Vanilla and BC, however, this was the first time I dedicated the time to improve as a player. It was an expansion of firsts, where I got to learn how to survive in harder content (Nothing crazy like Mythic, but for a newbie like me, Heroic was an entirely new world for me). I learned how to play my mage effectively and then later, fell in love with Rogues and Feral Druid.
Feral druid was my first and hardest mage tower (as I was still very much a noob at feral at the time) and I distinctly remember air punching as I got that artifact skin before the buffs to Feral druid dropped. I still have that screenshot saved, at approximated 11:24pm August 24 2017. That will be and likely always will be one of my most favorite memories from Legion, as I had something to prove to myself back then.
Legion was amazing for me, and I made quite a few friends that I still keep in touch with to this day, despite not playing WoW anymore at this time.

Its surprising how a couple of core game systems can bring the entire experience down. You can have hundreds of artists and animators, world designers, etc., but if the core systems, which I imagine are maintained and created by a handful of people, are bad, then it renders everything else bad. Its like a rock in your shoe that you can't get out. You could be in the best place on earth, enjoying time on the beach, having a drink, etc., but that rock in your shoe will just ruin everything if you don't get it out.

World of Warcraft: Legion was the first, and as of Battle for Azeroth, is still the only, WoW expansion that I did not play on release. In fact, I had genuinely mentally and emotionally left the game for the first time since I started playing WoW in October 2006. I had stopped playing soon after Patch 6.1, and didn't even look into Legion at all when it was announced.
To answer Preach's question, *near the end of Patch 7.2, I still had not returned to the game!*
It wasn't until November 2017, several months after Patch 7.3 had released, that I looked into World of Warcraft again. It was entirely the lore and story that piqued my interest, and wanting to see the lore of the Third Invasion and of all the artifact weapons was only the reason why I subscribed again for the first time in two years.
Legion did not disappoint, and while The Burning Crusade will always be my _favorite_ expansion, I believe that Legion was Blizzard's _best_ expansion. Everything came together for Legion in a way that makes me feel that another invasion of the Burning Legion, this time portrayed in World of Warcraft, is the scenario this game always needed, and it's what inspired the development team to create that masterpiece of an expansion.
I'd hoped the magic would continue with Battle for Azeroth, but instead this expansion is a severely stripped-down version of Legion. It's lacking not only in good lore, stories and content, but it's also missing that spark of inspiration that I could feel so strongly during Legion. It's as if their well of creativity was depleted for this expansion. Maybe Zandalar & Kul'Tiras, and the Fourth War, didn't end up being as cool as they'd hoped they would be when the subject of this expansion was initially decided.
Once again, I have drifted away from World of Warcraft. I played BfA on launch for a month or two, was gifted a six-month subscription, and ended up playing only a few days-worth during that entire half-year period. In 2019, I returned for Patch 8.2, and played two months. After not playing a couple of months, I spent gold on a WoW token in November to experience the 15th anniversary events. I only played a couple of weeks of that time.
I have now been unsubscribed for a month, and have no plans to return to World of Warcraft. I haven't played the game with friends or even a guild in years, and the only person I know currently playing the game is playing Classic, which I have no interest in. I am not inspired by either the setting of the Shadowlands or what we know of it's gameplay so far, so I am not excited about that, either. I hope and expect to enter the real-world Shadowlands before that expansion is released, so it's irrelevant, anyways.
Since it's likely that nobody will ever see, much less read, this comment, all the time i took to share my thoughts and experiences is also irrelevant. TH-camrs only implore us to leave comments because it rises the rankings of their videos. Most comments will never be seen by a human being. For high-traffic videos, there's a tiny window where if someone sorts by "newest first," then they might see your comment. If not, it goes into the hundreds or thousands of messages that require so much scrolling, there's no chance it will ever be seen. TH-cam's comment sections are not conducive to getting your messages seen, though since this video is a few days old, it has a higher chance of being seen by someone sorting "newest first."
Now, I copy and paste my standard footer for comments I make to big, high-traffic videos:
(The current design for TH-cam's comment system is absolutely terrible, so I doubt anyone will even see this message, and it will get lost in the vast void in between "Top Comments" and "Newest First".)

BFA however.... initially it was okay, bit bonkers with the gearing of course, but storywise it was okay, but having to regrind the same things over and over again just made the thing unplayable for me.

    • @kelly89420
      @kelly89420 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I'm not so sure this Team A/Team B theory is correct tbh. Surely if Team B was that bad they would have all been sacked and replaced at the end of WoD.
To me it feels like the dev team might be too small for a game of this scope, and that wouldn't be surprising either as the player numbers have dwindled and the money has started drying up it makes sense they would cut staff numbers to compensate.
The reason I think this is because it seems like they are too focussed on making lazy throw away content that requires very little maintenance once it's out because they don't have the numbers to fully support one expansion while creating the next at the same time. Garrisons, Island Expeditions (who the fuck came up with this?), even Mythic Plus. Who wants to run the same 10 dungeons for 2+ years, same bosses, same gear, with the only difference being that once every few months the ilvl goes up a bit and we get a new +10 affix, boooooooring.
I just hope that something good comes from them sacking 800 support staff, like using that money to bolster the dev teams so we can get some good, regular content instead of using that money to pay huge bonuses to Activision and Blizzard management.

MoP was such an underappreciated expac because too many people got hung up on the "ew pandas" bullshit. Speaking as a mainly PvPer, class design was actually at its best in early Cata because it fixed the gaping holes left from Wrath's god awful class designs (but people forget that because of Dragon Soul bringing down the rest of the expac) and MoP also brought in great class design as well as fixing the PvE to PvP gear issues from Cata.

For me 7.2 was pretty much peak WoW for me, which is really strange because ive been chasing that TBC-WotLK "high" for so long and never could recapture it....until 7.2. That was the first time that I truly fell in love with the game in YEARS.... and sadly, it faded with 7.3 and onwards.
So why was this so? Well, I joined a pretty hardcore raiding guild for the first time in a long ass time. This wasn't just any guild, this was an old and proud guild on my server that I had looked up to from when I first started playing. I would walk around IF as a noob and see all these crazy geared people and they were in this guild. These guys got all the server firsts in TBC and many in WotLK, and then faded after that... being reborn briefly in many expansions over the years but never sticking around too long. Anyway, they were recruiting again in Legion and I joined as a healer. I quickly ascended to the top of their ranks. By mid ToS I was the top rated holy paladin on my server!
For the first time since WotLK I made tons of new friends. I loved this raiding team so much. I immensely enjoyed Tomb of Sargeras as well, probably my favorite raid of all time. I think this is in large part due to the whole raiding guild experience though, rather than the raid itself. Still loved the raid regardless... with all the soaking going on, there was so much raid damage to heal thru and I found it so fun.
Near the end of 7.2 I had to quit WoW for a while. When I came back at the end of 8.3 the guild had died again due to some drama with the old leader not wanting to relinquish control and we couldn't recruit enough people or something. Even though the guild is dead again, its still my dream guild and I will spend the rest of my WoW life here. Maybe.
TLDR: joined my dream guild, and an actual raid team for the first time in years. Made new friends for the first time in years. Loved the patch's raid content on top of that. Makes me wonder how much more I would have enjoyed WoW over the years had I joined a real raid team in other expansions.

My memories of Legion aren't so rosy. The early artifact power and legendary grinds wore me down and made me drop out of Mythic raiding partway through Trial of Valor. I didn't actually get one of my class's good legendaries until after 7.2 while other people playing my class had them in the first raid. By the time all these issues were fixed and Legion was actually good, half my friends had abandoned the game already.
And when BfA launched and all those same early Legion issues started showing up, I bailed on the entire game fast, and only popped back in once to see if maybe, like Legion, they'd fixed some of it down the line. They hadn't.

  • @whiskeyjack02

This time during 7.2 I was pretty much done with preparations for Argus on my main and was working on getting legendaries for the few alts I enjoyed, which made them even more fun to play. Fire mage, shadow priest, havoc dh, and both unholy and frost dk. I had a blast alt raiding with these characters, not because the raid was good (in fact ToS was pretty garbage), simply because the specs themselves were so. fucking. good.
Ultimately that's what I miss about Legion the most, having good classes to play. Almost all of them feel like empty shells now.

*sits in a rocking chair, watching over the neighbourhood*
Oh, 7.2... those were the days. Logging in, doing emissaries, building all the stuff on the Broken Shore; gathering herbs, mining, brewing potts and flasks, crafting legendaries by my own hands, doing all the damn fishing and the list goes on for fucking ever. I watched a ton of your videos, alongside with Nobbels and Nixxioms content. I tried to teach my rp'ing friends on how to raid Nighthold Normal (it was futile in the end), I was working on multiple Balance-of-Power-questlines (and unlocked the skin for the Scythe of Elune), I did Nighthold Heroic regularly on my main mage, I obtained the "Dreamer"-title on my druid; I watched the baby-moonkins dance in the Druid Order Hall... I played so many characters because I wanted to get my hands on every single class mount. I had fun playing M+, I tried the Mage Tower (and yes I sucked monkeynuts on that one), hell I even played a bit of arena.
But now, *sighs*, my sub has ended a few months ago. In the summer of 2019, I gave in and payed for a month, to see what it's all about. I leveled my DK to 120, I tried my hand on Darkshore (which was what lured me back into the game), I did a few Mythics and... that's all. I could not even bring myself to play a Horde-toon. I haven't unlocked flying or even World-Quests. I was rather doing Legion-content (or even WoD one) than playing the actual AddOn.
Something has died inside of me when Legion ended. I do not know what it was, as I was so hype for BfA! Finally, a proper faction conflict again! What will happen to Lordaeron? What will happen to Jaina returning home? Oh boi, oh boi, oh boi! But... I could not bring myself to it at the end of Legion. I want to love it, I want to embrace BfA, I really, really do. But I can't. *a single tear rolls down the cheek*
I am back to SWTOR again, the MMO that will hopefully give me my happily-ever-after.

This time last xpac, I remember I had just started a new job, and the consequence was that couldn't commit to the raid times of the guild that I was in. It really sucked since Antorus was a great raid. But tbh 7.2. at first wasn't that awesome, remember getting 1 quest per week from Khadgar? and that went of for what 11? weeks before we got to the actual raid?. CoEN wasn't that amazing either. Think we got concordance in that patch, and so did the forever ap grind begin. We got class mounts and assaults, those were nice little things to do and to level up your alts. And yeah ofc we got the mage tower, that turned around to be really good content, but personally I cba'd doing those in the beginning. I rather took the easy way and did those with Antorus gear.
But overall I really liked Legion, never before had I been subbed for a full expansion, but Legion managed to do that. Even times when i didn't raid, farming old content for mounts, mogs etc... was fun because of speed sets and bear tartare.

    • @Atropabelopa
      @Atropabelopa 4 ปีที่แล้ว

yeah I found this video oddly off. I mean everyone has there own experiences. Legion was a fantastic Expansion no questions but specifically the patch 7.2 was honestly crap. Mage Tower at launch felt largely inaccessible to most. The Broken Isles was insanely underwhelming in content. The trickling of "story" was an embarrassing joke especially after Suramar. Cathedral was way overtuned and no one literally no one wanted to play it. ToS I'd argue was a shit Raid with serious tuning issues. Mistress killed a lot of mid tier Mythic guilds. And do I need to even mention the massive overtuning of KJ? Even top world first guilds complained it was way overtuned and not fun.
Honestly when 7.2 came out most just fell back on farming alts because most of the new stuff was either incredibly boring or way overtuned hard. Tuning was a complete mess. They fixed it and down the line people loved things like Mage Tower etc but during the actual patch it was pretty shit.

I levelled every class to max during WoD because there was simply nothing else to do, plus having 11 garrisons was crazy easy money for dozens of free WoW tokens, everyone was doing it and destroying the economy so I joined the doomsday party too, learned everything about the different classes and even levelled my first alliance character. Legion was incredible and I only played 3 characters because there was so much to do, world quests seemed fresh, random legendaries were exciting and people were out in the world again like an MMO should thank god, the Demon Hunter was awesome and jumping straight into Legion avoiding all the boring old content with a fresh character felt so good, artifact weapons quests and lore incredible, class halls so awesome and alive with players, you actually got a feeling of roleplaying similar to Classic, even if most of it was cosmetic and just a tip of the hat to the old lore. I didn't even play BfA and never will, people were telling doom and gloom about it in the beta before it even released, you could tell it was going to be a failure if they didn't even get the start of the expansion right, the collectors edition was digital garbage with a price hike (no physical soundtrack/behind the scenes disks). Will likely play through it when it's free with Shadowlands but for now I enjoy Classic because it feels like a game and not a cynical Skinner box.

So from someone who actually quit in WoD, it seems like they're hitting every other year ever since Cata. Cata=baddish with a couple of upswings, Mop=good despite people's complaining early(and my golden time), WoD=lowest of the low IMHO, Legion=wonderful or so I've heard, and BfA=frustrating to play. Maybe that means the next expac will be good. Maybe not.
I've courted the idea of returning here and there, but I really don't think I'll get my aforementioned golden time back. MoP is gone, along with the nights spent laughing like hyenas on Skype, raiding multiple characters and loving the play style, and even the half-assed attempts to roleplay that never quite went off the ground. It's gone. Just memories now.

Pandaria was a pretty great expac fro PvPers at least. I didn't raid then so I don't know about that, but overall the class design was well done and they fixed the issue Cata had with PvE gear dominating PvP. Being a PvPer in MoP was a time to be alive.

Which expac? Cata or MoP? In Cata, since Dragon Soul took up over half the expac's run time you're not wrong that rogues and mages were OP, however that had a LOT to do with the PvE gear screwing everything up. It wasn't even the legendary staff or daggers that were the issue as much as it was the trinkets from Dragon Soul being completely broken. As well as some classes having broken PvE tier 2 sets that were mandatory for them in PvP like MM hunters.
That's why I pointed at early Cata, mostly meaning the first season as being possibly the BEST arena season to have ever existed. Season 9 was before Firelands and Dragon Soul so there wasn't any broken PvE gear to screw it all up. Were some classes still broken? Yea of course. I was a rogue main and even I can admit that Recoup was beyond broken with its over healing and energy regen but it didn't matter because overall people were having fun and almost every class and spec were viable for high ranked arena.

Class design was still full of depth and ToT was pretty good. It wasn’t necessarily my favorite patch thematically, but it just got the job done so well. My only grip moving forward in the expansions has been the devaluation of gear across content. It’s not boring to run Black Temple for loot during Sunwell-It gives you loot that is meaningful across the entire expansion. WoW needs meaningful professions and BiS lists again, end of story.

Raiding was fun, for me Antorus was brilliant, as I was getting into main tanking and actually having a goal to get Mage Tower done on all tanking classes. I got 3/6 done (warrior, druid and demon hunter) because sadly the other three classes weren't at max level, and still isn't in BfA. I recognized at the end of Legion how good of an expansion it really was, and that it would be missed by many.
Even though legendary drops was shite at some points, the uniqueness of playstyles they implemented was magnificent. Artifact weapons was shite at the beginning with all the AP grind, but so many perks who just made your playstyle better in some way or another. Small tweaks of mechanics or spells just made you feel better as you leveled up. With BfA, with AP all I see now is iLvl.

In addition to what you already mentioned and which is most likely true to many of us, i would like to add what this meant for my guild. We are raiding mythic, and once the content is over we continue raiding mythic with our alts. Not because we need them to splitfarm, but because its fun. People were having fun playing their alts, its a whole class campaign, its a massive bunch of things to work for (like mage tower and artifact appearances), its a big storyline where you would only see the complete picture if you played all of the order hall questlines. So we had three diffrent alt raids, we were hanging together almost every single evening doing something together.
This time? People are tired of the grinding. They dont play their alts, because its a pain to farm the essences. They are not motivated to play the boring war campaign over and over again. Now, we meet once a week for the main farm raid, and some another date for a sellraid, thats it. And it makes me very sad. I completely understand that social issues are most of the time player generated, but who could blame someone to stay away and play other games when the one game which brings all of us together is just not fun?

While the Mage Tower is the second best system (for me) that they've added to the game, it really was the only thing that carried 7.2 for me. Tomb of Sargeras was awful, the Broken Shore as a zone was boring thanks to the frustration of nethershards and how buildings were constructed, and the class mount stories were short and uninteresting. 8.2 isn't really any better and the essence system absolutely suuuucks for alts, but I certainly don't think it's "7.2 was great". No, Mage Tower was great. Mage Tower was phenomenal. 7.2 was bad, 8.2 is bad.
In 7.2 I was pretty much just running mythic+. In 8.2, I'm also pretty much just running M+, but this time it's only on one character rather than 2-3 alts too. Some of that is because of the essence system, some of it is because classes just feel worse in BFA than they do in Legion.

So, what was I doing in 7.2? Not really playing. Legion was the better-made expansion, for sure, but I can't really say I enjoyed the expansion all that much, by and large. To me, Legion was such a knee-jerk reaction to the disaster that was WOD, that the first reveal of it made me think of it as, "Fanservice: the Expansion." The core design philosophies that people hate in BFA got their start in Legion--it was just masked with better storytelling, throwing in a bunch of heavy-hitting lore characters, and a timely patch cycle. Without those bells and whistles, as was the case in BFA, the core design of the game falls apart, because the core design of the Legion-style game _isn't about fun_ to Blizzard; it's about "player engagement," and that is precisely how we end up with an expansion like BFA--they prioritized, "Does this sell?" over, "Is this product actually good?"
Also, kudos for Crypt of the Necrodancer OST. Danny B is bae.

Patch 7.2: I had a guild, was progressing, enjoying the game as a whole for the first time in forever. Our guild wasn't the best, but we worked our butts off and every bit of progress felt important.
Then I took a break as I usually do towards the end of an expansion to refresh for new content.
Patch 8.2: My guild had disbanded while I was gone because most of them had grown bored of the game. The people left had reformed on different realms, and I didn't have the money to join them. I went from core friends I had been with since WOTLK, great times in raiding, great chats and even better memories, to being utterly alone and having no one to play with. I'm typically not a depressive person, but it hit me hard how much the social aspect of WoW was important for me. Even if I was just rep grinding, I had a group of people to talk to or quest with as an option. And the content wasn't fun enough to keep me invested on my own. In this whole huge world with everyone playing around me I felt isolated. Sounds corny I know. So I haven't played, and don't foresee re-subbing in the future.
Makes me sad just thinking about it.
Like, when you have that synergy with a game, and the people playing, there's nothing else like it.
    But, all good things....right?

BfA bad, Legion mediocre. People were complaining about apexis crystals in WoD, but artifact power was even worse, as it was a constant mandatory grind. Raids were overall very mediocre in Legion. The legendary grind was bad. Class design was ok. Broken shore and Argus felt less exciting than Tanaan Jungle (except the mage tower). Pathfinder still existed. Every week you had to do a 10+ mythic dungeon for random loot. Maybe it's just me, but I was disappointed in Legion. I had a moderate amount of fun with WoD and a moderate amount of fun with Legion. Nowhere near as much though as with MoP or other previous expansions though.

Back in 7.2 I was already starting to get a couple of mage tower skins on my alts, I basically dropped ToS on the mid of progression due to insane burnout on certain bosses and the team I was raiding wasnt very... amazing at dealing with some of the mechanics on heroic.
I ended up taking most of 7.2 and 7.2.5 doing MT on all my alts it was at 8.3 when I finally decided to go for the last skins I was missing for 36/36 (healing challenge except for Hpaladin I had some knowledge on the class back then and had a good chunk of legendaries and AP I could work with) ended up 33/36 pre 8.3 it might not mean much for anyone else but for me means alot.. antorus was huge for me, so it was legion maybe if I had another raid team I could have enjoyed ToS alot more for sure but the mage tower was just everything I needed back then.

Legion did have its problems, but overall it was a grand expansion.
The raiding in Legion was absolutely amazing, and the lore behind every single boss made it so much better. I also loved Mythic + because it felt fun. In BfA, although its still kinda fun, they designed Mythic + for esports instead of for fun.
People are going to say that they disliked the Artifacts because "everyone had an ashbringer" etc etc, but it felt awesome having one of the highest ilvl artifact weapons because of relics.
idk dude, Legion just brought so much to the game and even through all the problems, Legion brought so many players back (including my brother, he hated WoW).
Shadowlands is looking good on paper, lets just hope they execute it right.

I was lucky enough to play with you in the classic beta, helped gear your warrior up in SM on my shaman JehovaNova(doubt you remember) through multiple runs. I still have a clip from the stream where you called me legendary for cc/interrupts/always having the right totems down. This was a personal highlight for me in my years playing this game,as a 1 arm gamer I tend to ignore mythic raiding not b/c of the difficulty, but b/c of the time commitment and personalities involved in that scene.
In 7.2 I was living high on the hog even in my average heroic raiding guild, I mained a Warrior (Sistaray on Hyjal) and played multiple alts all the while kicking rest of the melee dps asses using a 20 button mouse and 4 button footboard. When 8.2 hit I had to play catch up but the content just wasn't enough to keep me subbed, partly it's my fault for switching sides for first time ever and leveling a boosted warrior on a medium server, but I just never enjoyed BFA as a primarily melee/tank character. The fact that MicrotransActivision-Blizzard bent the knee for Winnie fookin Pooh was the last straw, I haven't even played retail classic. Despite building a new monster Ryzen rig I have moved on to much more enjoyable games like Red Dead Online,Hitman 2, and Hunt Showdown. For the first time in over 15 years I built a new pc and WoW was not the first game I tested, dunno if I'll ever come back.
Really hope you'll follow TB and step back from this steaming pile of design by committee dogsh*t and cover as many games as you can. I've been a huge fan for years and think we need your voice now more than ever! Hope ya have a Happy New Year and I'll try and catch your variety streams as often as I can. Players in legion: "Legendaries are great but the acquisition method is bad."
This is an issue that could be solved very easily and make a great systems for the following expac, however...
Blizzard logic: "This system (legendaries) has small problems. Therefore we need to COMPLETELY scrap it and make a whole new system which will require A LOT of resources and be very risky."

I don't even remember playing my main when Tomb of Sargeras was actual, because i was burnt out on farming AP/WQ's for chain quests/Flying.
I remember leveling a warlock, just because you did the "Fresh account" series. And i enjoyed it very much.
However, the most telling thing for me is that during 7.2, i leveled up all the classes. That happened because i had an incentive to play at max level.
Class order halls were, to me at least, by far the best thing that i encountered in wow.
Later on, i managed to actually play 80% of them because AK became account wide and the only farm was item farm, which was quite easy with Veiled Argunite.(had around 915-920 on all chars, apart from select few like Hunter, Warlock and Demon Hunter which were closer to 940)
After leveling, i came back to WoW 4 months before 8.0 launched, changed my main to a Shadow Priest(from Resto Druid) and had one hell of a time.
That is until the prepatch came and all went to shit...
For what regards BFA, i've played it for 3 months after launch, only because i had a guild and we were doing some progression.
Couldn't play Shadow Priest, so was forced to go Holy which i didn't enjoy because i did not want to play Healer again for the whole expansion.
Didn't want to change my class. Ergo, i stopped playing after 3-4 Uldir runs.
Had a 1 year pause, found some friends to play with, changed realms and been playing on/off for the past 4 months.
I don't have the same enjoyment to play the game as i had in Legion.
That being said, i haven't done any normal raids. Only LFR and i didn't even played it that much to get the essence from Queen Azshara.
I don't have the same incentive to level alts, since there is not much to do after max level but get more gear and see how the class fleshes out.
That would be enough if the gameplay was nice for 80% of the classes. But since that isn't the case, i only have 2 alts this time around.
I've cancelled and renewed my subscription 3 times these past 4 months =))), just because i get angry at the game being so bad.
All in all, Legion was better from my point of view. I can't see 8.3 being on the same level as 7.3 was for me.
    I played alot during 7.3 and 7.3.5.
The only thing that sparks any interest for me in 8.3 are the Horrific Visions. That is it. If that fails to keep me interested, then i assume i won't play until 9.0 releases.
And this time around, i think i'll wait to see exactly how 9.0 is at the beginning. Because i don't want the same experience as 8.0...

if Blizzard didn't wait entire expansions to fix fundamental problems with classes, Bfa could have been salvaged. Instead of taking something like azerite armor, and using it to give us the option to change the way we play our specs, it was used as a balancing tool. Removing core abilities, artifact weapons, and legendaries with nothing substantial in return was a huge mistake.

I saw the first feral on our server get his 7.2 orange kitty from mage tower and was salivating and then decided i wanted to mythic raid, but also become a BETTER player! Also, multi-classing was so easy and felt really fun with the different weapons and how specs felt fun and building the tree in your weapon! I loved the cool little things each class had, one small example was sub rogue in their weapon tree having a skill so you take no fall damage! I was having a great time in raid, getting better and having a blast on alts because there was a reason to level them and be excited to play with them at max level.

Yeah, same for me. In Legion, the mage tower kept me going back to alts, mainly because of the transmog and mounts. In order to get them, I learned to play with other specs and classes and it was awesome. I still raided back then and got my first CE achiev.
Now in BFA, I don't raid because I don't have time anymore. I just log in, do my weekly chest and log out.
8.3 will be the same for me as I won't raid again anytime soon.

Legion was so much better for me personally because of the diversity of the classes. Because of the individual stories for each class and even spec, I was so motivated to level every single class to see the different stories. Then the class mounts came out and the stories continued!
This gave so much to do and contributed to the majority of my play time. In BFA I’m not really motivated to play anything else besides my main, and even then it’s not exciting.

In Patch 7.2, I was in a raiding guild, grinding nethershards for when the Mage Tower came up, getting my Havoc DH's artifact appearance back in May, 2017, before the Broken Shore's raid opened up. Today, that guild is gone, Im back as a DK main now, with less time to play and not enough to do in WoW right now. What a great expansion Legion was and I have fond memories of it. But I hope Shadowlands does something to recapture my love for the game.

  • @Sol-mr1lv
    @Sol-mr1lv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't know.
The Broken Shore was a massive piece of flaming ****.
Other than the Mage Tower and class campaign, it didn't offer anything worthwhile.
It had a new zone, but content was there in that zone?
Some bad world quests? Bad world bosses?
Just a very short questline to get you familiar with the boring mechanics of the Broken Shore.
That doesn't take away from the Mage Tower or the class campaigns which were amazing, but it certainly doesn't help. Mage Tower was difficult and a one-time thing for each alt you were willing to train. Similar with the class campaign, you had to level several alts to see them all.
    It just doesn't save it.

7.2 was amazing for me, I didn't even have all classes at max lvl so I was lvling some, gearing others, doing story lines for the mount and for the artifact skins and the mage tower ofc and on top of that I was preparing for ToS and still raiding NH if I remember correctly and I just joined a top 100 guild so I had been playing prty much whole day. By the end of Legion I got every artifact skin in the game (not every tint but those I can still get), all the class mounts and lots of fun out of the expansion even tho I had to take a break when Antorus came out. Legion, by far is my favorite expansion, tho I don't have that many expansions to compare them to since I'm relatively new to WoW (started at the end of WoD, played WotLK and Cata on private servers). In BFA... I've been playing on and off, trying to get back into raiding, stopped for multiple reasons but one of the main reasons is that the game just isn't fun outside the raids and m+ and even in the instanced content most classes are boring to play so even that content is kinda ruined for me. I bought a month of game time 2 weeks ago, did few m+, few world quests, got bored, there's just not much enjoyable content in the game and the content that you want to do is locked behind the content that you really don't want to do which makes me not want to play at all and that's a very sad state to be in. I want to play WoW but dammit is it hard to find a reason to play it atm....

The mage tower was probably my favorite piece of content from Legion out of a lot of things that I liked about Legion. I mained a blood DK for a heroic raiding guild. I remember thinking before the mage tower had released, but hearing that it would be challenging, that I would definitely dominate my way through it, after all, I was a pretty well geared Blood DK and I felt pretty indestructible with all the self healing at my disposal... oh how wrong I was O.O It took me about 2 months of countless attempts (probably 200 - 300 in the end) I remember seeing Mythic geared/skilled DKs getting their appearance and being in awe of them, sending them whispers for tips, ever so slowly progressing further and further through the fight. I remember my hands sweating, shaking and my hearth pounding in my chest when I felt like I had a chance to kill kruul, getting so close. The nervous jitters made me play sloppy, I couldn't focus when it came down to the wire. I finally did beat it and the was the high point of my entire WoW career. A massive challenge completed that only I was responsible for for completing. There was no being carried by other raiders or guildies. I remember the exact date actually. May 20th, 2017, a personal holiday for me. By the end of the expansion I am happy to say that I did the Mage Tower on every single class and spec in the game, granted, they were far easier by that time and I think the Tank challenge was easily the most difficult of all the challenges. 2nd most difficult the healing one.

I started playing WoW in 7.2. I met an awesome guild in 7.2 who helped me learn the game and showed me how great this game can be, my Paladins stats were all over the place because I didn't understand how the stat system worked properly, but despite that I was still doing M+10's weekly at least. I was over the moon, it was so much fun, and as the expansion went on I made so many fond memories of the game.
By 8.2 my guild has transferred to a PvP Realm, which is something I don't enjoy so I barely log on. I need to check every piece of gear I get by using addons to see whether or not it's a viable upgrade, which makes it feel like everyone has the same character, and because I barely play anymore, whenever I jump into the game and try and do a Mythic+ someone whines at me that my Raider IO score isn't high enough and I don't get into any groups... This patch is horrible. I loved Legion, and I love Classic. I really hope 8.3 brings some life back to it for me. WoW was my favorite game for the year or so I had it, here's to hoping Shadowlands is great!

  • @askaflamininja
    @askaflamininja 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, you asked for a story.
    I agree 1000%. 7.2 was amazing.
I played WoW since the launch of TBC in 2006. I bought Vanilla WoW on a friday, and had to go back to the store the monday after that weekend to buy the expansion because I was already addicted to alts and needed to be able to play a Dranei and a Belf as well. Alt-itis set in real early with me.
I played semi-regularly throughout the expansions, took a break during TBC because Halo 3 came out in 2007. Hadn't maxed out a character yet. I left my Tauren Druid and Night Elf Hunter at 45 each and came back to them in Wrath. In Wrath I hit lvl 80 with my Druid who would be my solid main for the rest of my WoW career. Did my first raid, the remade Naxx, but never killed Arthas during Wrath. (Again, probably because of Halo). On and off in Cata, I was the friend that managed to get people back into the game after they all immediately unsubbed upon seeing the coming Kung Fu Pandas. I convinced them all the story was actually good in Pandaria, turns out it was all tied to the titans and old gods and shit. Also I personally thought the new talent system was the dogs bollocks.
    Let's not talk about WoD.
Anyway I came back for Legion, a friend of mine convinced me it would be better than WoD, and it was. Legion is actually probably my personal favourite expansion, but I totally understand why long time hardcore players hated it. The Legendary system did my head in, so I can see why Titanforging would have really made hardcore raiders rage.
For me, however, the sheer amount of content; by way of the class stories, mythic +, the mage towers, karazhan, the weapon skins, as well as all the classic content that had been in the game over the years was enough to push me through despite hating how legendaries worked.
And when it came to those mage towers, I fell in love with them.
I managed to get my Resto Druid and Fire mage - my main alt at the time - during 7.2. It was right at the back end for my mage, but I got them. Then as 7.2.5 and 7.3 unfolded my other toons became more geared and I ended up with 15 of the skins by the end of the expansion.
The difference in difficulties between classes and specs was... interesting. I got my Elemental Shaman on my first try and only really had passing familiarity with that spec during legion, whereas my Prot Warrior - who was probably 3rd in line in my main succession at the time - took me at east 700 attempts. I know that because when I started trying that one I had at least 75000 of the purple shards you spent to get in and by the time I got it I had around 5000 left.
But that Flail is the thing I am most proud of in all of my time playing WoW.
Thinking back though, I think the real reason I enjoyed Legion so much is because of where I was when I played it. I was actually able to make WoW my main game during Legion and I pulled off some stuff I never had before because of it. Completed my first Heroic Raid - Nighthold - as a Pug no less. (Healer privilege baby).
I never did a mythic raid, but I reckon I could have got through one with the right group. My mount collection was massive, I did not need ANY more mounts.
Now for the sad part, (well, it's both happy and sad) I seem to be done with WoW forever nowadays. By the end of Legion I felt like I had a lot of classes and specs at what could be considered an "end point", and I ritualistically spent my last day in the game taking each of them to the place they had designated their home. They had beaten several of the raid bosses including Argus, where we even defeat Sargeras in a way. Back when I started in TBC Sargeras was considered by many to be the eventual Be All, End All big bad end boss of the game that we would "eventually" have to deal with. Now I had.
My Druid Aromni stands beside Hamuul Runetotem on Elder Rise in Tunder Bluff. My mage plays a strategic game of Hearthstone against any comers, at a table overlooking Dalaran where contemplates the past, and my Orc Warrior has found a new life as a tinkerer in retirement, and spends most days at the Engineering shop in Orgrimmar where he learned so many designs during his war years. My point is that Legion allowed me to feel fully satisfied by the game, and I know BFA would not.
I quit because I could see the writing on the wall dude. After WoD I started looking at WoW differently than before. I started to try to sniff out the things that would kill the game for me, BEFORE they came out, based on the trailers and pre-hype. The buzz around BFA, and my own personal feelings, told me I would not enjoy the next expansion, so I never bought it. I subbed for two months during WoD, the first month that immediately put me off, and the month of 6.2 when a friend convinced me it would be better than launch (it was not). So I didn't wanna be burned again.
My buddy continued to play BFA for a little while, but he's quit now too. I've seen the stuff for shadowlands, and it hasn't grabbed me at all. I still keep up on the game, through channels like yours, as it's interesting to follow even as someone who never plans on coming back to the game.

I think what alot of people forget is that the release of 7.2 brought back a bit of players. Nighthold, being one of my favorite raids aside from mythic star auger and botantist. A ton of players were geting burned out. some guilds had to swap out just about 5-15 people due to this burn-out. A lot of guilds died during NH and after.
During 7.2 i was just coming back from this burnout. and found myself very behind and had to bring myself back up. Legion to me i have to rank 2nd best xpac for me. i spent the most time playing legion and had the most fun as i felt like i was able to get my name out there as a competitive raider

7.2 was an amazing patch. 1. Mage tower made me want to advance my characters gear and progress. It gave me a goal. 2. There was a lot of new content but most of the content and progress through it could be “self learned”. 3. Legendaries were fun to farm, we never farmed AP in legion but got AP passively through our legendary farming efforts (which blizzard never realized). Broken shore was a fantastic area.
For 8.2 I think of the word overwhelming and draining, too many weekly to do chores in order to stay competitive in our classes, from conquest, to war fronts, to emissaries to islands. It just felt cluttered. Gear is fun to grind but not everything else. If gear is our focus but we get extra stuff along the way us players like that. Mana pearl grinding was not fun, and there was a lot of new content but most of it required a guide book to get through to maximize. I spend so much time doing my weekly in-game “chores” that I haven’t had a lot of time to actually do what I want in game for BFA, which is play it... I would have like to play RBGs more, or push more keys with friends more but oh wait, I didn’t get that one achievement to get rank3 of some essence or wait farmed over 1,000 mana pearls and still never got all BIS benthic. Or wait, I still haven’t put the time in to finish the nazjatar achievements for that mount because I just haven’t had the time. Thanks blizzard for turning a game into work. Some how they got confused and thought “chores” were content. That’s where they missed it the most. We want to self direct as gamers, not feel like we have to do 1, 2, 3, 4 chores each week to just be good enough to keep up with our friends.

I didn't get my tower skins until Antorus was well out. And by god, even being ever so slightly overgeared because of Argus catchup, I still felt like a god getting them. Especially the Warrior tank one, and Ret Paladin. Ret Paladin was the one I took the most time on, was the most "important" for me. The skin was so damn good, I -had- to have it. Leveled a Paladin all the way from 100-110 in less than a week, and geared to the bare minimum of the challenge, and tried. I failed, a lot, and I learned every failure. I went and got more gear, came back and kept learning and failing. And then it all clicked. Just went for it, in Discord with some friends, chatting. And finally got it, and I felt so goddamn good about it.

7.2 - I was doing Heroic progression raiding. I was trying to do my Mage tower and failing hard. I was doing my world quests to grind Artifact power. I was unlocking the various skins for my Artifact Weapon. I was playing almost every day and enjoying myself quite a bit.
8.2 - Haven't even logged on since 8.1, sadly. BfA had the most intense and short lived honeymoon period for me. I loved the early content, but as soon as Heroic Uldir was cleared, my motivation to play evaporated. I didn't want to do Island Expeditions. I didn't want to grind Azerite. I didn't want to grind for Azerite Armor pieces. I didn't want to do Warfronts. I didn't want to do M+ to get my weekly RNG lootbox reward. While I thought the World Quest system was great when it was introduced in Legion, it ended up feeling like nothing but tedious chores by the time BfA rolled around. When Battle for Dazar'Alor dropped, I was hyped. I had heard so many good things. After beating it on Normal mode, not even Heroic, I thought "Meh." and my motivation to play evaporated again. I quit playing. When 8.2 rolled around, I noticed from what had been going on in my guild's discord that my guild was dying. When the new raid dropped, I noticed none of my favorite guildies had come back for it, and that was that.
Played Classic for a while, but got bored of that eventually. Now I'm not sure if I'll ever play WoW again. Still subbed to channels like yours, to see how things develop, but coming back to WoW seems like a long shot at this point
