I've owned bikes for over 50 years including 1500 & 1800 Goldwings and downsized to a 1996 Helix five years ago. I performed an overdue complete mechanical maintenance @ 22,000 miles, while the visual appearance was showroom condition. Being 70 now the Helix is everything that I need and want nowadays, and is just perfect for the little bit of riding that I do, or will do before my final day.
The plug wire may be old and giving a weak spark. Changed mine with a piece of copper core from NAPA off their bulk roll. The wire is changeable and goes into the old coil and boot.
I just got an 87 today. The owner was an elderly woman who passed away. She babied this thing. There was a quart of oil and a spare belt in the trunk. I hope it's as much fun as my 86! I wish honda would bring the helix back with bigger tires and a 300 or 400.
Alot of the things Armchair talks about here I also needed to do to my Honda Reflex scooter at just after turning 50000 miles. If anyone else has that sporatic off idle chop the fix is relatively simple. These bikes and aftermarket carbs are set lean and all I did that completely fixed the problem was richen up the air fuel mixture screw. The amount of richness will be determined by whatever altitude you are living and operating the scooter in. 😁
Got a '92, but not in such fine optical condition. I replaced a lot: Bumps, fuel pump replaced by a smaller vacuum pump, variomatic, clutch both by Mallossi, new seat cover. Caburator bracket to avoid fast damage of intake rubber. Cold start device, ignition coil. I added a USB port. Grip heating, seat heating. I like this maschine. It's my prefered bike compare to KTM 390 Duke or 2019 SUZUKI Katana 1000. I own the Helix since 2 years. The only thing I miss is abs on the front wheel. I would feel more secure, because it's to less weight on the front wheel. It tends to block when you brake hard at the front.
Are you sure that's a 1986, did you replace the plastics? The original 1986 models used silver embossed emblems, the bikes in the late 1990s switched to the sticker. Also the older seats I remember, being more grey then black. I could be wrong. In my area of New England we only got the "Candy Glory Red", in 86 other parts of the country got the "Pearl Shell White".
@@myntultryp3685 The vin plate says 1986, and the vin number matches the vin that is stamped in the frame. As I said earlier, the plastics are most likely replacements
I'm on my third helix a 2007 red one with a top case. 17k miles. Great scooter but goes thru those small tires pretty fast. I'll never part with this one. Have a reflex and a shadow as well.
I owned a 1987 Honda Helix I bought new. It was the best scooter I’ve ever owned. 👍In 1991 I started a new job and got razed too much by other riders who mainly had Harleys. Long story short I sold it and wish I wouldn’t have.
Damn , I have a elite 250 but I want the helix, I’m 6’3”. I think it would suit me better, but they are a lot of fun without being a production like riding a larger bike, just hop on easy and run to the store or whatever.
If you never rode a Helix, you don't know the special feeling of riding relaxed and comfy without caring for anything...

The bad thing is this scooter never existed in my country. It looks very comfortable to drive. First time I know until now I still want it
Ran my old helix all summer . 8$ a week in gas . Can’t wait now for spring to get back out at sunset and send it

Congrats on the bike! A modern version of a Helix definitely has potential to be pretty cool
Love the Helix.
I love that scooter, I dream of having one someday soon.

Final year was 2007 and I have a 2007. You can adjust the rear spring shocks for more weight like other motorcycles.
Honda Fusion... still being made!!
@@amatureskater15 Oh STOP. Only thing that looks like them is the cheap Chinese clones.
I've been looking for one of these everyday for ages.
@@SweatySockPuppet I’ve seen a decent amount on Facebook marketplace in our area, but of course it depends on where you live
You're a trip. Love the video and the Helix. 😊
I have an 87 Helix. Love it. If you gave $500 you got a good deal.
Thanks for watching!
My cousin got 86 helix for $200 and decided to give it to me, can’t wait to fix it up!
I have one. love the trunk, I go food shopping with it.
Love the Helix. I have one. Looks to me like you were in Georgia. Great video!
We are in Upstate New York, but this time of year we wish we had Georgia weather haha, thanks for watching!
It has a nice long wheel base which gave it a great ride. I owned a New Helix in 1987(Red)I had a 17#watermelon in the truck once.😅
Very nice do you still have the helix? I have a Honda Elite 250 and in Queensbury NY. If your ever interested on going on a ride let me know.

You can’t beat the comfort and smoothness of a helix! Thanks for watching!
@@armchairbikerstv you are welcome. Thanks for entertaining me. Many greetings from Bremen, Germany

The seat is definitely not original and it's very likely that the plastics aren't either, this bike was a craigslist find lol. Thanks for watching!
yeah Im definitely thinkin this is a 92 or 93. nonetheless, that thing is awesome. wish I had one

2006 was the last model year.
I just got me a lifan KP mini 150 it's so fun u got to get one and give it a go
from 1992 until 2023 through any bad weather temperatures and road surfaces and traffic mine still holds up, none like this ...Japanese
76 mph out of mine. Still working out the mileage. I need to put 3-2 gallon in a dry tank to find out

That's a shame that you let those bikers get to you. Don't listen to idiots. They blew money on stupid stuff.
Nice clean screen!
GPS tested my speedo with my phone on my 87 and it's about 4-5mph generous at 70mph. Google maps says 64-65
I'm looking to buy a helix if you ever want to sell it I'm interested in getting one
Where r u?
I love my 00 helix...gets about 67 mph.
I wish i have one but only in my dream...

Im 6'3" and will confirm your thought. The Helix is much more comfortable than an Elite 250. Better designed for higher speeds as well!
@@jasonswiatkowski9127I’m keeping a look out for one, thanks.
You're missing the plastic wings up front, they really block the wind, get some.
Old stuff is difficult on spare parts...so beware of it.
Very cool.
Thanks for watching!
Yhe 86 had the helixwss a metal chromed, not a decal.aldo wasn't that color red.more like a 96.
I have helix o7 reflex o6 and shadow o5 go helix has
