Hello Esther, thank you so much for this video. It has helped me understand what health science is really like. If you do make more videos could you possibly make one on what halls have great support for HSFY students or how year 13's are able to prepare for the work volume HSFY brings. Awesome video and very informative!
Hi Shreysh, that's great to hear that it's been helpful! Great suggestions! I'll keep them in mind. For the second part of your question - highly recommend checking out the TH-cam channels in the description of this video! :)
Hi! Yes I did NCEA. I did triple science in Y12 and Y13 and calc and stats in Y13. From my experience, Y12 biology, Y12+Y13 physics and chemistry were really useful for HSFY. Stats in Y13 may be helpful if you want to do an optional 8th stats paper and stats was a nice NZQA scholarship subject if that's something you're interested in. Hope that helps! :) God bless!
Hi, would you say that someone that doesn't really know about Physics and Chemistry, can successfully take 1st year Health Science, I'm scared to go into medicine, because I'm not good and don't understand Chemistry or Physics. I don't even know the basic questions, but I want to be a doctor. Do you think I'll struggle without not having prior knowledge on the three sciences, and what is your advice?😅
@@llacc when you say you don't really know chem or Phys, are you saying that you haven't performed well in them or have never taken them before? Regardless, having no prior knowledge is an instant disadvantage to HSFY, I'm also a year 13, and I have taken all the recommended subjects for HSFY and still feel dumb because the other people also trying for HSFY are doing as many extracurricular activities and scholarship papers they can just to get prepared for HSFY so that they can stay ahead of the competition. I do not mean to scare you, but what I'm trying to say is that HSFY is very competitive and for entry into doctor and dentistry it's even more competitive and attempting to have every advantage over your peers is crucial. I would greatly advise you to get the Otago HSFY entrance (which is just the normal UE entrance). During the holidays or as soon as you can you should start studying for all of the exams for each of the three sciences, do pretend exams in exam conditions of past exam papers at home and mark yourself using the past exam answer sheets. Remember it's not the end of the world but if I were in your position I would just get UE entrance so that I am eligible for HSFY at Otago. Then if you still really do not know anything about the three sciences and still are passionate about becoming a doctor then talk with your family and take a gap year, and enrol into a education system such as learncoach.nz they teach you how to get the best grades for every single subject offered in NCEA, with walkthroughs and questions and tutors online. I recommend this site because I have used it this year and it genuinely helps a lot because they make it soo easy. Or an alternative pathways is that you don't go for a career into doctor straight away maybe just become a nurse first and then work your way up, it wont seem as stressful then.
@USER-nn7vp Oh my, thank you I'll check it out and try my best, If I decide for Medicine over Business and Law, I will try to enrol in the Foundation Pathway that orients students like me, who are clueless or have little to no knowledge on the three sciences, before the semester starts. Whatever you want to study, I hope you become great at it, and thank you 😊
@@llacc @llacc Hi :) Sorry I didn't see your message until now. Looks like @USER-nn7vp has given some great advice!! That's really cool that you're considering medicine. I agree with what's been said. HSFY is quite competitive, and there is a compulsory physics and chemistry paper that is very helpful to do well in to have the best chances of getting in to medicine. I think it's a very good idea to do foundation pathway if you haven't had y12/y13 exposure to chemistry or physics.
