- Thanks for joining our family on our exhilarating sailing adventures! We are thrilled to have you with us as we embark on this incredible journey across the open water. In this week's exciting episode, we set sail on the thrilling first step of our epic journey, where the wind fills our sails and the sea stretches out before us like an endless blue canvas. Don't miss out on the amazing DOOGEE R20 Rugged tablet that we are showcasing in this video, featuring a powerful 21600mAh battery, which ensures that you can stay connected and powered up for days on end, even in the most remote locations. The tablet's 33W fast charging capability means that you can quickly recharge it and get back to what you love without any long wait times.
Top tip - NEVER reach for the handle of the pick-up buoy with the boathook. Always reach for the rope the pick-up buoy is on. Dig the boathook underneath that rope and lift and you will ALWAYS get the pick-up aboard. I have seen people fail to get the buoy handle so many times and then either panic or get frustrated.
Anyway - enjoy the boaty experience 👍
Who else is waiting for the video of Jack, Spraddle legged behind the wheel meeting 10 foot waves water crashing over the bow...
Jack's a lovely young man. Lots of smarts, humour and kindness.
All the hard works paid off, well done all of you, happy adventures 💛
Captain Jack and his first mate Ollie are so cute‼️
Well done guys, not going to lie, the end of the last episode and start of this one was emotional. On to the next chapter. Take care. Andy UK
Would love to see Andy doing pilates on the fore deck (regular shorts will do though). Where I live there are yoga classes for "stiff males" Haha!
Keep it up!
‘We are going to throw you overboard, Jack’. (Smiles broadly) Yeah sure…… He certainly is ready for this adventure 😊
That little mate in the pretty preserver is so cute!
What a great episode! It's wonderful to see you all on your way after all the trials and tribulations. I felt quite emotional watching it, the music was very evocative. One small trip for the boat, one giant leap for the Bennington-Turners!
🥰
Well done Andy your such a good husband and father safety first cannot fault you at all 😊
The longest journey starts with the first step..😁 Fair winds and following seas !
I loved seeing all of your smiles and hearing your laughter! Thank you all! Safe travels and fair winds from AZ USA!
Get a COBB oven barbecue set. You can use this on and off the boat. Bake fry steam etc. a great way to keep heat off the boat and cook outside. Portable for those great beach cooks. Uses charcoal but very economical and uses little charcoal. They even sell one to fit the burner or use the small regular briquettes.
Will have a look at these!
Jack, you'll be an RYA Day Skipper before you know where you are. Great job
At last, the moment we've been waiting for. To quote a great man... I love it when a plan comes together
Dear Sailing Melody family.
👍👌👏 2) You're all smiling from ear to ear because of leaving the harbour and leaving land at last. Congratulations ! 🎉 I wish you, that being on the water respectively sailing will always make you happy like this.
Best regards, luck and especially health to all involved people.
One of your best episodes with some excellent editing background music etc looking forward to whats ahead
Well there we are, you're off on your adventure.
For you, it must be very exciting to have a complete change of life and I wish you the very best.
For me, it's yet another channel that has completely changed direction. I started watching when you were cutting a hole in the bow of the steel hull, and I followed the progress with much interest.
Now the channel is a 'look-where-we're-sailing-to-this-week - aren't-we-having-a-wonderful-life' type thing.
I wish you all the luck in the world. I'm off on my own journey; to find the next boatbuilding channel to follow.
The channel will very much still be boat work and restoring things just in different locations she is still very much a project boat. Completely understand that we now might not be the channel for you and we thank you for coming this far on our journey 🙏
Congratulations! I know you will . 1: Teach "All" on board how to start the engine and move/steer the boat! so if Andy falls overboard??? The boat is still in capable hands and as someone else mentioned. 2: Have the dinghy ready to launch! 3:Anyone going out of the cockpit should be attached to the boat! I am sure plenty more well meaning people and perhaps even fewer idiots will continue to keep you right? now carry on lol.
G'day Crew,
Great to see the smiles on everyone's face ,all that work on both boats , now your in the wind .
Very pleased to see the "man overboard "drill, working a crew up at sea always pays off , daily drills such as fire & damage controll can mean the difference between saving the boat ,or even a life .
Keep up the great job Andy ,
all this without a kettle or cuppa tea in sight.
Fair winds .
Respect....!
Lovely to see the joy on all your faces. Dreams can come true.
So good to see the joy and enthusiasm in this video of you starting your journey. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid
Fair winds! All the best from Hamburg, Germany!
Free at last to live your dreams. I am so happy for you. I really enjoyed this video. Keep well and safe. James.

So happy for you all, well done on your first step. Been great to follow you on your journey so far. The smile on the kids faces says it all. Adventure of a lifetime and what an education!
What a wonderful episode! The joy on all faces is contagious. So happy for all.
Well done Jack and well done Andy Melissa and crew for a pleasant safe video ollys is certainly growing quickly fair winds and calm seas to you all 😊😊
Epic voyage, were are all praying for safe and fun filled future episode's full of perfectly edited Family life aboard Melody.
Always good to show the kids what to do and how. Did you see Sailing Fair Isle got a nifty bit of man over board kit.
Good to see you finally heading off.
Best wishes on the journey.
You set off in the future! Well done!
Time travelers 😂
I am so proud of you guys! Hard work paid off! Amazing!
I loved the rough seas clip, that was awesome! 😂 Hopefully you don’t ever run into that. 🤞🏻
Wow, you finally untied the lines. Congratulations to you all. What an achievement, I’m delighted for you. Break out the Dream Theater in celebration.
I think you might run across Simon and Gemma. Best wishes and safe journeys from Montana !
I would love to see this channel be the safety vlog of sailing. From purchase to registration to test of an AIS with installation. to running lines and storing. fitting life jackets and costs. just something new regularly.
keep up the good work and find smiles.
😃
Thanks
Congratulations! Looking forward to your sailing adventures ahead! Take care.
Well done! Fair winds
Amazing to see everything come together. Cant wait to see your adventures.
Good to see you both so happy. Mellissa looks happier than ever before. Bon voyage xx
Congrats! What an amazing journey. Two boats refit, and a baby! Now sailing!
The nook/space the wee ones are watching 'Miss Rachel' (??) at 02 50 looks so snug and both are lapping it up !
Woohoo delighted for you all. Living the dream. I’m sure excitement levels were off the charts
Awesome guys! Massive congratulations - finally the dream begins! See you down the line somewhere 👍
p.s. Most of the mooring buoys in the Caribbean don't have pickup lines!
Hey :) thanks yeah. With buoys which have no pickup line I normally just jump in the tender and nip ahead to tie a strop on so I can pass it to Melissa. Tricky in choppy water though
Relax and enjoy can’t wait for you all to get some warm weather ❤
I love it that you use traditional navigation on sight using transits and such. Not plotter gazers, not being tied up in the virtual world, but in the real space world.
congrats! BTW appropos of nothing we added a bidet attachment to our loos goes under toilet seat and it is awesome and saves toilet paper ! you can rinse w/ warm or cold water ! nice to stay fresh , uber clean between showers and the GF likes it ! we both use it and "closer times" are greatly improved ! would be esp good on a boat, close quarters w/staying fresh for benefit of crew ! we men do reek sometimes !
Well done CREW Happy and SAFE Journey's
De la joie, du plaisir, et c'est communicatif. Les gens heureux me rendent heureux
Bravo et bon vent !
This is what all the hard work and worry was for. So nice to see you all enjoying your hard work ❤
You really need guardrail netting up for the little one, surely you would have been better going to Pwllheli, then you could have sailed in the bay as practice/checking the boat out, now you will have to go through the straits and over the bar, or around Holyhead. Sailing in and out of Deganwy is limited and a right PITA. 😂
We have the netting, it on the urgent list so will be in an episode soon! Deganwy suited us for various reasons.
I think it would be good to practice the MOB whilst in reasonably sheltered waters it would be useful to do the MOB practice under sail ,and work out your fastest routine for dropping sails reducing sail and the quick tacking combining these actions into a routine for starting the engine and GPS button .
Your forward starboard upper lifelines look a bit slack and as mentioned elsewhere netting should be fitted.
Good sailing and well done with the enclosure, looks very roomy and practical..
Congratulations to the family and friends for a great v video and above all very happy to see you are now on your way!
Andy when my son then 12yrs old fell overboard he stepped onto the edge of our dingy inverting it with his legg pointing upwards trapped between the rope edge and the inflatable tube and the rest of him below the surface . His LJ automatically inflated and brought his head up above the surface . we threw a proprietory safety line to him and it wouldnt fit over an inflated LJ .. hows that for poor design! (That hit the bin afterwards ).. We got him back by getting him to crook his arm thru it and pulled him in that way. Unfortunately it was a hot day and I was resting in bed when he went splash, naturally I shot up and started to sort him out . The crowd at the peer then started sniggering and I realised I was starcus !! Oh well small things amuse some people.. BWS Peter Yacht Brillig
So excited for your new season life adventures. Stay safe and healthy.
Good to see you practice the MOB drill. Fair winds!
Finally! This is exciting.
Excellent. Nice to watch your progress and journey.
Love watching your adventure, i wish you the very best 👍
Great to see the first step of your journey on the sea. I've been watching since the purchase of Steel Melody, Me and my wife lived on our boat with a young child and back in the late 90's, We found NO-1 priority was safety netting to give that little bit of freedom and safety, Please, Please think seriously about this.
Best wishes and fare winds.
Cheers from NZ
We have it and will be installed very soon. 😁
Wow guys I'm choked, well done, you are amazing, you have all worked so hard ,so so happy for you, can't wait to watch your journey, thank you.
Safe journey.
That new hardtop is a masterpiece ❤! Just right for the sailing family 😊
Please look back at old Ran episodes when they had their baby and installed a permanent car seat in a corner of the cockpit . Oliver will be secure there and you will know that he is safe and you have your hands for yourselves and other things. You cannot and should not have a child in your arms while sailing at least not all of the time. Cheers from British Columbia, Canada
One small transit for a family...
I used to do man overboard with full sails! I was quite good at it
Congratulations on the start of your Big Adventure!
However, you really need to find somewhere permanent for all the stuff in the dinghy, so it can be launched quickly in an emergency.
Yes we are working on that over the coming weeks!
I love for full monty pilates...lo,l good on you for being on your way
I feel the excitement! Congratulations on taking the first step of your big adventure! Much respect to you all.
Yippee... and you're off. AND Captain Jack was 'up for' MOB. I knew you were joking, I always trusted you to look after your family and crew in a professional manner.
God bless you all
So happy for you all 🎉🎉. Safe travels and fair winds ⛵️⛵️🥰
Congratulations and cheers to the start of your adventures.
My second comment on TH-cam is a great video. A lot less time laps music is still too much for me, but a lot more like the OG videos I started watching of you guys( PS, my fist ever comment way to say I loved what you where doing and this is my second). The year gap is because stop saying sorry for sensible actions and no more time laps. Please, you guys have more then enough personality to notate this own this ❤
Thank you so so much. Lovely supportive input and constructive comments
That Man Overboard drill was spot on I appreciate that because I didn't know
fair winds and following seas⛵
Great to see you finally leave. Jack needs to shorten the straps of his lifejacket.
They were actually super tight and that's the excess that we need to tuck away.
congrates and all the best to you and your family...i will follow your journey as always....your doin a dream of mine...and i am so jelous of u all xx
The very best of luck safe travels x
Congratulations guys you are on your way . More adventures just waiting around the corner.
Congratulations Guys... I am the current owner of Aeolus and was hoping to catch you in the marina before you left.
Hi Barry we’re in Norrh Wales still so please get in touch if you like on turner.andy@hotmail.com. Maybe we could come over and film a little piece about our original family boat
Hope you are shaking these back spasms soon. They are the pits. I get them once in a while. Rest and take a muscle relaxer and keep your back straight with gentle exercises to get in form again. That is how I deal with it. Good luck.
Congratulations! This has been a long time coming. You all have worked so very very hard. It's not what you planned for when you started out in the beginning. Because Life Happens. Well done.
nice one.
Congrats!!! I am very happy for this huge milestone! Waiting for pilates lessons!
Well done congratulations on the big adventure ahead , fair winds and calm seas cheers from Australia
brought back fond memories we have sailed the swellies many times
Well done no go and have a great time I think yous have earned it good luck
So happy for you guys to see you finally under way on your journey, I can actually feel your joy and enthusiasm, fair weather my friends and I will be along for the journey 😊
Awesome ❤️❤️❤️
Nicely done and a good thing to practice. My first go-to for MOB when sailing, is to tack to hove-to. it requires nothing but turning the wheel ( and maybe pulling in the jib sheet if you are running deeply. It stops the boat almost immediately and then you can decide what to do from there. I hove-to at least every time I go out sailing. I do it to reef, to hoist the main, to take a lunch break and most importantly to visit the head without being on my ear.
Cheers guy’s 😊
I wish you and your family the very best for the future and good luck 😊
Good on you all
Best wishes
Paul
Nice to hear Oli say his first online word. Hi Oli
Best wishes for your jorney from the beginning with steel melody, Paulus
Cheers to you all too....
