Just you getting to meet this guy was worth the drive. Amazing discussion about his kids and what a great question, "how do you get your kids to play when it's your thing?"
My 2009 335 sunburst has the "dreaded" red color in the burst, but I love playing it. I bought it on eBay - broken headstock and all - for around $1600. After a professional repair and swapping the all-black knobs for the mirror-top knobs, it's a keeper. Enjoy the new guitar and blessings on the move! :)
I love BS ing with the dudes I buy/sell/trade guitars off of… hearing the background on the guitar and then passing those stories along to the next guy eventually. Guitar culture ❤️
I bought a 2002 ES335 on Reverb for no joke 2,000 a few months ago. It had a repaired headstock, but almost unnoticeable. It's a little heavy, but has the original case, and has a figured top. Can't believe I got that deal.
In the late 70s I bought a blonde Telecaster Custom at a bowling alley. Guy was doing his cover band gig so I got to hear him play it and bought it on his break. Although the factory Bixby meant it would not stay in tune for more than a couple of songs, I wish I still had it as I think I only paid $300 for it.
Nice find- I drove right by that Bojangles yesterday coming home from Red Wing! We missed you there, but I got to hang with Chris and Vinny your HTM buds. Red Wing was awesome as usual. Hope you’re well!
This happened to me too - bought a brand new Les Paul - he had to move. It was never plugged in to an amp.I looked it up and down and inside out to make sure it was ok, had the serial checked to make sure it wasn't stolen and bought it. Best move I ever made!!!!!
Nice score! I keep dreaming of owning a 335. They’re the perfect balance for an acoustic player who wants to dabble in electric. They’re also versatile for nearly any style of music.
I once met a seller a little while back in a parking lot for an advertised 2010 sunburst es335. I traded an 2010 LP trad plus $300 for it. That 335 was showroom condition, probably the orig strings. It played absolutely perfect. I sold it after I acquired a great deal on an ES355. I will never forget how stellar that es335 was.
Nice find... I bought a wonderful Taylor dreadnought (my favorite player) on a cold Winter's day in a Wendy's parking lot in East St. Louis, Illinois. It was so cold out the guitar couldn't resonate, but I took it knowing it fit my hand well.
Back in 1973, my cousin and I went to see an old guy in the Santa Cruz mountains who had a Gibson for sale. It turned out to be a cherry red 1961 ES-345. The old guy gave my cousin a break because $400 because it was all he had. It was truly a fretless wonder, and it played like butter. I was broken hearted to find out that he sold it 20 years later for an eight ball of cocaine without offering to sell it to me first. 😢
Jeremy - great find! I like that word "wrangle" - They are 'substantial' guitars! Not to dis' New Orleans or Louisiana, and I know that's your home country, but I can't believe you're leaving SW Virginia and the gorgeous Shenandoah Valley and environs - doesn't get any better than that, IMO! Selfishly/vicariously I hope you make it back. I grew up as a kid in NoVA (DC 'burbs), and we used to travel the Shenendoah Valley, Blue Ridge Parkway etc, frequently on weekend roadtrips and vacations. We would camp at what we called Lake Sherando, now (irritatingly!) people call Sherando Lake, southeast of Staunton,... if you've ever been. Magical place in the Blue Ridge to pitch a tent back in the 50s and 60s at least. All that said, I wish you well on your next adventure regardless!
335's are one of those guitars where it takes me 10 to 15 guitars to find one that I like. They're weird, they either fit me well or not at all. When you get a good one, they're the most versatile guitar in my stable. I currently have 5 and zero plans to part with any of them. If i don't bond with it right away, I walk away. I'm a Blues player and these were built for that genre imo. I throw Seth Lovers in mine and do 50's wiring. Just straight up Blues machines. I like em with a lot of love on em. If it's too shiny it ain't been loved enough for me. I need the ones with the built in MOJO.
I would play Pretty Woman for one of my Memory Care friends, and a bunch of hymns sung by Elvis (also requested by friends in MC). It would be either solo or with piano accompanying. Thought this was a good deal. What is the neck profile like?
Bro, I've worked in the guitar biz my whole life. I also grew up in NC but have lived on the west coast for a while now. I'll offer a little life advice... 335s are a dime a dozen, but Boberry biscuits are rare, and the true thing to be cherished.
Nice buy bro. I play blues. I would love to see you play some Allman Bros stuff on that beauty. Trogoly's channel just did a review of a early 2000's ES-335. You could find out some good history on ES -335 Production and serial numbers from his video. Good luck with your 335 bro. Looks like you got a good one for the 'Good Guy' price.
Pretty little instrument. I would play some trad jazz on it. Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Barney Kessel. It would make me work hard, and I would endeavour to make it sing like an angel.
I had a friend by a Rickenbacker bass on Facebook market place for $1500 …. I told the fool it was a fake Rick but noooooooo, he just had to buy it….it was a really bad fake ..
Did this exact thing. Turned out it was stolen, dropped it off at 1 am at a state trooper barracks in Hagerstown MD. Didn’t want the karma. Keep hunting Jeremy. Love the content.
My only question is, why in the hell are you moving to New Orleans? WHY? You might want to check into something a little further north. Like maybe a parish to the east of Baton Rouge. I'm only 45 min away from New Orleans, and avoid it like the plague.
@@Darth.Shredder Oh I meant like "Standard" by American. Do they make Studios for $2,600??? That's crazy if they do! This dude said he paid $2,600 for this guitar new and was selling it used for $2,200. I have an 03 cherry red 335 that is one of the early Memphis made ones that I got for $2,100 a few years ago and I thought that was a steal. The market on 335's is out of control right now.
So how did it feel short changing the poor guy because he probably needs the money , then you’re going to flip the guitar for over 3 grand!! How did that feel??? You short changed the guy 500 dollars then flip it! Why don’t you just call yourself the GUITAR FLIPPER
I feel bad for the guy you bought it off of ... do you ever feel like you are taking advantage of someone who might be in a tough financial spot, etc...?
I understand that feeling. I talk a lot with the people I buy from. You can see how much I care about people and their lives. He was very happy and I was the highest offer in the quickest amount of time. There are certainly times when people are hard up and need help and I’ll pay full asking price. I’ve also connected people with other people I know (churches, attorneys, ministries, food pantry’s) if they need bigger help.
Bridge is backwards. All the Chinese fakes are built like that. Canada, we are awash with fake guitars from Alibaba. Loads of hollow body Gibson’s from China.
Just you getting to meet this guy was worth the drive. Amazing discussion about his kids and what a great question, "how do you get your kids to play when it's your thing?"
Whoa, I can’t believe you scored that for $2200. Amazing deal!

I absolutely love you going on these little trips and finding cool guitars!

Arent most Guitar Centers essentially in a Bojangles parking lot?
🤣😂 nice one

Love that seller, what a cool guy.
i love it you went back to your roots, finding guitars!

New ones are $2999 for the standard
Beautiful instrument. Nice score! Wish I could buy it, as it’s a perfect bursted dot 335. This will go quick!

Nice guitar and a 335 will be my 1st electric add when I find the right one!
I just picked up a used 335 Satin Memphis for under $2k. Pretty stoked to have it.
Those meetings can be so awkward at times.
I would play Pretty Woman for one of my Memory Care friends, and a bunch of hymns sung by Elvis (also requested by friends in MC). It would be either solo or with piano accompanying. Thought this was a good deal. What is the neck profile like?
Congrats on that win. I own few guitars, but that ES 335 has been elusive for quite a while , eventually I’ll get mine.

Basically, you've conned him, and you're a church goer!
Currently for sale for 3299 in the store, only a modest upcharge lol
Wonderful!!! What a sweet dude.

Having grown up hanging out in a Bojangles parking lot, a lot can go wrong. Haha
Coincidentally, I bought a ‘08 335 in a Denny’s parking lot.
Awesome seeing you back “hunting”!
Me too, Matt! I’m glad to be back out and about.
It's like Buying drugs, i heard about this sort of thing! :-0

Cool guy. Guitar = friendship.

Hopefully it went back to the owner. That was a righteous thing to do👍
That's a dang good bargain!
I live outside New Orleans! Have a great move!
That's a beaut, and he seems like a cool dude.
Beautiful guitar, very nice seller.
That's a steal!!
Play anything by Johnny Rivers on that 335 and it will feel at home 🏡

We’re moving to the north shore.
Did you say you "low balled" him??? ☹
Awesome

Wow, 2200 for that. Killer!
Moving to New Orleans? Come and see me!

He knows I’m a dealer.
DR STRINGS ARE GREAT
There are a ton of fakes out there. I would be careful on facebook
