The thing that still gets me is the 'drifter' pawn event. You can have a scientist, transmutating man, someone with fantastic charisma and abilities to control the dead. etc, etc. But there is always a downside... no social ability due to endless mad ramblings, a body that decays rapidly with tumors, a psychic pain pulse when the user gets to a low mood that hurts everyone and drives animals mad that are close... maybe an uninvited entity tagged along. Nah, the best tool to fight the unnatural darkness is the entry-level power for skipmaster from Vanilla Expanded Psycasts. Solar pinhole is an underwhelming ability 99.99% of the time, but when the darkness comes, that thing might as well be the hand of god. Lasts an entire day and illuminates an entire neighborhood. Flares are still competitive because they stun.
I remember my first time with the warped obelisk fondly. I send my pregnant researcher to investigate the thing, she gets warped... and proceeds to give birth a couple of hours later. I still don't get how I managed to save her and baby Jon😂
In my case it was my unarmed janitor that was suppressing it when he got randomly teleported. An impid with no weapons, barebones armor, zero skill at anything combat and utterly and completely defenseless stuck in there
One time I did a skip abduction and got a leader of an enemy faction. I then used them to de age all my colonists down to their early twenties. To minimize metalhorror infection risk via combat, I like to use scythers as melee instead of pawns since mechs are immune to infection. They also work great for devourer bait allowing pawns to unload in range while they try to eat.
I love the mystery aspect of "Who is infected?" of the metalhorror Anomaly. I get that not everyone likes it(One of the first mods I saw for Anomaly was the Metalhorror detector), But I Really hope that some modder(s) out there are able expand on the "internal threat" theme.
