Great video. This month I had dental work, car oil change and spark plugs replaced, computer died, cell phone died, and water heater broke. It's an expensive month!
Thanks for the portfolio update. I'm semi retired currently,, and just a few years younger; and have been on ACA for the last year. It's expensive!! I'm thinking of changing my plan to a cheaper alternative. Health insurance is the wild card in early retirement. A huge health emergency can certainly set anyone back financially. At the same time, I realize that I'll never be this young again, and that time waits for no one. So I struggle with the decision to fully retire. Great content btw. I've watched your videos from the beginning and see the amazing progress in quality!
My month was meh, too. Better than a major drop! Have a wonderful vacation, Julie! Looking forward to hearing about it and where you found that great deal when you get back.

Another great video Julie, I enjoy the portfolio updates. I laughed at "Meh", but when you are an investor, as opposed to a trader, short term performance doesn't matter as much, and your last 4 months looked good to me.
Love the positive vibes Julie. October was only the second down stock market month this year, so we’re still winning the long game. We really like you don’t bring in your home and vehicle into the liquid net worth updates. We see so much focus on homes and cars as assets. We view them as liabilities because you have to pay to upkeep and support them, not the other way around. We had a great savings month and had sold dividends, outside of that it was “meh” as you stated. 😊
It's funny. I was just checking in on my investments and I thought, wow my safer investments did better than the pure stock portion of my portfolio. Turned on your video to hear you say the same thing. My returns this month were meh as well. Hope you're having fun in the sun with your daughter!
Your portfolio update is great for others but I do not check mine as often as once a month. I look about twice a year. I live in the UK and have investments that pay good dividends, which works for me. I know US stocks are not good at returning profits as dividends so my strategy would probably not work well in the US.
Great video! I just want to share what I learned about mortgage. It might be useful to those who are nearing retirement but unable to pay off the entire mortgage. You can ask your lender about Recast program. This will help to lower your monthly mortgage amount if you have a lower balance (i.e. original loan amount $300K, now $200K balance) and keep the same interest rate. Lender will ask you to pay 10% of the existing balance + about $250 fee to process the recast program. It is cheaper than refinancing and less work compare to refinancing.
Congratulations, hope you are happy everyday. Sure, I'll share October our portfolio did better than I expected but its last peak was July. No surprise to me because I love studying the stock market. We are about 7 years from retirement. We have about $700k in our portfolio plus equity in our home etc. I guess technically we could retire sooner. Also technically homeless people retire with no money. We love to travel and do a lot now. So when I leave my job I don't want to use that time on my couch. That is why I'm aiming for $2,500,000 in retirement. I personally do not like the bucket strategy or any withdrawal strategy. We are constantly preparing and talking with our children. Have save travels. We are heading to Orlando next week.
@@HappyonMonday I share it if you are interested. It wasn't always a happy life. I didn't grow up with a silver spoon that is why I also share my information too. I appreciate you sharing.
I really appreciate your transparency, Julie. It's so helpful and encouraging to see the numbers. I look forward to your ACA video. I am likely going to go that route as well because my preliminary research shows it's going to be significantly less costly than COBRA with my soon to be ex employer. I am also starting to look at lower cost of living states (I'm in CA) because I plan on selling my townhome after I retire. Not right away but within a year of retirement, hopefully. Washington is on my list to scope out and was wondering if you had some insight/recommendations on cities and neighborhoods that I could consider and look into. Thank you in advance, Julie and have a great time in Mexico!

I have about twice what you have saved in my portfolio, however some of that I am ear-marking for my disabled adult daughter who lives with me(I have been divorced now 4 years). If I go 20 years I can get full health coverage for life from the state , however I just don't know if I can make it another 2 years..plus I will get about $1000 month pension. My question to you is...did you have the option of drawing a lump sum for your pension(instead of monthly) and what happened to your unused sick days? Thanks you for your interesting and informative content and CONGRATS! (hoping to join you soon in retirement bliss) :)
