I’m on a countdown, I have 27 more working days and I’m putting corporate life behind me. 40+ years is enough! I’ve enjoyed work over the years, but the last decade has been crazy and I’m ready to move on! Retirement is calling and I answered! 😉 I’m enjoying following your journey, thank you for the updates, they sure help.

I would rather die right after retiring then die before getting the chance to retire. While working my horrible job, I saw 3 coworkers die before getting to retirement. I am approaching my first year being retired anniversary and so far every day has been glorious. It has been like a waking dream every day, almost magical. Do I get bored ? Yes, sometimes I do and then I go do something different. 40 years of working, did I get bored? Yes, and I had to stick with the boredom for over 40 years.

My mother retired at 65 then dementia started at about 75, only 10 years or so of quality retirement after she planned for it for years , so sad, such a lesson to retire as soon as you can financially. It is such a cruel disease and it can happen to the fittest most active and intelligent people.

Excellent video!!! This video really resonates with me. I retired last year and a big part of my plan is getting lean and healthy by proper nutrition and exercise. I've used TH-cam and internet to study both exercise and nutrition. This plus better sleep and less anxiety has made me happier and healthier. My reason for this was watching the last generation and seeing both good and bad behaviours. Completely agree with your view!!!

A good indicator of health post retirement is to observe the lifestyle habits of the person pre retirement. If a person is a fast food eating, chain smoking, bottle guzzling whiskey type, I highly doubt this person now eats fruits and vegetables, quit smoking cold turkey, and trades in the booze for water upon retiring. But, you never know. There are exceptions to everything!

While I was working, they did a study on employees that retired at age 65. I was surprised to see that the study showed that those who retired at age 65, on average, died at 66 1/2. That was an alarming stat. I worked at a very large corporation that, at the time, employed almost 300,000 workers. I retired early and did not want to be part of that bad statistic.

most people retire because of their health id guess , many stats support this , especially for people who retire before age 60 ... most of those retiring before age 60 are forced due to health ... we obviously know the majority of americans do not save properly for retirement , the stats are everywhere showing this is a fact ... thats why people get the false notion that retiring is what made them die earlier

I retired at 54 I am nearly 80 now. My life has been full, busy and very impactful for the community and my family. I suppose some do retire and die shortly thereafter but that does not have to be the case. Retire and do nothing, go nowhere, sit around and veg out and yes your health can and probably will deteriorate. Retirement is a chance for a new beginning, a very good opportunity to re create yourself for a new life as you leave the old one behind. Create a new you.

I don’t regret retiring early, but if it had been a position that I felt confident in, I would have worked longer. Some do pass away right after retirement, but something may have had a health issue they didn’t know they had. I do need to get more exercise. I live is SW PA, and winter has really been bad so far. Do you know if ACA is still a possible solution with the new administration? I guess a part-time job without benefits would not be enough to pay for marketplace healthcare. From what I see it's like a mortgage. Maybe working for healthcare is best but with a less stressful job. I'm considering scaling back within the next 5-7 years. Mentally, I'm feeling the drain from 4.5 decades working. Btw I'm a huge Beavis and Butthead fan 😂 Love your visuals on each slide.

It is still a possible solution. It depends on potential future actions by Congress. It will still be there, the subsidies may just not be as good. There's also healthshare plans, which is my back up. Also, some part time jobs have health insuance! I always loved their laughs. 😁

Julie, my strategy is a modified bucket approach. Rather than holding cash and CD's in bucket one, I have been building a MYGA ladder over the past two years with various maturity dates. Another nice feature of the MYGA is that you have tax deferral, and, if needed, you may pull 10% out penalty free each year (after reaching age 59 1/2). MYGA rates are over 5% right now, and I will continue to build my ladder until they no longer meet my 5% threshold.

@@bettyb1581 A Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuity (MYGA) is a type of fixed annuity that guarantees a fixed interest rate for a set period, typically ranging from three to ten years. It's similar to a certificate of deposit (CD) but designed for retirement income. Here's a brief overview: Guaranteed Returns: MYGAs offer a guaranteed interest rate, providing a predictable return on your investment. Tax-Deferred Growth: The interest earned is tax-deferred until you start making withdrawals. Single Premium Payment: You typically fund an MYGA with a single premium payment. Low Risk: MYGAs are considered low-risk investments as they are not subject to market fluctuations. Retirement Income: They are often used to supplement retirement income by providing a steady stream of payments. MYGAs can be a good option for those looking for a stable and predictable investment, especially for retirement planning.
