You wouldn't think in a million years that there was an old tramway in the area, loving the old gateposts!! Fancy finding an old railway in your back garden, the only stuff I find in my garden is what Theo leaves me that comes out of his backside!!!!! This guy has some serious history going on there, the photo of the tunnel was brilliant too. That's been a great series, I hope some locals have a look at it to see what is actually on their doorstep.

Cheers Seamus. Cracking piece of history isn't it. Makes you wonder what else is buried across the country.

    Very interesting.
Definitely beats finding a Star Wars figure in the garden.

Crich is a treasure trove. Loved the world’s oldest tunnel. So did he own that strip of old railway land? Would love to have that in my garden!

He sure did. About 200 yards I believe.

'They', variously, have rated using Crich and close surrounds as a dumping ground over recent years.
Preservation on the one hand and the waste results of industrial creation on the other.

I read about the radiation dumping in the quarry. Must have been worrying for the local residents.Especially building new houses so close by currently.

@@WobblyRunner I remember that there was a lot of coverage in the local press back in the 1980's when it became common knowledge what was being dumped there. So far as I am aware it was all low level waste, you would probably get more exposure from having an Xray than walking on top of the dump, it's just as soon as you mention the word radioactive people think of some of the more nasty stuff about however that is very strictly and carefully controlled

It's railmaponline, with historic tramway, industry and all the layers selected.

Take a look at Ticknall Tramway. Amazing walk, old bridge over road and long tunnels fully acceptable. Worth visit
