A friend dropped off an A-body Barracuda trunk lid with similar rust damage for me to practice on. This video will be really helpful as I attempt to repair it. Not sure I want to do a great job though, because he has several vintage cars that need rust repair and I suspect offering me the trunk lid for practice is a trap! I’ll end up having to fix all his cars before doing my own!
Thanks again Fitz for all you do to share your skills . I can now make repairs and recreate things I never thought possible before thanks to your many videos Just in the past couple years I have improved dramatically and my confidence level has soared. The more of your videos I watch and the more rust repairs I attempt to make on my fleet of old junk the better and easier it gets.
What I like so much about your channel Tony is that you only use simple tools and you still manage to get the job done. Where as other folks have thousands upon thousands of dollar's invested in tools and they still can't do what I've seen you do. That's what makes your channel so popular in my eyes. So keep up the Good Work bye...your tips and tricks are great.
That was a good tip on the use of the overlap at the radius corner. Thx. Just received my fitzee fab t-shirt. I am not going to put it on when I watch ur videos....I ain't that weird.
Not only do you make it look easy, you explain it in such a way as us diyer’s can understand it and be confident trying it ourselves. You’re an inspiration to say the least 👍🏻 Keep up the great work!
Thank you Tony. Thank you for uploading in 1080p. Such a small thing makes your videos even more enjoyable to watch. I love seeing the detail in your work. I'm already excited to see the next video.
Thank You fitzee, for all your tutoring . You are a very good instructor. I took auto body back in high school, in 71-72. its changed a lot since then.
I wish your channel was around in the 90s when i did lots of rust repair. It took years to learn from mistakes. My wife laughs when i tell her what your next step will be as you do it.
This is so cool. I'm self taught at auto body repair without any formal training or even using youtube except for a little about how to weld, and almost everything he does is what I figured out just by trial and error. In reality I believe it was God showing me what to do next.
Fox body Mustang, now you're speaking my language. I've got a 92 GT sitting in my driveway. Planning to daily it this summer. The hatch is good, from the outside...
Exactly! I do what i do, watch my videos and make suggestions, i take them with a grain of salt. Same as i suggest on other builders vids. Theres lots of great ideas out there! Thats why i keeo coming back Chad!
That was awesome, I know what welding thin and rusty metal is like and it's not the easiest thing to deal with, great work Tony and great save on the Ole trunk lid
Now you have a "as good as new" trunk lid, which is yet another step towards completion of the Corolla. That was a very clever and sensible way that you repaired that trunk lid, making sure that you kept it within specifications. Time to paint it and put it on the car!
Fitzee, you are a fu#*ing genius and your work is amazing, your hands on tutorials are so helpful and you make it very easy to understand. Thank you for sharing all of your years of experience and knowledge Im truly grateful for all of your great videos.
Geez what a great resource all those old cabinets and shelves and lockers and stuff you picked up. I always try go pick up stuff like that when people are throwing it away too, u just never know what u could use it for and then u ain’t gotta go buy metal 👍
This project reminds me of one of the clothes patterns made of paper from the 70's, cause this car has merely been a pattern for one. Awesome 👌 job! You are a master.
You make this stuff look so easy. You explain it well to where us DIYer's can understand. I welded in my very first patch panel on my 78 F-150 two days ago thanks to watching your videos. Appreciate all that you do to help others learn what they need to do to work on their own projects. 👍
This is awesome, following both channels means we get more Fitzee. I'm getting anxious though, I really can't wait to see this thing racing down the 1/4 mile. It's also gonna look damn good
I have a small "Hobby" blaster - holds about 50kg of blast media (I use crushed glass) - I feed it air from my petrol compressor because it murders my electric compressor - it blasts waaay more gently than a proper indiustrial blaster but it blasts real nice - close to zero heat, whips off paint & rust in a quick pass & gets into every nook & cranny. I despise running it because the grit gets into every nook & cranny of me as well - but damn it's great for stuff like this ^^. I repair rust for a living - that ^^ is my daily work. I doubt people realise just how much time goes into running one pass of weld across a full hood/trunk width.. or how long it takes to grind them welds. I usually have some lid/bonnet that is Unobtainium sitting in front of me - I repair them the same way you do, exact same technique - which is why I love your Channel, Fitz - it's the proper nitty gritty.
That is such a neat job. Those 'factory fresh' corners are so satisfying. Thank you for the effort that goes into these epic videos Tony, they are greatly appreciated. Thank you for the dolly tip, I'm just about to do a door skin!
I like to do a bit of an overlap weld a lot of times when I’m working on thin stuff, it’s just easier than burning through constantly and chasing holes. After watching u so much I find myself thinking….ok, don’t overthink this, what would Tony do? 😂
Fantastic lessons, Fitz. I need a good vice. ...bigger than a 4-1/2" and a 6". Having trouble making bends in mine. The prices for a decent bench vice are outrageous but I think a vice will be cheaper than a brake. Decisions, decisions.
Thanks, Tony. Thank you for sharing your skill and the various tips you include in each video - they are priceless. Plus - thanks for the time you take editing these videos - you do a great job making these fun to watch.
I stumbled onto your channel just looking for some tips how to repair some rust on my 73 Mazda down here in Australia, I'm a mechanic so I can fix the parts that make it go, but I am no bodywork man. But after a few of your videos, I'm ready to give it a shot. And would you believe, the weekend just gone, I noticed my bootlid has some rust bubbles starting to appear along the lip, so I'll add that to the list. Thanks Fitzee, you make it easy for even people like me to understand what I should be doing.
Just curious, I've seen you do the edge fold over with yard stick several times. My question is doesn't all that banging on metal yard stick stretch it ? Now you end up with a yard and a 1/16th yard stick.😊 Lol another great learning video tks Tony
Fitzee should do a user review with the Eastwood contour sct to remove the paint off of a car panel, and compare it to his methods of removing paint. I feel he would give us an honest assessment of how well that thing works.
Hi Fitzee, We love your channel, your work is the very best of the best...! every time you fix or make panels they always look exactly like the original factory panels when you're finished with them, your work is amazing...! thank you for sharing, thanks for having a youtube channel. From your friends here in Lima Peru George & my wife Carmen
Funny thing is, cars today still have the problem of lower panel lips rusting out. Its all the salt and liquid salt thats put on the roads that gets in there and eats it away. If you put used motor oil/ fluid film, trans fluid, or anything like that inside the panels, they will never rust out.
Yes sir, Tony.. that brought me back to the 70s and 80s when I was doing this for a living. Great work, as usual! I sure wish I would have had a MIG back then. Stick weld (an old Lincoln AC-225) and Oxy/Acet made for a lot of work but we got the jobs done. Nice to see Peanut gave her rub-of-approval to the seat. ;)
You do such incredible work, and you explain the process very well. Thank you so much for bringing us all along for the progress. Your knowledge is awesome, and I am looking forward to applying it.
Another great vidoe i have something very similiar on a trunk but mine wraps around the corner that fitz cut at a 45 so more of the corner is needed may have to do those in 2 pieces but thanks again fitzee
Yep Kirker still sells the BUFF (yeller) 2K primer it's actually not bad. On guy did the Buff 2K primer then sprayed on spray guide-coat (misted) then cleared it I saw his car in Nebraska it didn't look bad !!
Hi Tony. Another nice repair! I know its not magic fixing up those old, rusty panels but sometimes it seems like it is. It is literally, as good as new. Thanks for the video!
God bless ya Fitzee, you're the only man I've ever seen run their thumb across glowing red metal to check for flush
I just watched it happen and it's still magic
Thanks Fitzee for your time you put in
The king of explaining intricate metal fab details... Thank you Fitzee! 🍺

The tips are always good, Mr. Tony. Thank you for documenting all of your efforts. You are raising the collective knowledge of all of us home diy'ers.
What I like so much about your channel Tony is that you only use simple tools and you still manage to get the job done. That old vice of yours is a beast !
They don’t make them like that anymore ! 👍
Good thing is the corner of that door is now hardened! Drop proof now!! As always, I've learned something... Love these videos. Thank you
Another Beautiful job Fitzee. Crusty is going to be brand new. Have a wonderful day. 👍
I am working on sheet metal on my Ranchero and I am learning a lot from Fitzee's videos, so I thank him for that
Lost count of how many of your videos I've watched. Still learning from you 🙂
That was a good tip on the use of the overlap at the radius corner. Thx. Just received my fitzee fab t-shirt. I am not going to put it on when I watch ur videos....I ain't that weird.

Man, always nice work! I really wish you were closer. My 62 C10 is taking forever on my own, haha.
Thank You fitzee, for all your tutoring . You are a very good instructor. I took auto body back in high school, in 71-72. its changed a lot since then.
That free-hand corner was subtle showing-off. :-)* Simple, if you have good hands and 30 years' experience.
You truthfully earn your thumbs up great work.
I wish your channel was around in the 90s when i did lots of rust repair. It took years to learn from mistakes. My wife laughs when i tell her what your next step will be as you do it.
Awesome repair on a piece that many would have trashed, you are an artist Fitzee!
This is so cool. I'm self taught at auto body repair without any formal training or even using youtube except for a little about how to weld, and almost everything he does is what I figured out just by trial and error. In reality I believe it was God showing me what to do next.
You made it look like it was factory made. Great Job with great tips.

Try it with flux core wire, youll lose your mind.
I love watching with working metal I have learned a lot keep it up

I love the way you break it down in steps….
I’ve got a leading edge of a 69 firebird hood and trailing edge of deck lid to rust repair. Thanks for ideas 👍!
A real pleasure watching and learning from you. Thanks.
Geez what a great resource all those old cabinets and shelves and lockers and stuff you picked up. I always try go pick up stuff like that when people are throwing it away too, u just never know what u could use it for and then u ain’t gotta go buy metal 👍
Nice work again Fizee , it’s great to watch. Well done!!
Fitzee, thanks for sharing your work. I have a 69 Dodge Coronet with a BAD trunk lid. You helped a lot!
This project reminds me of one of the clothes patterns made of paper from the 70's, cause this car has merely been a pattern for one. Awesome 👌 job! You are a master.
Hard to explain why your videos are so interesting, but they are truly special

Loving these. Have all the same stuff going on with me e30. Thankfully on a smaller scale, but these trunk videos have been a game changer.
Great job as always Tony, but maybe those metric measures should be left for the Flip Side😆
It’s in the fingers… it’s in the blood… Fitzee‘s got metal 🪄 magic!!!
This is awesome, following both channels means we get more Fitzee. I'm getting anxious though, I really can't wait to see this thing racing down the 1/4 mile. It's also gonna look damn good

Frizzy. Your the man. Mad skills. I love your work.
Those drain holes help for a few years, but after that you need cavity wax. Great job, Fitz!
That is such a neat job. Those 'factory fresh' corners are so satisfying. Thank you for the effort that goes into these epic videos Tony, they are greatly appreciated. Thank you for the dolly tip, I'm just about to do a door skin!
I really liked the dollying tip.
Another great information pack video Tony. Awesome!
Brother, you are a great teacher!
I like to do a bit of an overlap weld a lot of times when I’m working on thin stuff, it’s just easier than burning through constantly and chasing holes. After watching u so much I find myself thinking….ok, don’t overthink this, what would Tony do? 😂
Very nice job Tony and a good tip with the Hammer and dole with your Fingers
Tony, you always do such amazing beautiful work!
Fantastic lessons, Fitz. I need a good vice. ...bigger than a 4-1/2" and a 6". Having trouble making bends in mine. The prices for a decent bench vice are outrageous but I think a vice will be cheaper than a brake. Decisions, decisions.
Good work as usual Tony! Keep em coming bye😊 JR
Thanks, Tony. Thank you for sharing your skill and the various tips you include in each video - they are priceless. Plus - thanks for the time you take editing these videos - you do a great job making these fun to watch.
Excellent tip on the dolly work, thanks.
Nice as usual, but I love how you did the inside welds on the corners. It so original.
Thanks for the video. The trunk lid on my Camaro has a very similar rust issues. Cheers!

The more you practice the better you get Tony! I have about a dozen trunk lids and hoods I can save now 😂
I love when closed caption on the preview screen interprets Fitzee
Awesome work! You make it look too easy! Experience shows!!
Amazing work, I love it, keep up the good job. Thanks
Great job as usual. I just can tell you now that Canadian Tire doesn't have a trunk lid in stock for Crusty.
I must say that you are very good at what you do .🙂
Great tutorial!! Yeah, I learned the hard way when I replaced a trunk floor. I wished I had seen this before that but now I know!
you make it all look too easy, great stuff as usual....no reason for the home handy man not to tackle these jobs now
42 minutes in and the inside is nicely finished, but I have a few things to do, so I'll be back tomorrow to see the outside getting done.
Just curious, I've seen you do the edge fold over with yard stick several times. My question is doesn't all that banging on metal yard stick stretch it ? Now you end up with a yard and a 1/16th yard stick.😊 Lol another great learning video tks Tony
Lol. I don't use that yard stick for measurements. It's the lips folder over shaper and the remote for the radio! Lol
Thanks Sir for the great content.always learning through your vids, keep up with the good work
Cracking video there Fitz ,learned a lot of tricks .
Yeah i’ve got an 86 Gt mustang the lid needs work and it’s rusted bad. Great video to help me repair it.
Never a dull or boring video!! AND always learn something new with each new video!! Fantastic work sir!
You make it look easy. A true master of your craft.
Amazed as usual. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I learn something every time.
Thanks FItzee!
Your videos are so informative. I am hooked on watching them. I have been able to put so many of your tips into practice. Thank you
Good tips- I have to do this to the trim l lid and the hood on my Oldsmobile. I appreciate the how to advice
Fitzee should do a user review with the Eastwood contour sct to remove the paint off of a car panel, and compare it to his methods of removing paint. I feel he would give us an honest assessment of how well that thing works.
I never used one. Be interesting to try.
Always worth watching thanks for sharing.
You sir are a great metal fabricator and your wish we had some one like you in my area
Top notch again there Tony
I've learned so much from watching you and your technique.
Thank you Sir!!!
That turned out great Tony. It's amazing what can be accomplished with minimal tools.
Hi Fitzee,

Unbelievable job Fitzy makes it fitz
