    This is great! I have always wanted to try astrophotography but have been worried that you need a lot of equipment to be able to take a good shot. Watching this video has opened my eyes as to what is possible with minimal gear and what you need if you are going to take pictures of deep sky objects. Learning not just about the EOS Ra but also how to capture the night sky generally is what makes this video truly amazing. Love the visuals and I am definitely going to take a trip to Calar Alto soon!

      Buddy you can do literally everything that he said in this video with a standard dslr or slr. heck you can even photograph the milkyway with your phone. the quality is of course not as great.
      all I can say is, you dont nead the eosra for doing astrophotgraphy. I started out with my ten year old Nikon D3100 with it's kit lens and was able to shoot the milkyway galaxy. what the eosra does better than your standard dslrs are, that it doesn't have the infrared filter (which you can by the way remove from any camera) that lets you see fainter obejcts that are in only visible in the infrared specturm.
      what I wanna say is, dont buy the eosra if you want to do astrophotography, start out with the camera and lens you have,

      The EOS Ra is a fucking scam. In this video they were idiotic enough to showcase a broadband target (Andromeda) which doesn't require a camera sensitive to hydrogen-alpha light - which is the whole point of EOS Ra. For the price of this stupid camera you could almost buy an entire astrophotography setup with a proper GoTo equatorial mount and telescope. The camera lens used in this video is also TWELVE THOUSAND fucking dollars. You can buy a comparable telescope that will give better image quality for $800 USD (AT80EDT) and it has a longer focal length.
      This entire video is so incredibly stupid, $2500 camera + $12000 camera lens???

    Canon is used mostly by us astrophotographers. I use a modified 600D myself. When the Ra was announced there was a few people in the community scratching their heads by this product. Though the more I think about it, the more I kind of get excited by it and want to try it myself one day.

    When it comes to nebula like Great Orion Nebula that you imaged, it's not about "4 times more infrared light" like you mentioned, but rather more H-Alpha (hydrogen, 656nm) line that is not blocked by IR-block filter of stock normal Canon.

    • @Matt_10203
      @Matt_10203 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. More infrared wouldnt be better since infrared is normally cut out due to it coming through the scope or lens unfocused.

  • @xe1zlgg
    @xe1zlgg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The great advantage is on H alpha for the EOS Ra... H alpha wavelength is before the infrared light and is the strongest emission in emission nebula.... indeed infrared ligth is not well allowed because in many optical systems infrared light is not well focused as visible wavelengths causing bloated stars. Nice video.

  • @Xcron
    @Xcron 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would love to get my hands on this camera, currently running an 80D as I learn more about photography and slowly get into the field of astrophotography. My biggest question is how this camera, for such a large investment, handles regular photography scenarios with the heightened Ha sensitivity? Does it show on regular photos? Is it detrimental to non-astrophotography?

    • @CanonEurope
      @CanonEurope  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @Xcron, the Canon EOS Ra can be used like an ordinary camera. However, as a consequence of its higher sensitivity to some infrared frequencies, some colours will look strange as it will capture colours in flowers and some man-made fibres, for example, that the unaided eye doesn't detect. Learn more about the EOS Ra's advanced features with our Canon astro photography expert Matteo La Torre: www.canon-europe.com/pro/stories/how-eos-ra-supercharges-astrophotography/

    • @Xcron
      @Xcron 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CanonEurope Okay, so it's not entirely recommended, as the extra income of red can throw off the natural colour balance a bit.
      Thank you very much.

      Glad you enjoyed the video :). Very good question. The EOS Ra and the EOS R do share similar specs, however, the EOS Ra has a modified infrared sensor, so that you can bring out the reddish colour in Nebula. For astrophotography, it means the EOS Ra sensor will perform better than the EOS R.

    • @MrSameerMalik1

      Depends on how your ISO-variant your camera is.. it sounds counter intuitive but it can actually give a better signal to noise ratio by pushing the ISO higher instead of shooting at lower ISO and boosting brightness later.. the higher ISO shot can give you less noise. Depends on the camera and the ISOs

    I hope the sensor is better than the one in my 5D mk IV

      The 5D IV can do well at astrophotography providing that you implement long exposure noise reduction. I was having a green-banding problem until I did this. Exposures do take twice as long though.
