  • Hike to an historic fire lookout with panoramic views of Mount Baker and the rest of the North Cascades. Built in 1932, it's one of the few remaining intact lookout in WA state. At 5,450 ft elevation, feast on spectacular views as far as the eye can see. Directly north are the Black Buttes, Lincoln and Colfax. To the southwest are the Twin Sisters and the Nooksack River Valley.
Easy to navigate well maintained trail, the route offers dedicated campsites. Camping is also available at the fire lookout on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a beautiful trek, with lots of multi directional views and sweet solitude at the top. Truly, one of the best hikes near Mount Baker.

Great video, AlRose. Do you know if this hiking trail is open in January? Would it be possible to do this for a day trip? I will be coming from Vancouver, BC.

It looks like its still accessible based on the WTA hike report by a hiker six days ago. Bare in mind that the route to Park Butte involves crossing a seasonal bridge which is removed annually from early fall to spring. Also, the weather today might have changed dramatically from last week. Anyway, I suggest that you read that latest hike report at the Washington Trail Association website and weigh your decision from there. Thank you so much for watching and enjoying our video. Be safe, be aware of the weather forecast and conditions, and happy trails!

@@alrosewanderquest Oh wow, is the route to Park Butte no longer possible if the seasonal bridge has been removed since it is January right now?
