Everyone has their own image of what they want their career to be
    Some collab with males
    Some don't
    Some collab a lot

Anyone who has watched Kanata for any sort of time knows this is how she feels and i respect her ideals.
She isn't doing this because cover goes BOOO NO CROSS COLLABS
She's doing this because as she said, it's her view of idols and her ideals.
    We should respect it

I don't know if she explained her ideals nor even can understand that... I always think it's something about the culture and the idea of idols that they have in their mind, which already hurt a lot of people enough but it doesn't stop.
Kanata is not responsible for this, of course not. But i think the idea of what an idol is, should change, not immediately, but in a slow pace.
And again, this is not a task that she should do, nor necessarily she has to do, is more on the company side

Miko has been around longer than most Holomem, but no one has called her toxic when she also refuses to collab with men.
As for me, "okay. If that's what you want." Insisting that her refusal to collab with men is detrimental to Holostars's growth is implying Holostars can't grow without Hololive. As a long time fan I just want to say this. Kanata has always had very strong feelings. It's definitely not about money or fear of backlash, or even "girlfriend experience". It's genuine love. Two things I want to share: She spent millions of her own yen on the Agape original song and animation, a song about about the higher love, higher than filial love or eros. That is the feeling she wants to express between her and her fans, agape. And secondly the point in the debut 3D live where she sings SSS. Seriously go watch it again. It SHOCKED me when I saw it live. It's heartwrenching. She's just crying trying to say words that won't come out, choking up the whole time. That's her idol passion.

Feeling bad because of it she panicked and leaked the info to the drama guy, breaking NDA and yada yada. That's what I meant, she didn't handle the backlash well and because of it she handled things badly. The backlash was that bad (I still remember photos on twitter of people burning posters of her, saying they were betrayed) because she incentivized people to feel like she was some kind of internet gf. That may be a small portion of the fanbase but time and time again we've seen those people are the most vocal and do the most damage (the 100 good comments vs. 1 hate comment thing). It's completely fine if they don't want to, they have their own reasons (such as Noel not wanting to because she doesn't want to upset her fans and whatever else she said I don't remember). But at the same time, this separation of the Stars from the Livers when they were introduced has done more harm than good. Take the Hololive EN girls that collabed with Tempus, there was a lot of backlash for both parties. She made her stance clear, and while I think this ideal idol she thinks of is a toxic concept, I also have enough respect to not push my ideals onto someone else. She clearly stated a reason why she won't collab with males, and anyone trying to change her mind even if they agree with me that "pure idols" are toxic are in the wrong. People can be reasonable without you instantly saying that if they disagree they should look elsewhere. I like Kanata even if I barely watch her nowadays, but you literally telling me that if I dont share her same opinion I should go elsewhere is just as tribalistic as the asshats who push for co-op collabs.

I respect Kanata and would like her to do her own thing and achieve her own dreams but that doesn't mean I'm going to trash the opposite side that pushes for co-ed stuff; collab beggars are annoying but hypocrites that use their oshi as an excuse to start a fire and point hate towards holostars are way worse. You could say collab beggars hate Kanata's ideals and you see some active haters, but then again it goes either way and those of us that like co-ed stuff see those that want to support the idol dream by abolishing any male talent within a 5 meter radius and straight up defaming the talents that do collab with males by stating stuff like they betrayed their fans.
no need to bring niji into this, its a holo problem because some rude bastards actively go out of their way to harass talents. an example is Calli's infamous anti named Zoki that is also actively targeting all of EN (tempus, councilrys, myth)

For a lot of people, it's not so much about watching idols as it is about watching an anime like K-On. Even Miko has literally said she loves being in Hololive because it feels like she's going to an all girls highschool every day. Targeting the CGDCT market has also been extremely lucrative for Hololive. All these new changes like "holopro" and new viewers begging for collabs are putting the girls in an awkward spor every time it comes up because most of them are 100% fine with things remaining where they are now.

Again, more power to Kanata and those who would aspire to that ideal, but I'm glad it's becoming less common. My saying this is not going to make a lick of difference in the grand scheme of things though.

@@charlesqbanks Like you said, SOME Japanese do, but they're an unbelievably small minority in Japan, and so their views don't matter much when talking about cultural norms. There will ALWAYS be a minority of people that agree with every societal norm. This expectation of never speaking to men does not extend to normal women, the word idol exists for a reason, they're a symbol as much as they are a person. They choose to live that life too, it's not like they were forced to be Idols.

If it was truly about talent freedom these "people" wouldn't constantly be in the superchats or comments of girls who do CGDCT begging for collabs or showing up to vids like this to seethe, they'd be peacefully watching their male collabs elsewhere.

I mean... kanata isnt doing it for that reason though? Kanata is one of the least parasocial Hololive members. I find it weird that this is your takeaway in all this. Also wanting the girls not to collab with guys and being parasocial arent even linked UNLESS you get jealous about that, which... yeah that's bad. Maybe you aren't quite aware of what these terms truly entail?
I personally dont enjoy mixed collabs much and am glad Kanata sticks to girls only collabs, but it's because I don't enjoy the dynamics between guys and girls very much. Everyone has their own preferences and that's cool. Even I make exceptions sometimes when I watch Nijisanji or some of Towa's Apex streams. It just leads down a bad road when you start to believe the streamer is your personal friend or flirting with you or "impure" if she does interact with men.

That's toxic AF. If people generally speaking were decent enough to take that as just her opinion, that'd be fine, but people make an expectation out of that about idol culture and go out of their way to tar and feather idols who fall short of that ideal. People legit go into super hate/anti mode b/c a woman did a collab with a man, and saying that this is "ideal" reinforces that. Absolutely not.

I'll put my 2 cents in. This post is a little long. Also, I respect her decisions in what she wants to do. I want her to do what she wants and to decide who she wants to hang out with. If that is the professional image she wants to create for herself, more power to her. I might not fully agree with the vision, which is fine.
TLDR: I want people to associate with whomever they want as their own personal choice and not dictated by the crowd or company.
    Talking about idol culture broadly:
When it comes to the idol culture, people seem to have their own ideal in what an idol should be and who to associate with. I personally think an idol should associate with whomever they want and be more treated similar to normal musicians and comedians, etc... I suppose I just don't like that one aspect of Japanese otaku pop culture. The way people scrutinize idol for talking to guys who aren't just doing fan signings.
I suppose I've even seen people in western country lose there shit when their favorite artist also started dating someone else, but it feels more extreme in Japanese otaku culture. If a persons ideal is not letting another person associate with the opposite sex then I assume the fan likes the idea of "sharing not touching" the idol with other fans and has this sort of weird parasocial connection. Which I might just never fully understand. Since I never fell that deep in that rabbit hole.
I've only seen the surface area with occasional pits here and there.
Side note: some might say they are selling a lie or fiction. In which case I see that as actors. The person who has issues with them not being in character 24/7. Need to wake up and realize that it is fiction. They are real people who have emotions and thoughts. Some want to have a personal life behind the character. It's fine to divulge in the lie, but in the end, it is a lie, if you want to follow someone who sells you that lie by all means go for it. I just wonder how long they are able to hold that image.
At the end of the day, these words are just opinions that people can criticize. To say there is an ideal way to go about how things should be, I wouldn't know. I'm not an arbitrator of the culture. I'm just some random 20 something year old dude in a comment section. :p

You realize fans are part of the culture right? Yes, idol culture is toxic because those fans are allowed free roam. Idol culture tells those fans to be that way. It’s not immediate nor will it change immediately but it’s a long process over years that keep it that way. And one person realizing just how bad it is at a time is how it changes. When idols can be human and not be afraid of being roasted alive by their own “fanbase” is when idol culture isn’t toxic. Til then, here we are.
