- In this tutorial you’ll learn 3 very simple arpeggio shapes to create some very interesting and sophisticated sounds that you can use in Jazz, Fusion and Rock improvisations and compositions.
The 3 shapes are based upon the Maj7, Maj7b5 or Maj7#11 and Maj7#5 arpeggio. Using them in the right way will enable you to play modal instantly. From simple major and minor sound to modes of the major scale (dorian, phrygian, lydian, mixolydian and Locrian) to the beautiful modes of the melodic minor scale like Lydian augmented and Lydian dominant.

At 6:20 you have an F natural labelled as an F# on the 3rd string, which is mixolydian.
It should be an F# in the 4th position, since it's G major.

Really really really good lesson. The way you demonstrate the different sound based upon the context of the chord being played behind the arpeggio is fantastic. It really lends itself to viewing music as a language and not just thinking of it as notes which I think is something that is lost on most lessons on the internet.

❣ I took the red pill, and I must say that I dug it. Cross referencing the fretboard patterns to the interval patterns made this complex modal and melodic chordal arpeggiation crystal clear. Now there's work to be done. "Fascinating!" -Spock..

So over my head, but helpful none the less. Comprehension I can only dream of!
I started learning guitar in my 50's l I jumped into the deep end fiest then in the last year , I analyzed my learning I had more holes in it then swiss cheese, I completely by- passed Caged Chords Appregios now I have been focusing on these items, I find its really helping me developing my understanding of chords and chord progression, this a great lesson , the quality is brilliant thanks!

I have been viewing your videos for about 6 months now. I've been playing for 2 years after a 35 year hiatus, and basically starting from scratch. I love your channel, but It's been like learning Portuguese from a Greek radio station. But I have to say I'm betting better being forced to try to make sense more advanced lessons. Today's lesson I actually got 80% of it. Wow, I think I can actually order lunch in Portuguese now. Thanks, I'm getting there.

This is a fantastic lesson. One of the biggest issues in learning guitar in my opinion is the focus is never on the SOUND of a scale relative to the chord. I would have done so many things differently if I had hindsight when I started playing at 7 years old.

Always remember Your ROOT Note/Chord, or key of the Pattern/Arpeggio;
for your resolutions.
Combining these shapes with root note locations on the neck will speed up my learning of note locations, while at the same time provide much food for thought in learning theory. The versatility of these one-octave shapes or arpeggios, and even one-octave scales like pentatonics and blues, "octavated" across the neck, eliminates a lot of tedium and boredom. In addition to that, the expansion of my knowledge of the various degree locations related to the roots will help in other ways, such as modal soloing and related chord constructions. I like that new word "octavate". LOL

Me too bruh. This relatively short video managed to expand a range of emotions that I thought would be automatic when selecting scales, but I had a lot of frustration trying it that way.

“Prelude” from Final Fantasy (Nobuo Uematsu) is a fun one to play if you have a seven-string guitar. I’m sure it can be played on other guitars, but I like the tone that the seventh string sounds.

Love that clean sound playing, it is like using your camera on M-setting, you really test your skills. Then you hit the pedal on auto. As a beginning beginner, you are speaking Greek to me. But there's the challenge.

Great conceptual way to implement the chord tones. Would you mind making a video explaining how we can implement the same pattern but with a minor third instead? I’m hoping to unlock some mean harmonic minor concepts expectedly.
