your DNFs give me life! makes me feel less guilty lol even 5 mins into an audio or pages into a book I'm like... nope not doing it ... still waiting for that patreon also lollol

DNFing is the only thing saving my reading right now so I am soooo pro-DNFing lol.
I'm really excited to eventually make a Patreon, but I'll probably wait until 4k-5k subs. It'll probably be awhile sadly.

Please don’t feel bad about dnfing! This is such a big commitment, I can’t imagine struggling through multiple long terrible books every month!
I think I will give What the Forest Took to my 13 year old. Sounds like something he would enjoy.

Yes! I would say What the Woods Took is pretty good for like older middle grade. It is a little scary, but it's something I would read at 13.

I’m so excited with this series!! Im joining you on this journey :)
Also I was wondering how you got this video out so early in the month. Now after watching I see why, haha. I’m halfway thru the courting of Bristol Keats and struggling. I was going to read a language of dragons next but not looking forward to it after watching this video. I read heavenly bodies in 2023 and really didn’t like it but skimmed it to get thru it. DNFing is hard when you spend special edition money haha.

Yeah I was expecting this to be the end of the month and then yeah.... It seems like everyone is having the same opinions of the books that I had which is so sad that so many spent so much money on the editions. I hope you end up liking A Language of Dragons! I've seen a lot of people who are loving it.

100% agree about Teller of Small Fortunes. Found family didn’t work for me and it couldn’t decide on the actual stakes/mission chapter to chapter.
I also DNF’d A Language of Dragons - you made it farther than I did! I hated the main character too early on and couldn’t continue.
Haven’t started Bristol Keats - a little scared after seeing all the reviews and I keep putting it further down the TBR list (also have two copies sadly).
I DNF’d Heavenly Bodies too and am so mad because it is so pretty! There was little to no world-building and no character development, and I got halfway through before giving up.
For February I am skipping OC YA because of the TW and the ARC reviews. Also skipped Illumicrate and FL Adult for same reasons as you. Mostly likely skipping FL Romantasy too.
I’m curious if you bought tickets for any of the Quarterly OC subscriptions? Or if you are going to subscribe to Illumicrate Starbright?

So we basically are twins is what I'm reading. 🤣
I'm skipping the OC YA too. I'm not interested in that book AT ALL.
So I did get the invite to join Starbright, but I'm not taking it after how much I've hated their Sci-Fi picks. I'll buy a copy second hand if I really want them. I do have a ticket for both the horror Owlcrate and Sci-Fi Owlcrate. I'm also trying to get Illumicrate Afterlight (since I do like their romance picks) so I'm on that waitlist.

I've been keeping track of what ratings I give to my book box books (and any book I read that was picked by a book box) and if the average rating for the box is below 3.5 then I cancel it / read a sample before buying second hand

That is literally amazing. That's kind of my goal for the end of 2025 and then I'll start making big cuts. I'm skipping a lot more this year, so hoping my average goes up.

I almost got teller of small fortunes in my BOTM and I’m glad I didn’t. It sounds too low stakes for my taste.

Thank you for the very dramatic video. Have you considered stand-up-book-comedy? But. Now I want to go cancel all my bookbox subscriptions and olny read "ugly" books! 😀 Poorly edited books give me the rabies.

I just finished Language of Dragons this week, kind of regret it. Rated it 3.5 stars and the longer I sit on it the lower it goes in my brain. It just makes me angry for all of the reasons you discussed. And it got worse by the end!

Same! I was enjoying the book and the idea around languages of the dragons, the second half of the book completely lost me. I was actually talking out loud to the fmc like make up your mind girl! lol I ended up skimming the last 3 chapters just to get it over with. 3.5 ⭐️ for me.

That's kind of what I keep hearing. I didn't hate the beginning, but the longer it went on, the more I disliked it. I'm soooo happy I didn't finish it based on how much everyone disliked the ending

I'm sad the Owlcrate version of Teller of Small Fortunes was misprinted like that. I think they got all the copies misprinted, because I've seen people sharing that they don't have any correctly printed replacements.
    ---
Yeah, I get the struggle with dark hair. I just use a regular (hair razor? 🪒 I think that's the word). I also need to shave between my brows cuz they almost touch :/
    ---
As for the Teller of Small Fortunes, the way you talked about it in the first clip reminds me of "Psalm for the Wild Built", have you read that one? It's also traveling around, but the book is really short and worldbuilding really interesting. I wonder if the Teller will be really that similar. I still haven't started it (also, have you seen the regular hardcover? There is a cute kitty on it).
    ---
I like the mental image of a dragon working in a bank.
Sounds like the author did a bunch of research and wanted to share everything they learned in a single book. Wdym a whole chapter on echo location? You could explain that in a secntence or two. Maybe a whole paragraph if you go into detail 😂
    ---
I'm skipping Owlcrate February YA because of the animal abuse plot + I don't care about any fandoms. I mean I don't really mind reading about that, but I feel it's kinda wrong to push a book like that in a YA subscribtion.
    ---
Btw, in case you see the multiple edits: I'm watching on the train and I just don't want to lose the whole comment because of a bad connection.

I love the original cover for Teller! It is so adorable. I haven't read Psalm yet, but it is on my list. Very low down on my list.
I'm also skipping the Owl YA book. I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea to include that book. It was such a bad decision because I've only seen people say they're skipping it
