      My neighbor bought a 2-70 new in late '78 with a loader. Tractor has a lot of hrs on it, when he put a clutch in the last time, he had the engine rebuilt. According to the shop it didn't need much, being the main workhorse it got it anyway. Maybe the engine will be good for another 40 years.

      When I restored my 1650, it had a bent clutch finger and a bent connecting rod. Other than a little vibration and the occasional fouled spark plug, you'd never know it had anything wrong. Great tractors that will be earning their keep for years to come.

    Enjoyed the video Chris. I like the bluegrass song Rueben that you play when putting the engine back in. Some trivia. Earl Scruggs famous banjo player grew up about 30 miles south of me. He learned the "three finger" picking style known world wide as Scruggs style picking while messing with his banjo at a young age in the living room of his parents house playing this song. He said I noticed I had this "roll" going with my fingers. It just came to me. The rest is history!

      Interesting. TH-cam has that song in their library of royalty free music under "Reuben's Train" by Nat Keefe and the Bow Ties. I'm guess Scruggs was their inspiration. I like its tempo for the time lapse portions of videos.

    My dad put a Heavy duty clutch in our 66, because it was our loader tractor. As a kid, it was all we could do to depress the clutch. One day we were making fence, and I was going up a hill, and dad yelled something, so I stopped to hear better. He was yelling to not stop the tractor on that hill!.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stopping might have been easier than getting going again! That reminds me of when my dad got me going on cultivating for the first time. He said that when I get to the big hill, don't put it in under drive. I didn't hear the don't and found out the why by the bottom of the hill!

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris Been and done that. reminds me of my brother, when he was young, and first operating a tractor. He only knew, that pushing in the clutch stops the tractor. Unfortunately, he was pulling a hay wagon out in our hilly pasture. Dad and I were tossing hay to the cattle. The tractor started going too fast down the hill, so he pushed in the clutch. It went faster, so he dumped the clutch. Rinse and repeat. Dad was scrambling to get to the tractor, while I was just trying to stay on the wagon. Humorous now, but dangerous then.

I knew a farmer who had a Row Crop 66, a newer model bought around mid to late 50's and a Hart Par, that we used on a gravel bed wagon in the Spring to rework the lane going to the back of the farm. All we knew was that there was work to be done... and us to do it. I've had too many jobs in my life "I'm 77" where I would look back at the end the day and wonder what I did. I never felt that way when I worked on a farm. My last farm was from '82 to '87. I worked in a factory on 2nd shift in Hamilton, Ohio and on a farm days in Andersonville, Indiana. I would get about 4 to 5 hours of sleep and head to the farm. I told the man I didn't want his money. I just wanted to do what I could to help. I loved it.

    It has been an interesting couple of weeks. I think I hurt my 1850. We were on the last bag for third cutting knowing we will have some leftover space so we decided to start corn silage right away. The corn fields were wet so took the Deutz 100 06 off the bagger since it is MFWD to pull wagons through mud and stuck the 1850 on the bagger. Well apparently my Deutz has more pto power because that 1850 was having a hard time it was at night and we were almost done for the day so I let her snort. Saw flame out the muffler more than once and the next day tried to start it and cranked for one second and it stopped turning. Pulled it off the bagger and swapped in my Massey Ferguson 1100. After my brother got it to start normal once but bad after that. On a side note for having "the same engine" the 1100 massey and the 1850 don't feel the same much at all.

      @@ThatOliverGuyChris Don't know yet about halfway through corn silage my main chopper broke and to fix it we bought whole other chopper to take two parts off of it to fix mine. We also have a lot of equipment and bought a 1950 early this year so my brother doesn't see a need to keep it. Me on the other hand wants to keep the 1850 to use because the 1950 is a little too nice condition to use for some tasks on a dairy farm like right now we are hauling manure on to the chopped corn fields before tilling and planting winter wheat.

    You should have used a rattle can to paint the places that were not able to be painted with the engine out. Another thing that bothers me is that the base weight is painted the same color as the tractor. They should be clover white. Ophelia needs another vertical weight and at least 2 flat plate weights. That would make her look seriously work-ready. Torque values???? I asked an old German VW expert how tight VW bolts needed to be. His answer in his German accent was "Tighten them till they strip and then back off 1/2 turn." Great video.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm kinda surprised Alan didn't do some touch up while we had it out. He did a bunch last year when it was out, so other than some scratches from pulling the engine, it wasn't too bad.
      I've seen the base weight both colors in Oliver literature. It was green for the 00 series, and I've even seen pictures of early slab weights that were green. That looked weird to me. The base weight was factory green on my 1650, so I repainted it that way. From what I can tell, it looks like they switched them to white around 1968. I have seen the stack weights both colors as well. I tell people to pick whichever one they like best, but I like a green base weight and the rest of them white.
      I want to put a couple flat weights on Ophelia and the 1650, I just need to get them painted up. Abby drives her to school this Friday, I doubt I'll get any painted with harvest starting up any day now.

I thought it was fine but a friend has one and says mine has a whine in engine up toward the front, possibly by injector pump area. Back the first time I owned it I understood there was an update for oil pump drive that this one never had, something about a snap ring. Any idea what might be going on it has good oil pressure. If you re ever in central Ohio I d pay you to look at it and get your expert opinion.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris

      There was an update to the lube pump, they changed the way it was machined to prevent hydraulic lock at the pump gears. They also put a heavier bearing in the pump drive idler gear. I don't know if those changes would be making your noise, but the idler gear is a definite possibility. You have to drop the oil pan and pull the oil pump and the front main to swap it out.
