    TBH I never understood why people are so obsessed with Zippo lighter. Till this New Year as I got 2 Zippo clones as a present. First one broke after a day of regular use (rightmost hinge loop got torn off. It's still usable but the top cap is very loose now). The 2nd one is still working. Then I searched how to properly use a Zippo lighter and fell into youtube rabbit hole with your videos. Now after watching about a dozen of them (or maybe more?) I got hooked up and ordered a genuine classic chrome Zippo lighter, without stickers, engravements or any other fancy stuff. I believe this is how a true Zippo should look like. Can't wait for it to arrive, so I can repack the wick and put a piece of sandwich bag at the bottom of the insert. Thanks for your channel!

    I got a high polish brass armor as my first zippo because I liked the extra weight and durability. I got a high polish model because it will eventually lose the polish and look like a normal brass lighter. Who knows, I might pass it down to my children one day, in that case, the lighter will have to last 30 years or so, the armor will make it.

    Great information. What is the rose gold made of? Chrome is a hard metal so if it is more scratch resistant it has to be harder than chrome. I would have thought it would be softer. This is the kind of info your experience with these lighters is noted for.

    • @Zippofanatic77outdoors
      @Zippofanatic77outdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well chrome isn’t actually as hard as one would think. Nickel is much harder and under this rose gold is a nickel layer for the rose gold to stick. The old zippos from the 50’s 60’s 70’s were actually nickel plated and chromed over top of the nickel. I found this out while trying to etch some old zippos. Same way I discovered there was nickel under the rose gold. Copper , silver and gold all mixed together is also more durable then chrome. It’s the thickness of the chrome that gives it the appearance of durability like on vehicle bumpers. The chrome is on there 6 maybe even 10 times thicker than the chrome on a zippo. Also I noticed on the rose gold my stippling bit would bounce off the rose gold finish. Where it digs into the chrome and brass and removes it instantly. I was completely shocked of he durability of that rose gold finish. Also rose gold won’t tarnish or look dull over time like the chrome unfortunately does. I absolutely love the rose gold. My favourite finish

      @@Zippofanatic77outdoors That is good to know. I cannot believe how much you have learned about lighters. When I was 10 or 12 someone in our neighborhood gave or traded to me and my brother a Zippo style lighter that was old, made in Austria. I don’t remember any other name but later found out that the Zippo lighter design was based on an Austrian lighter. This was in the late 50s so I suspect someone’s dad brought it back from Europe after the war. We used it for a while, but it did not work as well as a real Zippo. It had a design on the front, looked European, but it was a red colored paint that had a rubbery texture. The design was beginning to deteriorate and come off, and to the best of my recollection the lighter stopped working. It was old and maybe the spring rusted, I just don’t remember. I wish I had it - I would send it to you because it could be a real link to the original Zippo design. We probably got the flint and fuel from our parents, since my mother smoked.

    Quick question; I just got a new Zippo armor 2021 tumbled brass, and the lid does not sit flush when closed. It actually has some play and is misaligned to the right. Looking at my only other Zippo I've ever owned, purchased 7 years ago, this doesn't seem right. My 2014 brushed chrome is completely straight and has absolutely no play at all when closed.
    Is the minor, but present play normal for armor or brass?

    • @Zippofanatic77outdoors
      @Zippofanatic77outdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that’s normal buds for an armor. It’s thicker and the inside is a tad big than a regular. The loose insert makes the lid more jiggly. I use zorro inserts in my armors. Or a a yellow flame with tape on it seems to work good. If u use my bag trick it will also keep the insert there fighters helping the wiggle a lit bit. If u pull your zippo insert up a little bit that helps too but it will just slide back down without the bag

    I had asked a friend to get me an Armour Brushed Chrome Zippo from the US and I just got it yesterday.
    Absolutely loving it. It's looks great and has a nice weight to it. It's a bit smaller than I expected. It's around 2.1 inches tall, 1.4 inches wide and half an inch thick, as per my rough measurements using a tape (Is that the correct measurement?)
    Also, as this is my first Zippo, I'm not sure if it's 100% original or fake. It looks original and since he got it from the US the chances of it being a fake are rare.
    But I have my doubts due to 3 reasons...
    1. The size seems smaller than expected
    2. The case and insert manufacturing dates match (which is rare). The alphabet on the left also matches (K)
    3. The insert pops out a few millimetres everytime I open the lighter.
    Would you say it could be a fake/clone or an original?
    Could you please share a video as to how we can verify if an Armour Zippo is original or fake??

    Armor hinge presume weaker because armor body is bit heavier

    My wife got me an 49ers 50th anniversary (only 500 made). It says it’s armor. What is armor?

    • @Zippofanatic77outdoors

      Nice limited edition. Armor is a zippo but it’s 1.5 times thicker than a regular one making it heavier and more dent resistant. Basically my favourite zippo

      @@Zippofanatic77outdoors thanks for clarifying. It’s actually 100th anniversary. My bad. Would you prefer silver or titanium of the precious metals collection?

      @@Alex-oy6wb silver because u can actually get them. Titanium is very light weight anyways. Doesnt feel right

    I JUST GOT A ZORRO 912S FOR A GREAT PRICE & COMPARED TO THE ARMOR ZIPPO THIS THING IS A BEAST & THE HIGES ARE WILL PROBABLY LAST FOREVER.

    No matter how much Zorro lighters are made. They're not as unique as a Zippo.
    Men far away from their homes depended on this piece of art.
    No brand will ever beat *ZIPPO* because of its role in WWII & Vietnam War.
    I want to learn metal work so I can modify my plain Zippos. Some zippos do look better plain like a brush fin chrome.
    Zippo is the Ford Mustang of lighters. 💯
    Most of the repair cam be done by it's owner. There s everyday monitoring of the lighter...just like a Mustang. Lol

      Yeah buddeh. Zippos are iconic. That’s why 41 replicas my favourite. Just got two silver ones today.

    First off, I love your videos. Very informative, but for the love of god, change the lighting! The lights wash out the colors of the lighters, and they all look the same. Other than that, keep making videos!
