This guitar reminds me of a certain Japanese jazz-fusion player, as well as a certain Nashville musician who asks where does the tone come from in an electric guitar.
Cowabunga dude, we've got an upright Flying V at home! And at 18 pounds, it's still lighter than a Les Paul! Great video as always! Love your sense of humor!
crazy ;) I was expecting a "table top lap steel" with simple steel rods as nut and bridge but that one is good x) (love the joke about it playing flat x))
That was the weirdest ironing board ever, even before it became a guitar! Looks like it was stable, but now it rocks! :) I guess no neck dive on that one? Nice one! cheers!
It's bonkers. But actually isn't it the left field that stimulates innovation and new ideas. Great video. Great fun. And I am sure will inspire some great creators.
Aw man, I was totally eyeballin that door before you even mentioned it as a potential guitar neck! Im a heavy reducer/reuser/recycler! Great show thanks! Was that a family of sea otters? !!I love otters!!
River otters technically! The sea otters were on serious decline here, leading to urchins and crabs having free reign to take out the kelp forests! But they are bouncing back now!
@@Notaluthier you cheeky devil knew it wasnt just a random coincidence. loved the wacky intro btw, your videos are refreshing in the guitar content world of youtube . but yeah dont ever cry for me, jesus dont want me for a sunbeam
In September last year, a few hundred miles south in Bremerton WA, a river otter like those in the video pulled a toddler underwater off a dock. The little boy was quickly rescued by his mom, but was bitten many times on top of the head, face and legs.
@@Notaluthierapropos of nothing, when I was growing up in Boston in the 80’s, there was a fat harbor seal named Hoover (because he ate everything) at the New England Aquarium. In those days there was an outdoor habitat for the seals and they could come and go through an access in the building pretty much as they pleased. Hoover learned how to talk, which was puzzling because seals technically should not be able to…however he had learned to talk from some of the more colorful folk who lived on the streets nearby, so his limited vocabulary was…shall we say “sprinkled with some colorful phrases.”
Hell, at least it's better than the rash of cigar box guitars that popped up on TH-cam. Copycats. No one will EVER copy the guitarning board! Levon, you have that most interesting early minstrel banjo thing. I would love to see a little more of it, if you will. I know the algorithm will chew it up and spit it out but it is somewhat fascinating. Perhaps as a members only vid. I didn't know I was interested in banjos until you appeared.
Yes! That is quite the specimen and has a pretty good back story too, so it might just hook enough people in. I’ll have to learn a few new skills too (like wood turning). I have another banjo project en route from Arizona as well that I plan on doing some wicked things to.
Wheh I saw that random bit of maple, it reminded me of this laser cutting service in Quebec called CBR laser... They're in the heart of the Beauce region known for it's lumber industry. Over there I guess you trip over hardwood boards all over the place it seems... Anyhoo, whenever you order lasercut metal pieces that are long and flimsy, they come shrink wrapped to a long hardwood board. Everytime I have an order coming in for such a piece at work, I keep an eye for the delivery truck... make a run for the shipping dept. and unpack it myself... Over the years I've scored some really choice boards that way!!!
It has a great look going for it. I'd kinda like to see you make this a practical guitar by lobbing off most of the ironing board to give the guitar body a radical V shape. Maybe a follow up click bait with the worlds longest V guitar body.
Can you play "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley? Plastic Fantastic! The March 2025 issue of G-World has an article about Christie's Jeff Beck auction. Pictured on Pg. 63 is Jeff's Mario Maccaferri G40, made of Dow Styron plastic. It probably would have cost thousands to buy at auction, yet no one would believe you owned a Jeff Beck guitar. ("Pull the other one!")
Nice work, I think. Next time you're in a hotel, "borrow" 1 of thems mini ironing boards. Your back will thank you when yer old 'n crunchy, like I'm is....
It’d probably be too much effort but you could totally cut that down into a flying v or travis bean wedge shape to make it more playable 🤣 (if you didn’t immediately disassemble it right after the video, that is).
This is a consideration actually! I genuinely thought it would make a cool/attractive guitar. And I may chop it down after I attempt to milk it for algorithm syrup
Agreed. You might have to stuff some tone socks in there for resonance - You should have picked some up from the Jeff Beck auction at Christies, but too late now :(
Who, in their right mind throws out a special "Tone" ironing board? There's no way you found that on the roadside, you had it stashed in your special Luthier "Tone" pile! What is the internet coming to, when you can be trolled by a Luthier, who'd have thunk it?😁
With long enough strings, ya coulda built a whole slide guitar section behind the bridge, but that would have ruined the ironing bit...choices, choices!
Well-y, well-y, well..see who's released a video the same night as Ted Woodford. That means one of you is going to have to deal with , " slightly more than buzzed " Ben. Looks like you drew the short straw kid !
Flying V?
nah, Standing A
Was hoping for a standing O and all I got was this lousy standing A!
F'king A
I thought the same
I feel like the secret to being a luthier is to have fun and be yourself
Could see Billy Gibbons using that, and once he's done he'd certainly be a Sharp Dressed Man.
Luthier brain is real. When my neighbors set out a pallet, I grabbed it and am in the process of cutting it into tiny pieces to assemble a banjo from.
Thank you!
This adds a new wrinkle to guitar building. 😪
im so disapointed you didnt play it like a lap steel
Another masterpiece of absurdist comedy, old school craftsmanship, and raunchy tones!
🙌🤘👋thanks Chris
I want to make an electric double bass out of one. My girlfriend says no. It's not as if we enjoy ironing.

…at least when the rear is on the ground
This, THIS is what the people have been waiting, wanting, and asking for. It has been finally achieved. Brilliant!
Tell that to the TH-cam algorithm! 😵💫

Magnets!
Dude just invented heavy iron music and he doesn't even realize yet
Looking forward to what case this will be in
And, ahhh, it's got it's own built in stand ! Enjoyed!!!
😊
Too funny! Love it! The standup comic bit was perfect. I bet that iron is only used for steaming finger boards off necks.
Hard pressed....for a new idea, Thanks dude!
😂 the number of puns I missed out on this video is going to be devastating
This brings the heat LITERALLY!
If you've heard about masayoshi takanaka's surf board guitar, get ready for not a luthier's ironing board guitar! It's pretty metal
Thank you! That had me both laughing and at the same time totally impressed. Love your easy going approach. 👍🏻
Thanks! 🤘
This brightness up my day thanks for being so crazy😊

i also have quick release glasses lenses 😅
Those Jag pickups look like what we used when we made relic guitars back in the late 90s for Fen.
Don't know how u do it but glad u do
I’ve taken great inspiration from this. Now I just gotta get my cat to hold still so I can mount this neck on her
That's my kind of shit !
I think we need a triple neck guitironig board now !
I really enjoyed watching the man play with his tools.
I miss Norm so much. Happy to see you're a fan too.
He’s the GOAT for sure

I love the word "misunderestimating" I think I'll steal it from your dictionary.
Stolen from the war monger, and now, in retrospect, charming-by-comparison, former president George W Bush.

"Iron Man" by Black Sabbath would have been an obvious choice to play for the opening song.
Oh shit! Ya see, this is what happens when you work alone, in secret, so many possible puns/references lost!
lol I'm the same I always look at things and think if it can make a cool guitar I think you should cut it down to under the tail piece its too long
