I FULLY agree with your take on listening to vinyl on headphones.
Wow... I really thought I would get more pushback on this hot take! Thanks for validating me!
I think listening to *any* music on headphones is dumb! You need to be able to *feel* the music.
@@java2architect In general, I agree with you, but what do you do if you want to listen to music without disturbing others in the middle of the night?
The transformerless concept makes sense to me (no cheap output transformers distorting the sound to oblivion, especially the bass).
I'm building a tube preamp myself at the moment, to bring some tube distortion to my distortion-less silicon amplifier, lol. I just hope I'll like the sound man
GM ☕️from Toronto.
I’m still running the Xduoo 604 😎
Great video 👍🍌
Another great video my friend. I agree with the headphone/vinyl issue.
Thank you very much, Ed!
Vinyl - speakers
CD/streaming - headphones
Many people rave about the 6XX/HD650 headphones on an OLTL tube amp.
Not me! Never got into them! Thanks!
Great video! With my degraded hearing, I kinda miss hearing all the pops and clicks (and high hat cymbals) ! Perhaps I'll risk sweaty ears to hear more of my music!
Totally agree, i never listen to vinyl on headphones i can't stop myself from hearing all the surface noise, even if the vinyl is almost silent ill get distracted by the tiniest noise that isn't supposed to be there
Great video, Bob. You mentioned some excessive vinyl noise with headphones. Do you own a record cleaning machine? If not, getting one would improve your vinyl significantly. Congrats on passing the 10,000 mark!
Thanks for the fun review. I would consider this if not for the USA made Schiit Vali 3, also a tuber at $149. Haven’t heard either but I KNOW Schiit will last a long long time.
I agree vinyl sounds better with speakers
Hi bob, I’ve also got j2 and an a3 (both hand carved, I’m so lucky) but I still want this amp, what a great deal for something that looks that good and actually performs, thanks!
I bought that model! But the right channel only gave noice nothing from music channel got through. So I have this discussing with Zhensen and they say that they will try to send me a new tube. Is there anyone here that know where to get similar tubes for this model? Kind regards Mikael
Great review.
Why, thank you sir!
I cant stand listening to vinyl on headphones. agreed 100%
What's your opinion of the Sony MDR-7506 headphones for music listening?
I used to wear them in the studio, but it's been a few years. I know I didn't hate them. A lot of people use them professionally for a reason.
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog I think they are really flat
Too bad Sean from Zerofidelity is AOL?! However, very nice and enriching Video !!
Vinyl inconsistencies. Yep, I left that relic technology behind long, long ago. I don't get the attraction of such a flawed medium.
You did provide me your email address. I have written to it multiple times but I have never received a reply from you. I have just sent another email because I intend to visit my storage unit today to search for both the CD player I offered you and a GoPro Hero 8 Black I offered to NRV Outdoors. But he has responded to my emails but you never have, so I am not certain if I have made an error in my writing of your address or if you have chosen not to respond... I am going to my storage unit today, so please do respond to my email sent minutes ago so I know whether to bother searching for the CD player or not. The absolute absence of responses from you has appeared to be a clear sign I shouldn't bother as you appear not to be interested. A response to my email will at minimum indicate if I should or should not find the CD player.
Thanks,
David
Get a second hand McIntosh. It will keep its value. Buy a new chinese amp, and you can trash it losing the whole investment 😂
'Headphonification' is a wonderfully coined phrase to join 'Fun-Fi'. Thank you for this content and sharing this particular piece of kit. I don't think it will replace my Loxjie D40 PRO, just yet. Take care, Sir.
No, I don't imagine it will. But wait to see what I have next from xduoo... it's wild! Thanks, Simon!
Cant wait. Thanks Sir.
How can you compare this to a Macintosh? 😂… I like it… definitely not even close to a Macintosh though… mental to say it… I guess if you say semi open semi closed as two types of headphone that also says a lot lol

great review, enjoyed your take/comments on vinyl with headphones, I did want to mention don't get rid of your HD650 you can do a relatively inexpensive mod (from custom cans in UK) it entails removing the existing rear foam, adding a copper mass + new insert foam options which help to add sub bass and lifts the sennheiser veil making them lose that "wet blanket" that your hearing. I was amazed how big a difference it made for my HD650.
Great video Bob, thanks. I have to admit I saw The Band 50th Anniversary album on your right before I saw the pic of you and Rick Springfield. I have to agree with you on headphones getting just too close to the needle when listening to vinyl. I feel soooo old to admit I listen to a pair of Bose headphones before bed on bluetooth with the noise reduction on.
Now I have to listen to Before The Flood, Thanks.
Enjoy! The Band is one of my all-time favorites!!!
@@UnitedStatesofAnalog Loved those guys since I was born. Literally. Simply beautiful music with a soul.
I have rega planar 10 and rega aura phono connect to violectric 222 headphones are sen 600,bd 770 80om,hekse,akg 701. Sen and bd are to die for. I like more vinyl .

Great video!!!! You are inspiring me to put a steaming headphone setup in my bedroom!!! Thank you!!!!
It's big time fun and relaxing!
Agree that a tube pre can add nice warmth to a thin sounding amp or system. Got similar results with the Nitsch Piety headphone preamp. Nice and informative vid. Keep it up Bob
I can never listen to vinyl on cans. XDuoo are superb. I have TA20, TA22 and MT604 - they are all great amps
What place mt604 holds in the list mentioned?
@@7in1 bottom of the list in terms of sound quality but top in terms of value for money. TA26 corrected to TA22...
@@bongofury3176 what tubes your mt604 is equiped with?
I use linear power supply 12v with mt604 with tubes other than stock, and it sounds perfect for me, and I am curious if more expensive xduoos of your list , will make the sound even better?
@@7in1 I use rocket factory tubes. hand selected. TA20 and TA22 are both notably better sound quality and much more powerful than MT604 but also cost 3x as much...I need power on 1266
@@bongofury3176 OMG I can't believe watching the price tag of AB1266 🤑
This is my first time seeing your channel. You’re a cool guy!
@@aneeshsen8688 My wife thinks otherwise.... but thanks!
Great review. Adding to the list!
Thank you for watching!!!
Weightier is a perfectly cromulent word! 🙂 Great review - it is a bit incongruent to have an OTL amp with a big case that looks like it is a transformer.
That’s the power transformer.
I'd be curious how the XDUUO TA-66 compares to the Little Dot Mk II headphone amp/pre-amp...?
That would be a great video!
my first hi fi rule: don't trust anyone who has or praises mcintosh
That's a very extrinsic rule. Mine is: have fun.
A note: I have been hospitalized for much of the last 4 weeks (landlord illegally installed a Sewer Dry Vent into my kitchen which vents directly into my full bathroom). I will collect the Conrad-Johnson Sonographe SD-1 to offer you from my storage unit, but being poisoned by deadly sewer gas has consequences. It's slowed me to a crawl and I apologize for the delay. Second note: Clearly I know about flaxseed from experience. I apologize if it came across as mocking (I bet you know firsthand knowledge showed in the Focal comment).
I remember like what 5 years ago literally everything XDUOO was considered garbage.
Whats with the McIntosh bashing?
C.A.M now you.
I mean i love it but did you call each other and say lets bash the McIntosh fanboys today? 😂
PBthal agrees with you too (had an interview with Darko some time ago), so not as hot as you thought. Great review as per usual. I appreciate the comparisons with other amps, specifically the Geshelli. The mW is pretty low for a full sized amp, but not sure how much "push" it has vs other opamp-only based headphone amplifiers. I am sorry to hear the McIntosh is not up to snuff, but you know, meters....
Ah - I think you touched on why vinyl is coming back. Noise desensitivy amongst the population. Finally I have an explanation - I could never understand anyone wanting to go back to this horrid way of listening. But now it makes sense.
I have TA-66 arriving next week and I am looking forward to comparing w/ Darkvoice. I actually use my Darkvoice primarily as a pre-amp because it sounds so damn good - much better than another tube amp that I used to own at 2X the price. The magic must be the point to point design! Where else can we get point to point hardwired pre-amps without spending thousands of dollars !
I wish these amps came with balanced out. Why don't tube amps come with balanced out??
Funk ya! Can I run my ReisongA10, CD player through these and no head phones I play loud for my drums ect..
Been trying to enjoy late night vinyl on headphones cause of my 3 young kids but I totally agree! Spent $600 on the Meze 99 and IFI headphone amp for it.
I wish this was just a plain amp. I have Sundara's and a Schitt headphone amp and rarely use them. I'd get a lot more fun and use out of the same thing in a low-watt regular amp.
I don't listen to vinyl or headphones but I enjoyed the heck out of this video anyway. I do own two headphone amps with remote controls that I use as remote volume controls in the tape monitor loops for vintage receivers.
Thanks for this. Looking to put together a little office setup, with some FunFi, and was looking at this unit.
I def remember transistor radios if you had a 10 transistor radio you rocked.
I remember being under the covers with my Crown transistor six!
Congrats on 10k! Very exciting!
Great video!! I totally agree with you and others about using headphones with vinyl... too noisy - distacting.
Here's my pic with Springfield, proof of no hitters, and i drink wine while listening... ok
Clickbait title. Just a preamp/headphone amp only with one line out. 🙄 Not taking the place of anyone's Mac gear.👎
