Two things I do at each event that works for me is 1) I do a setup and send pictures at two different angles to some family or friends and get their opinion. 2) People normally walk by your booth at least twice. Each half hour I move a few items around. I have sold more by doing this. Hope this helps everyone.

I thought about doing that! I'm so glad you mentioned this. I used to work for big box retailer and they do this ALL the time. They never said why... but I was onto them and their strategy. :)

Leaving a 6-8 inches in front of your pay station is so important for people with purses or other shopping bags so they can have a place to put them down on the table while they are digging for their card/cash. Just a tip for people in the comments :)

I have been doing craft shows for a few years now and I agree with most of what you've said. The only thing I disagree with is dropping prices at the end of the show (unless you are a food vendor in which case it makes sense). I sell handmade jewellery and if I don't sell something at one show, I can sell it at another for the price I'm asking. Just my 2 cents. 🙂

Excellent video!! Loved your points. I was at a market last night buying loose leaf teas from a lady when my toddler started crying and becoming fussy. The lady selling teas quickly pulled out a sucker for him from behind the booth. Long story short, she got a $10 tip on top of me buying two teas from her because of that small touch. :-)

Thank you so much for this video. It helped me tremendously. I crochet and had a couple of shawls that I put on dress forms. I was so focused on how my table looked, that the forms were an afterthought. I couldn't understand why they weren't selling compared to the other items I create. Well I took your advice and ran. I styled the forms, one with a cute denim blazer and the other a sweater and................BINGO!!! They sold!! I did the same thing at every other fair I had this season and I'm happy to say that all of my shawls sold! Thank you so much for this valuable tip that I will never ever forget! You're an angel! :) xo

You are so awesome. Thank you so much for sharing and being transparent. You are right, there's really not a lot of articles or resources business owners can read and take away relatable information to help them feel confident in wanting to explore vending events as an option. A lot of my experience has been through trial and error, but a great learning experience. I wish you continued success, great health, and blessings!

I have been doing events for the past few years and I can agree with what you are saying, especially putting yourself out there and being friendly to potential customers just walking by. I have gotten quite a few orders and sales by just engaging people.I also have learned a lot talking with other vendors, especially what events are better to attend. I also do not provide candy at my booth, it distracts customers.

Thanks for the advice! I actually put a fair crashes in her place. I applied and didn't get in but still went in support of local crafters. This woman can up to me handed me a pamphlet about her business. I asked if she was in the event. When she said no... I handed her paper back and kindly explained people applied, and paid to be here. As a vendor who didn't get in I thought it was rude and unfair for her to steal from others business. The director who created the even happened to be the table I was at at the time. She was blown away and appreciative. Crashed left the fair and I am pretty sure I will get into the next one.😊

    • @shannoncarlson6960
      @shannoncarlson6960 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Actually that was rude and wrong of you in my opinion. A lot of craft show organizers are paid cash by vendors to get in. It can be cutthroat. This person wasn't doing anything wrong by handing out info at a craft show...obviously people thst are there enjoy crafts. It's fine to support the actual vendors but some of them might not even deserve to be there, they just gave the organizer money. What you did was rude.

I’m gearing up to do my first for vendor events. I hesitated to sign up for one of the largest ones this year because it would’ve been my first time. I figured it wouldn’t be the best first experience. And I have social anxiety. But I really believe in my product, and everyone who’s tried it even family members who are brutally honest, love it!. I make artisan soap. Anyway I went to this huge fair and walked around and realized there is a huge niche for my product. I saw him melt and pour soap, but my soap is 1 million times better than that. And It just really gave me the confidence to step up and sign up for these events.
I’m bringing samples of my product, which I know is a lot harder to do with clothes, but when I cut my soap I always have small sliver’s or a little extra better I pour into simple molds. I plan on giving a free one out with every purchase.

Great tips! Regarding the lady trying to give you her business card, that is called suitcasing and is usually against a tradeshow's rules. You should report people like that to event management so they can deal with it immediately and ensure it doesn't happen again in the future. You paid, they shouldn't be getting the same benefits as you. Here's more info:
"Suitcasing is when a company either registers as an attendee, or has no badge at all, when they should be registered as a sponsor [or vendor]of the event. They are actively trying to recruit business from attendees - by handing out flyers in hallways, leaving printed material on tables, etc. - without paying to be a sponsor. Obviously, this is directly stealing revenue from the conference, as well as stealing from the official sponsors and being deceitful and confusing to the attendees. Nothing upsets sponsors quite as much as a suitcaser. They are always reported to the event organizer by an angry sponsor."

Many vendors slide cash to organizers to get them in. It can be shady and cutthroat. Don't shame someone for going to an event and wanting to leave a business card. Just because a vendor "bought" their entry possibly underhandly, don't honor them too much.

Although this video is six years old everything you said is still valid. I participated in an event several years ago and the situation was exactly the scenario you described where the people were steered away from the vendors. I put so much money out for the event and was so upset. The only vendors who made money were the seminar instructors and they made sure the people paid before they left the room to tour around. I don't want to experience that again.

Enjoyed your tips. This past weekend, I attended a Jazz Fest that had many vendors selling the same type of items, but they all had their own uniqueness, somehow. It was great. The only complaint I had was that ONE vendor would not answer any of my questions or give me her business card unless I tried on her articles of clothing. it was 80+ degrees outside. I was sweaty. Everything I asked her -- how much, do you have a business card, what material, etc. her response was ""I can't tell you unless you try something on."" Needless to say, I never tried anything on, never got a card, website, NOTHING. I do a lot of online shopping. This vendor just lost a potential customer . SMH. I wish she had listed to your tips.

It is hard to believe that a sales person would be that clueless!! When I am at event I try to help people find what they want even if it isn't my stuff. I have been at events where I sell my soap and another soap seller who specializes in a different kind of soap was nearby. If the customer asks for something I know the other soap maker specializes in I will direct them to their booth with any recommendation I can give (Like oh yeah so and so has goat milk soap, she even owns the goats and it is really beautiful, for example) Often that positive attitude will get that person to recommend me to someone else who wants what I do sell.

Oh wow this was very helpful. I have actually done exactly what you said the other girl did and gave gift bags to the guest n all not even thinking these other people paid and put all this time and effort into setting up a table. We didn’t even know vendors would be there or even thought about being one.🤦🏽‍♀️ Wow well if that was me I’m so sorry🙏🏽😬
    Good lessons great tips🥰🙌🏽

Great insight here. I just had my 1st craft fair 2 weeks ago and am going for round 2 tomorrow. It's supposed to be scattered rain showers. Figures. lol. It is funny that you bring up someone passing their biz cards when they didn't have a booth. I actually had that happen to me at my 1st craft fair. I wasn't upset by it, but I did wonder why she was trying to get me interested in her cake baking biz when I was telling her about my handmade jewelry 5 minutes before. lol. Have a sparkle-tastic day!

Thank you so much for this. I wanted to do expos for my virtual tour business this year and I felt somewhat confident because I've been to fitness expos (Arnold Classic) before, but you're 100% right that I should check out the events as a participant before I jump into being a vendor. There's still work to do on building the actual business and brand so I'll focus on that and do expo research this year.
