This week, I made one of my most requested monsters and added it to my Imaginary Mountain Railroad. The monster I made is the Slide Rock Bolter, a legend from my home state of Colorado. The monster is described as looking like a whale with a hooked tail that slides down mountains on a slide of its own saliva consuming tourists. I sculpted the monster from polymer clay.

The craziest thing about Slide Rock Bolters to me, is the notion that they're supposed to build up so much speed on the way down, that they just slide up the next mountain to latch onto and do it again. So it's like skateboarding a halfpipe but mountains
That sounds terrifying
Sounds cool as hell
That sounds legit painful honestly
I was wondering how they get reset XD
Scary
Have you ever considered writing a story/novel about your Imaginary Wild West? I love the story you’re putting together with All these projects.
I think he is writing a novel, indeed! Said something like that in previous videos.
One could say Boylei is telling a story with his dioramas already. Just not in text, but in visual
Then we need a movie with Jack Black and Nic Cage as competing but friendly monster hunters!!
@@ReginaRegenbogn which video?
But it's ESSENTIAL that there is also an audio book version, and he must be the narrator. 🙂
It's the subtle details that really sell that layout. The autumnal shades of the ground cover, the ripples on the water, the giant stony carnivorous mountain fish.
I'm 64, and this is the first I ever heard about the Slide Rock Bolter. After pausing your video to Google this monster, I think you did an excellent job depicting this apparently well-known cryptid, and it fits your Wild Imaginary West perfectly! I also like the way you made it a removable part of your Imaginary Mountain Railroad, so you may tell different stories in the future.
Thanks for sharing this with us!
You, good sir, have an entire stack of years.
Cryptid? Naw, mack, it's a folklore monster, made up by dumb people to try and explain freak rockslides in the lumberhills. There's a whole raft a' dumb critters sawjacks dreamt up, an' don't you believe a one of 'em. "Hodag" indeed. Pff!
@@sasha1mama cwinge !
I just heard about it from Distractable 😅
I found it once browsing the Cryptid wiki and it introduced me to the “Beasts of the Lumberwoods”, that was when I realised the Slide Rock Bolter was my spirit animal.
It almost kind of looks like the mouth is the source for a waterfall, which I would now like to believe is the case for all waterfalls. Such great sculpting and paint work!
I think it'd be great if there were several small, unrelated monsters scattered throughout the area. Like this train is clearly passing straight through their territory
I remember growing up being SO bummed the only "cryptid" we had here in CO was this guy. You did him justice and made him look awesome, and actually blend in with the landscape. I love it! I definitely feel otherwise now
Camp Monsters did a fantastic campfire story on this guy. Genuinely gave me chills even though the idea of a giant mountain whale is ridiculous.
Holy crap that camouflage is godlike. I saw this thumbnail dozens of times and didn't notice the fish. I just thought you had given the mountain a mouth. I'd be food for sure.
A diorama of the ruins of Rico would be awesome
This is an extremely bizarre creature, but it also looks pretty cool. Plus when I saw the thumbnail I thought it was some sort of giant version of Jaws erupting from the mountainside! 😳
Me too. 😮
Absolute #1 BEST DIORAMA MAKER ON THE WHOLE OF TH-cam!
100%
Agreed!
Never miss a post.
Oooo badass! Gives me Expedition Everest vibes
There is Luke Towan.
I think you should start doing more clay on your channel because you are really good at it!!
Looks phenomenal! The monster reminds me of a fish we have up here in Alaska, called an Irish Lord, there just a giant mouth with teeth and spines. Accidentally stepped on one not long after we moved up here and the toxins they carry in their spines made me sick for a few days, could add that to the back story of your monster, maybe add green tips to the spines? Would be really cool! ❤Love your work!!
They have them in Washington too, so that works with the Rockies scene. Love it!
I love how it makes it now kind of look like the lake/river under the trestle is now entirely generated by the saliva of the rock monster. Just one big lake of monster spit. That is probably where trout get their slime coat from. lol
These projects never fail to impress. Woah! This is incredible!
I love that you made one of my favorite legends. It's so weird and outlandish and just remembering that this thing exists, even as a work of fiction, makes my day brighter every time.
You should make a book about this western world of yours.
I'd buy it
The way you made the monster camoflauge into its surroundings really sells it 👌 very natural and realistic for a fantastical creature 👍 well done 👏
Fantastic, I think you should add some little scavenger monsters picking the over the bones of the Slide Rock Bolters previous victims
That monster actually does blend in very well !!
This was absolutely amazing. Great idea with this one Boylei. Stay legendary.
There's a lot of cool Fearsome Critters that would fit well in your imaginary wild west!
But I still want to see some Imaginary Mustangs someday. Magical horses who've managed to not only survive, but thrive in the Imaginary West, gaining some strange powers in the process. Incredibly valuable, but incredibly difficult to break in and nearly impossible to even catch to begin with.
You should do a grave-yard/vampire kind of thing next. Maybe a cemetery that has a secret underground chamber for of ghouls?
That is truly awesome. Also I have a request, can you do a diorama with a hunter in a cabin in the woods. Then, he gets ambushed by velociraptors.
I love how you use a mix of making your own figures, and using premade ones. It truly inspires me
WOW! That thing is awesome! I’m really excited that your sculpting more things. I really like weird, complex stories behind strange creatures. Your channel covers a lot of that, I also think it’s interesting how you use myths and depict them realistically.
That was an awesome add-on to an amazing build, great stuff 😻🤟
Love the new intro!
And this build was one of my favorites when you first made it ❤
Not sure if anybody's said this yet, but the Slide Rock Bolter as a rough shape looks a lot like the Planet Killer from the original series of Star Trek.
Excellent work as always.
WOW SICK!!! That is about the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. I LOVE it! Another amazing job Boylei!!
Holy cow you’re getting close to 1 million! That’s amazing and awesome. Congrats I hope you can live your days making cool things every day.
Big amount of work! Thank you for this video!
I seriously love this and I dont think you should remove it. It really fits in sooooo well!
Love everything about the Wild Imaginary West (tm)! Thank you for continuing to share your world with us!
That is absolutely awesome! Great job indeed 😊
love the new addition of clay models!
Awesome video! I love how you can take folktales and turn them into the wild imaganary west! Looks awesome!
I really enjoy watching you make your dioramas and plan on doing my own and look for tips from your videos
I love all your builds and the stories really bring them home. Amazing as always.
What an awesome build. Cool cryptid too!
I was missing this love the work!
Love stonefish! Great thought for using this as the inspiration! Such an interesting looking fish
I love you Boylei. You have such amazing talent and this genuinely helps me wind down to sleep every night.
Thank you so much for making my life enjoyable.
you always have such amazing work you truly are an inspiration to me and so many others
This is completely awesome! Great job!
Love your work keep it up!
I was really scared at first but in the end I think all of the additions have pushed this already amazing diorama another step above.
G'day to you! As always ,well thought out and Made, thanks so much for your Time and Effort!
Love this latest chapter to your Wild Imaginary West. Such a tragedy, the destruction of Rico; now just another ghost town, victim to monster incursion and human miscalculation. Did that poor ranger face the wrath of the survivors, or did he go out like a hero: on fire, with a curse and a smile on his lips?
OMG, I LOVE THIS! I knew what it was before I even saw the title.....Fearsome critters like the Slide Rock Bolter fit so well into the imaginary West
What a cool mountain creature. And a great addition to the diorama, when I first seen the thumbnail I thought it was a living cave or something like that space worm in the astroid on The Empire Strikes Back. Either way it still looks cool. Love the tourists, and the ripple effects on the water set it off just right, this is a great revamp to an already amazing piece. I look forward to your videos every week keep them coming, and the imaginative stories that come with them.
Your so talented! I love watching your videos
Wow, this is great. That monster is wildly fun!
That's very awesome. Great job on the paint job.
Your clay work is excellent. Reminds me of North Of The Border!! Love this build!
Seeing the tease at the beginning of the video I thought the mountain was the monster. This is better. The details on the monster are perfect! Great job, as always.
This looks awesome!!
Love the adventure, man👍
Your the first you tuber I’ve met who’s from colorado, great to see a lot of these things represented that many don’t know about.
Thanks for all your hard work!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the Gamey Builds shirt and Gamey Builds-esque story during the painting. Great work
I don't know which I like the best - the model or the story telling!! Thanks for sharing!!
Such an awesome addition to the Wild Imaginary West!!!
I love this! the drool can be left behind like snow runoff or just evidence of the slide rock bolter's previous escapades
love from NOCO, its nice to see youtubers that are fellow colorado natives. Also the entire scene looks like Idaho Springs or Leadville
Loving these!!
Excellent. Maybe the best one yet!
Another beautiful masterpiece! ❤
I just googled Slide Rock Bolter the other day when they’d popped up in a book i was reading. Very cool monster….that I never EVER want to meet 😝
Adore your Bolter, looks fantastic!
That stone whale is awesome I wish I had your clay skills :)
glad you did an update to your landscape.
Thanks. Great work.
What an amazing project. Throughout my 18 years of living in colorado I have never heard of the slide rock bolter. Thank you!
amazing, I luv everysingle one of your vids and plan on doing my own diorama's
Your videos are always relaxing even if there are monsters😂 i turn on your videoa if i have had a bad day or if i need to relax and fall asleep.
This is amazing!! I saw it at Telford! When I saw it I thought it was yours but I hadn't seen this part of the build yet but it was awesome to see in person!! Bang on mate!
I love the slide rock bolter, gotten my interest ever since I've heard about it❤
The thinly veiled sarcasm is great , you do great work as well I love your wild imaginary west story
This one is SOOOO good!! :D
Quite groovy and tubular indeed my good sir
Lol - awesome! Great addition to the mountain/rail diorama.....
You need to have a traveling exhibit with all your monstrous wild west diarammas in it I would love seeing that you're so amazing keep it going!
You're the best storyteller I've ever seen!❤
Far out. Really enjoyed this one.
I think The human-like front teeth fit quite well into the logic of this creature, since it would want to have it's tongue out, in order to salivate the slope most efficiently, which the blunt frontal teeth allow.
Such talent and skill. That's gorgeous 😋😋
Great Work! 👍👍👍
Brilliant as always. Greetings from northern England
Great Work!!!!
I think it's a great addition to the diorama.
The monster is badass!
Ooh, I love your monster. I'm going to see if I can add one to my mountain.
Rico, CO is freaking beautiful. So many great trails. Plenty of tourists close by in Telluride;)
When I first saw the thumbnail I though you made the mountain into a monster like a big mountain mimic. Love this though, fearsome critters are some of my favorite folklore monsters.
That is AWESOME!
I absolutely love your imaginary wild west world. Reminds me of the alternate world from King's Dark Tower series. Just enough technology to not understand the technology.
Amazing just like every other thing you make 😎👍
A fantastic build!
It also reminds me of the Planet Killer. 👍😎👍
(I assume that everyone here remembers the Planet Killer from Star Trek).
Amazing that you used an actual, real cryptid in your Imaginary West. I love it. ❤
Thank you so much for your channel and your wonderful skills at building and storytelling.
I wish I had those abilities.
Be Excellent to each other and Party on. 🤘🎸😎
You are so good!
This is just great, Now I don't know if I liked it better without monster or now, with it slidig from the top... both versions are so fine! 😊
