Winch arrived today so I am pretty excited. One of my hobbies is rock climbing so I am used to walking on thin ledges :-)

Yes had a retro games/video room up there.
Is it the fasteners for the nylon rollers rubbing? Extra wheels to check side to side movement is something for future you to consider.
Remember Dale mentioning the level of the lifting surface, having checquer plate come flush to the hatch would look flash.
Id triple up on the winch pully fasteners . and look into some failsafe mechanism , a sprung pawl that rides the horizontals . sounds like you've already touched base on the subject in your research.
Have a great week. (My weekend is in the middle of the week also.)

Retro games room sounds like a great use for an odd space like an attic. I have some ideas for a fail safe mechanism - dying in a hole of my own digging would be a dumb way to die LOL

Not bad for just a month of 8 hour work shifts. The money's indicative of 21 days of 15$/hr (8 hour work shifts).
A bit excited to see that lift going up and down on its own power though. Might be worth installing the winch system on the elevator frame, and have it lift itself to an anchor point, since you forgot to leave a hole to install the winch inside of. Just means an extra 20-30KG of weight on-board at all times. Or, you can install the winch "on the ceiling" of the basement, you should have enough room to install a nice powerful large diameter pulley wheel at the top, flat to the wall. (Large diameter = less strain on the cables). It might even look like a professionally made elevator!

Bang in a hole on the wall there behind the top of the elevator, shove a fat rod in there, slap a nice chunky bearing on it, put a large elevator pulley wheel on it, and hopefully a 'keeper' on top so if the elevator ever gets stuck going downwards, the cable doesn't fly right out of the wheel.. Maybe be greedy and put two such wheels there.. Maybe by June we'll have the elevator ready to take our first customers? :)

The winch and battery for it will all be mounted on the elevator. Winch is ordered so hope to have it running within a month.
