Watched this in the theatre a couple days ago. In case anyone needs even more validation to watch this movie after watching the trailer I'm here to tell you this movie is spectacular. Everything about the movie from the acting to the story telling is a masterclass.

My favorite film of the year so far. Been heavily disappointed in far too many movies this year. The execution here was flawless. Storyline, acting, duration of the film, direction and cinematography. A beautiful film.

Ok by far my favorite movie of 2024. The simplicity of each character and the story…heartfelt and bittersweet. Their love was so pure back in the day. They were so content just to be with each other. Kristiofs character of having a gentle soul makes him more attractive. Men knew how to be men and ladies were ladies. ❤
this hits home for me. I met someone in somewhat a similar situation...this movie is going to make a grown, id like to think, badass, cry.
I hardly ever watch a movie twice. This one I did. I hope it wins awards. The directing is great...just everything is great about it. I will be buying this so I can watch it a third and fourth time; and share with company.

He was one of my favorite people in the film! He has a very strong presence indeed!

My fiancée and I watched the film in Scotland yesterday. We were alone in the cinema screen which while nice for us is also a shame because the film is really good and deserving of a bigger audience. We never saw a trailer for it, despite having been in cinema 30+ times this year already so only watched it because we had seen all other films already and saw it listed on the cinemas website. You would think this kind of drama romance is something you'd rather catch on TV but the cinematography is quite beautiful and some shots work really well on the big screen. Great performances, good story, sadly not the kind of film you see in your normal multiplex cinemas any more, especially not in the UK. If you have the chance, go see it.

Same here at first it was a TH-cam ad for me right when I was about to pound the skip button I stopped. This was something else. After watching the whole trailer, I felt euphoric and was saying I have to see that movie

I just saw it and it's in my oppinion Baltazars all time best work. Very nice movie. Slow burn dramatic love story, but there's always something going on. Good script and well told story.
Btw, I had never seen the main actress before. She has the eye's of an angel :)

I loved this film. It was beautiful and achingly poignant. It moved me to tears and I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to understand what love really means.

@@shougokawada8491 for sure it was an interesting original comment for that reason! I wouldn't have considered it an "Asian" film either! But I am such a softie at heart, I felt like ppl were piling on the original commentor so I was like oh ok I can see why they said that. Lol. It definitely does have a very important Japanese throughline and the story of Japan in the 20th century very much informs the film's plot and shapes its characters. So, honestly I think I would consider this a "world film" because of how it spans both the globe and time.
I saw it tonight and really liked it.
The younger actors were especially good and I was so rooting for their relationship.
It's a cliche to say but it is a touching movie so if you are on the fence give it a chance because you'll likely enjoy it.

Why wait 50 years to find the love of your life?
Sometimes life gets in the way. Also, 50 years ago everything was on paper. It would have been nearly impossible to track someone that far.
It describes him as a widower so he obviously lost Miku and couldn't find her so he eventually married another woman. After she passes is when the story takes place. I remember a story a few months or a year ago about old international lovers reconnecting after both of them lost their spouses.
