WARNING, Danger Will Robinson! When you get torn down to the lower intake manifold gasket there are metal plates on each end of the "V", held down with small 10mm hex bolts. Be SURE to hold on to them as you pull off the gasket. They are loose, not adhered to the gasket, and can fall down inside the engine. I lost the rear one and had to remove the oil pan, where it had found a nice home on top of the windage tray. (I had just replaced the upper pan gasket a week earlier...GRRRRRR!!!!!)

Paid to have mine done. 345.00 Had to do it because jeep starting leaking some coolant from intake manifold gasket.
Get those 8MM EGR bolts through the wheel well, remove the fender with the liner, 5 screws and a few clips.

Great video. Question gegarding the torque settings. I have replaced the gasket and used the specified torque settings but have found that the coolnt was leaking. Not sure why ended up removing the gasket off and found that the gasket wasnt crushed so had another go at installing but this time ended using silicone gasket just in case ot leaks again. Ended up kust tightening by hand and didnt bother using torque settings as after using torque i was still able to tighten by hand. When tested all was good but there is still visible coolant at the back on the engine where its leaking. The leak is minimal but it there as i dont notice losing coolant from the reservoir. I have driven it for about 3000km mostly tracks and rocks and haven't noticed a problem. Has anyone experienced anything like this just would get it fixed and worrying about getting stuck somewhere. I tried everything to open the drain valve. Had to take a hydraulic Jack handle and use a Vice to oval it to fit over it, then counter clockwise looking from underneath to drain

Todd, after you pull the gasket off, how did you go about cleaning the block? I saw some liquid below where the gasket was. Is that normal? Are you suppose to vacuum that out? Thank you.
that was engine oil. when the gasket is removed it opens up the view of the camshaft below it.
Great video! Aside from plastic scrapers, how did you clean the intake gasket mating surfaces?
I am carefully using a right angled air powered tool with a wire brush on it.
Still having leaks at some front area. Going to loosen and change Tq sequence Starting with the front two bolts first.

I have cuestion I buy a jeep they tell me is 2014 and when I do oil change I buy filter and oil for 2014 and my engine is same the one you fixing now I have to much noise and I think is the rocket arms

Looks like you sand blasted that intake? Also I needed new intake bolts as one was snapped and I had to cut the bolt between the head and intake and 3 others were necked due to rust. That was $40 bucks itself

Hi, good video. Did you find any knock sensor under the upper manifold? Someone told me that there are two knock sensors. One on the passenger side and one under the manifold cover. I need to replace the one under the manifold. Just want to make sure it's there. THX.

I put new heads on and have replaced the intake gasket 3 times and every time it leaks out the back where the head has a coolant hole and the intake doesn’t any advice
I added a little RTV to that area, I hope it holds!!

I’m at 105,000 and just bought silicone hoses for heater core and looked like a bitch to replace so thinking of removing the intake and while I’m half way there going ahead and replacing the manifold gaskets. Is there a good kit available for valve covers, intake manifold, and anything else? I just replaced my lower oil pan gasket for a oil leak but it appears oil is coming from the pipe that connects to the upper right hand rear tubing PVC? Not sure if this is common that oil should be leaking from this tubing, it’s the line with the 8MM bolts and gasket. Anyways loved the video gives me a lot more confidence to do some preventive maintenance.

At 8:10 into your video, you show the fuel line clamp removal tool you use... i immediately got aroused because any of the small ones don't work for my hands... what is the Brand, or even model number of the pliers you use for removing those Demon Bastards...? I looked all over the I-Net... they only have cheap knockoffs available. Please Enlighten us...

@Raymond W mines 2008 JKU 3.8L IS AT 212,000 miles but now with a mysterious coolant leak...
i got 225,000 on mine and still going. 2007 jeep
@@yoshisfunfamilyfrenzy9653 yea, same here 225,000 and it started leaking coolant into the no 2 cylinder and out the front. Im assuming its causing the misfires at startup.
There is nothing wrong with the 3.8, a few left the factory with significant defects, but the vast majority of them are very tough reliable engines.
I prefer these to the 3.6.
Daaaam that 3.8 is not user friendly!!!
