Onnibus was a real game changer when they entered the market in 2011. Finnish railway (VR) lowered their prices considerably essentially due to them and funnily enough kickstarted considerable growth for VR. Too many train routes especially in southern Finland started to be alarmingly empty. I remember my cousin who was studying in Turku made the 4 euro Onnibus trip from Turku to Helsinki every other week. Back then the new Helsinki-Turku motorway it is actually quicker to do the trip by buss than by train. They are planning on upgrading that Helsinki-Turku track. Onnibus has diminished quite considerably since those days and they are operating on much fewer routes.
It’s great with companies that changes the way of travel. Prices are getting more competitive, and people are free to choose the way of traveling themselves
@@bussmagasinet1 Yeah. I saw that video. The ultimate has to be one of those night buses in Japan where you get your own room. But there are no accommodation there for those who like to sit in the front and watch the road. I wonder how you're going about your next step, from Finland to Norway. :) Let it be a surprise.
Onnibus seats are the most uncomfortable bus seats I've ever sat on. With 3-4€ you can get a little more leg room but the faux leather seats are just horrible to sit on. Sliding is one issue with them, sweating is another and generally they are hard too. Yet I've done this trip from Rovaniemi or from Oulu to Helsinki and back more often than I'd like to admit. Usually just because of the price. I use other bus companies when ever I can and even trains sometimes but Onnibus is usually the cheapest option on longer routes. The plus side is that they are often pretty empty during the night so there are no promlems getting two seats to yourself. Just like the night train's seating cars. I mean who would be crazy enough to travel 12h at night sitting on a bus or train... except me of course 😂. I've done it for 25 years and not about stop for a while. Peaceful way of travelling ❤.
I totally agree in the seats. Leather seats is really a bad solution. Still, price is nice. I (Magne) have also been riding the night bus all my life. Back and forth between Oslo and the west of Norway. Then in comfortable coached from Carrus or Vest (Norway)
Great trip. Thankfully you survive on this nearly 12 hours bus trip. I think you should come to my country, where there is Long Distance Bus Route with duration trip above 24 hours, even some of them can take about 2-4 days trip.
I´ve done this route many times and still find it uncomfortable, I am not tall at all, hehe and I could not stretch my legs, ugh! How did you survive? Still, I prefer to take the VR instead when it is not so crazy expensive!
Fin tur. Ulempen ved de fleste fjernbusser er manglende benplads, f.eks. 63 PAX i en 15 m Irizar i6! LUX bus er en undtagelse. Har du kigget på bussen ved 10:37? En Volvo B10M ? Fortsat god rejse!
Helt korrekt! Selskapene tenker kun profitt. Da jeg vokste opp, hadde norske ekspressbusser 48 seter fordelt på 15 meter. Perfekt! Nei! Den stod bare der og kjørte like etter
@@bussmagasinet1 Perhaps Kimmo could help with this? It would be something special to see a bussmagasinet-video about Kabus buses :D It will be not too many years when they are all out of service so it's about time...
@@bussmagasinet1 These Kabus buses are still in service in Oulu & Jyväskylä. But part of the routes in Oulu are taken over by Nobina in the summer so i guess at least most of the Kabus fleet will be gone by then. In Jyväskylä there is also a new contract starting in the summer with electric buses so all the Kabuses are surely gone by then from there.
Yeah I'd prefer taking the train on that route. No offense to the bus companies and bus drivers, but trains really are so much better for overnight travel. Finnish night trains especially, gosh they look like some of the best in the whole world.

Glad to see appreciation for the Helsinki tram, makes me so proud being a driver of them. I also love the older trams. Definitely subbing 👍👍
Welcome to the channel! 😁 Tganjs for great feedback 🥰
3:14 Very old solaris? Still new for us 😆. In Poland we even have them from 2006 and even older, second or first generations from 1999-2004.
That’s fun to hear! Good old classic Solaris 😁
Yet another very, very MAGNEficent and MAGNEfying video !
So glad to hear! 😁😁
Thanks for sharing this video. This helps a lot.
Glad to hear!
When you are used to the 2+1 layout in the VY busses, it's hard to take busses elsewhere.;) Looks like a good trip.
So true! And, after being in Brazil where seats are like business class on planes 😁😂

I hope to do more trip reports like this in the future. Seems like the viewers of the channel enjoying it

Too bad with the price on the train. This route is so affordable, but it’s hard to compete with the night train with bed 😁
Yeap. Helsinki is a bus paradise. New or old, Both are driving strong!
It’s a city east to fall in love with!

Når kommer videoen om de lavkvalitets elbussene fra MAN? De står jo mer enn de er ute i trafikk!
Den kommer når den er klar. Filmen er ferdig, men vi venter på klarsignal for å slippe filmen
You could pay just a little extra and choose a seat with more legroom on Onnibus.
Where? I walked through the whole bus. No seat was with a higher class 😂🚌
@@bussmagasinet1 Front row, and right hand side behind the rear staircase. And of course a 14 meters of legroom for the backseat middle passenger.
How is the suspension ride comfort on these Volvo 9700 ? I don't see any Mercedes-Benz Travego or O 404 ?
This is a VanHool.
come to Turkey, everwhere is ful of travegos and intouros

Fortunately not many passengers in winter, could be very different in better weather.
I was Lucky to travel very low season. I would not be happy with a full bus 😂
Right now it's Finnish winter holiday season, so many busses are running full. We call this "normal" weather.
