Great build! My Uncle was a gunner on a Patton tank in Korea. He died 5 yrs. ago .I have some b&w pics of him sitting on his tank. I'm going to get this model, using your ideas and give it to my Aunt! Thank you!!!
i actually like how Atlantis is bringing old model kits back im thanking them for bringing them back i have one of them witch is the Aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga the kit went pretty well and its one of my first models of the Refitted Essex class carriers
I just picked this up at my local hobby lobby.. my wife just gave birth to our first son, so I’ve got some hospital time to build this thing. Thanks for the review!
Excellent weathering on this build Chris! I bought this kit based on the old school box art and researched an in country unit painted tiger striped livery! My first tank build ever! It was a great deal of fun!
What a cool build Chris. You know I'm having an old guy meltdown with all these kits from my childhood. I'll have to buy them all. lol. Too bad the price isn't $1.98 like it was when I was a kid. I wasn't too keen on some tank models because as a kid I looked at the kits to see if I had to glue all those tread pieces together and with a lot of small wheels looked too complicated. I liked this kit and you did a much better job on it as I did when I was a kid. Wonderful.
Those Aurora tank its were great. Too bad Polar Lights/Round 2/Praying Mantis does not release them. They have released a few of the old Aurora Universal Monster series kits, and some TV show kits. Probably the molds were lost in "The Great Aurora Train Wreck".
Andy's a good guy with great content and he helps the hobby along, room for all of us to have fun here. Unlike some other channels that troll or attack other people. Thanks a lot for the compliment! And thanks for spending some time on the channel!
I ' m an armour builder. And , yea! That's another great build! The tiger decals made it stand out. Nice idea about how ro paint tires. A pain really to handbrush the rubber. More power!
Looks great Chris! Seeing these retro kits compared to what we have now. Wow the modeling industry came a long way lol. I was surprised you had a problem with them decals. I never had a problem with them in the past. As for painting them road wheels that’s a fantastic idea 👍🏻 I’m definitely going to do that on my next armor build.
Wow i finally found this. My father told me he got gifted by a US army guy coming to Middle school in japan 1960's and i bought him new Takom M46 and he died 1 half year ago
A bit of advice;for aftermarket decals, that are of poor quality.Lightly mist Testors dullcote over the entire decal sheet, and let it dry for 30 minutes. Then mist over it again; with a slightly heavier coat,of Testors dullcote. When dry;it should retain it's shape, and not fall apart;and disintegrate.Test this technique;on spare decals,of poor quality first;to be sure the dullcote will work.If the decals, still fall apart;and disintegrate;after using the dullcote technique, then Testors decal film spray/decal sealer will work. The dullcote technique;for brittle decals, came from the tips and suggestions section;of the latest issue,of Fine Scale Modeler Magazine;for the month of November 2019.
Glosscote works as well. I have used it to prevent 40 year old decals fracturing. Also, if your vintage decals have yellowed, you can bleach them by sealing them in a zip-loc baggie, and tape them to a window that gets a lot of sun. I can vouch from experience, this works, along with the glosscote of course!
Oh yes, I built one like this about 4 years ago... And I put the headlights and shackles on wrong, then didn't realize it until it was fully painted... Seriously... SMH! 😄😄😄
Classic old kit given new glory by skill and artistry! I have a vintage Aurora build up of this kit, and recently bought the Atlantis release of it. When are you going to build the old Lindberg 1/32 Patton?
Not bad for such an old basic kit! The weathering you did really brought it to life.. By the way, what exactly is "Simple Green" used for? I mean, if I want to look for an equivalent here, what would I be looking for? Thanks for another great video!
Great job! An idea...the tiger motif, the front and numbers, would have been painted in the field, by Corporal Andy Army. The star on the turret, as well as the other official Army applied logos look professional, while the stuff Andy Army painted, at the behest of his tank commander, Lieutenant Doofan Shmurch, are, well, amateur looking. Oila, crappy decal problem solved with in world explanation. You intentionally made them look that way. Ssshhhh, I won't tell, lol.
Really cool build! But what's wrong with you and the guys at Atlantis?!? Torturing those poor little soldiers like this! They shot them and you, you cut one of those guy's feet! Poor little guys! Also, to reply to the post you put on earlier on Facebook, both the cat and the woman are wrong! It's actually pronounced Dakalz! So, now everybody know. So, you say we can show our stuff on the Facebook page?
Haha, that's the way they used to make molds, pretty funny how they come out. Yes, feel free to post pics in the Community area, that's what it's there for! facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop

Noelle L I could not agree with you more. I went to Atlantis’ sight and thanked them. Brings back great memories from my youth.
yeah these models bring back when people used to build them
thanks to Atlantis for saving them
I agree, lots of fun from Atlantis and more coming!

yay
I enjoy the low stress building of these simple vintage kits...
Yup!
It looks great! It is amazing how nice it looks painted up and weathered. Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you! Cheers!
I just picked this up at my local hobby lobby.. my wife just gave birth to our first son, so I’ve got some hospital time to build this thing. Thanks for the review!
Thanks a lot!
Weathering is so much fun. You don't have to worry about being perfect. There is no internal pressure to make the model shiny.
I 100% agree, love beating up kits!

Check your link to the tank it comes up blank in your link.
Thanks Larry!
I'll check the link and fix as needed, thanks.
Great job Chris. Don't see many 1/48th scale armor kits. Nice build and paint. Keep up the outstanding work. Have a great weekend and God bless.
Thanks Chris!

Great tip for painting wheels! That's gonna save me a lot of time. Thank you
Thanks man!
Memories. I built this and most of the other Aurora Tanks when I was a kid.
Cool!

Thanks a lot for the compliment! And thanks for spending some time on the channel!
Way too cool! When I saw this on sale I bought two. You absolutely nailed that build. I can’t wait for your JS 2 build.
Thanks Pete!

Nice build. The best thing about building armour is if you make a mistake it becomes battle damage.
Haha, right? No mistakes in military models!
facebook.com/hpiguysworkshop
Great job! Love your sense of humor!
Thanks Richard!

Another awesome build! Nice job with painting and appreciate the review on the aftermarket dekals. Very informative build as usual.
Thanks Brian!

I enjoy your videos. I'm happy to see 1/48th scale armor, perfect for flatcar loads on O scale model trains.
Thanks Robert!

TANKS Chris. Amazing how the weathering brings it to life. Nice switch up from cars. Keep on keeping' on, sir.
Thanks for sharing...
Tanks again RA!

For armour, I primarily build 72 but I've picked up a couple of 48th pieces from Tamiya. I may go farther down that scale's rabbit hole as well.
Reminds me of my Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog kit. That started me down the dark path of armor kit building!
It's a good time!

hpiguys Workshop No worries Chris and sadly I’m like the only person on this earth who doesn’t Facebook. Lol
The M46 is a favorite of mine but I went to the Atlantis website and they have a JS3 in 1/48 scale. This is my next build.
Fantastic job Chris! Excellent weathering detail!
Thank you!

Tanks for the build,Chris! Maybe set it up on the garage lift so they can perform the maintenance 😜.
Tanks, but I think it would collapse the lift! LOL

A little off topic, have ya thought of doing a gundam model? It would be interesting to see a review of one of those too.
I have, I did a build of a guntank on here. :)
Love those kits and have quite a few.
Good build. Did you know that the engine from one of those actual tanks was used in Jay Leno’s Tank Car?
Thanks Robert, and thanks for the trivia!

Can the wheels and tracks move? I'm thinking of motorising one if I get one.
They could, you'd have your work cut out to motorize this, go for it!
👍👍👍
Thanks Sam!
