The Space-X launch reminded me that I still had yet to pick one up. Very cool how the Dragon Launch Vehicle somewhat mimics the retro Von Braun/Kraft Ehricke-designed look!!
My dad worked at Convair in San Diego from 1950-1978, he worked on this spacecraft, would always mention the issues with the tiles in the interior wouldn't adhere as designed. Nice build!
Awesome to hear about Atlantis buying the molds and rereleasing the kits. Wow. Time to relive my childhood as some of vintage kits were still in stores.
I had this kit when I was a kid, only it was molded black. I just used it as a toy, but it was great fun for those pretend outer space flights! I really enjoy your videos. They have inspired me to get back into modeling. Thanks!
Pure Fun! I love your mission readiness to tackle nostalgia modeling products, Chris! You bring back those golden moments of yesteryear. It is so very A-OK! All systems are go for launch! I live in Houston - there is no problem. We treasure the Johnson Space Center/Space Center Houston and are proud to be NASA's Mission Control Center for manned space flight.
Have this kit...love the retro kits, especially the 1950’s “near future” kits...for paint scheme ideas I would recommend looking at Chesley Bonestells 1950’s space artwork...very colorful...reds and yellows on the spacecraft he painted.
There is a change of pace. Yes, Space was the popular interest in the 60's. Space Food Sticks, Tang, Space Pen that writes upside down. G.I. Joe with Space Capsule. The Flexi file was a nice little extra. I do not remember ever seeing this kit in original issue. It really does have that spirit of space adventure to it. Nice color contrasts.
Krafft Arnold Ehricke was a real rocket German American scientist who conceived of this back in 1962. When he was working for Convair. This was before the Boeing X-20 so there is a lot of original thinking in this & is probably the seed for the Shuttle.
I have been thinking of building this kit. Now I have to after watching your video. Those old kits are a lot of fun to build. A nice change of pace from the larger more complex kits. Thanks for the build up video.
Nice kit, brings back memories of the 50’s movies “silver rockets” You did a great job, especially on bringing those 1/150 scale figures to life with that quick painting Thanks for sharing 👍👍👍😎😎😎 Cary
Very much reminds me of something out of a Buck Roger's or Flash Gordon serial. This is the rocket that took Abbott and Costello to Venus, lol. Beautiful job on this classic kit.
Once again a great build of a very cool build, your scheme is perfect for this kit, great pai t job and thanks for the pointers, the figures look really compatible to 1/87 scale, a cool addition to a train layout to have a little fun, thank you for a great build and review.
What a sweet retro kit, never built this one but did do similiar models when I was a kid. Are you going to be building the Atlantis Cheyenne helicopter as well Chris? Would love to see how that kit looks built-up .
I wish that the model I had bought was molded in white. It would have made it much easier to paint. Mine came molded in a medium blue, which makes painting it harder because I have to prime it first with almost two coats of paint, (for lighter colors).
Pegasus 9006 War of the Worlds 'Tripods Attack' 1/350 Scale Plastic Model Kit. Just bought it. I would like to see your review of this one. Several people have already made good comments about it when I told them about it. Something they could relate to. You and I go back to the '50s and '60s.
I think this was an design by Convair, which never made it beyond the design stage. Like Werner von Braun designs of spacecraft in the 50's and 60's. I think someone wanted to have kits to compete with those. Anyway, I built this kit when I was a kid. Tells you how old I am. It definitely didn't have all of the decals this release does. Very cool kit. I'll be getting me one, just for the nostalgia.
Interestingly, the shuttle's original design was just like this, with the glider on top of the first stage. It was feature creep and size issues that forced it into the offset side mounted system they ended up with. Columbia's issues with ice falling off the main tank and hitting the vehicle would not have been a thing with this design.
I did a quick search for the kit, and found the original release was in 1959. The version I built as a kid in the 60's was the "Space Pirates" release. It was the same kit with a completely different set of decals. It is something I did not know about the early Shuttle's design included some of the designs from the Convair shuttle, but would make sense to start with existing designs.
When I unpacked mine few days ago and noticed that it has Presidential Seal I realized that my paint scheme would inspired by current VC-25 polished metal, gold and blue scheme.
Just wanted to say I'm probably old enough to have done several of the "fantasy" space explorer models and this one looks familiar but I don't remember the spacemen being as small and they seemed more flexible than your reissue appears !! One thing I gotta know because having served I'm glad they finally HAVE A SPACE FORCE if you knew how much Army and Air Force argue over budgeting see ARMY did own the air force and was known as USAAC US Army Air Corps until 1947 And both services had Space Commands I live a block from where the USA SPACE PROGRAM began with the former NAZI Werner Von Braun In the ROCKET CITY Huntsville Al. We need a separate branch and I have to tell you though you snicker there are already over 100,000 in the Space Force and the graduating class of the Air Force Academy had 160 space force graduates just a week ago !! If you really wanted all you would have needed was same scale and font P's for U.S. Space Force I'm a new Sub and I model for me as well but blemishes are blemishes so I myself would spend more time on body and paint ( while I write this comment 76 Dart came up on my Samsung No way to comment there so I'm on my phone !! Enjoy your channel Model on !!! BTW you know Rustoleum bought testor's right ?? I bought a testor's kit with missing instructions and found out that way they still copied the instructions and snail mailed them to me HOPE THEY KEEP TESTOR'S Alive is all I can say
This isn't pure fantasy! This based on the US Air Force's concept, known as Dyna-Soar,short for dynamic soaring vehicle. It was cancelled when the govt took the manned space program out of Air Force hands and changed N.A.C.A. to N.A.S.A. Look it up sometime,it makes for some really interesting reading. The lifting body aircraft like the one the 6 million dollar man crashed were actually developed for that program. Of course it all went on towards the actual space shuttle orbiters we all know.
Never, change the filter when it slows down and keep going. Maybe if the paint builds up too much I scrape it off and vac it up, but otherwise, that's what the booth is for, to get dirty and keep the ship clean.
I have over a thousand models of planes, ships, boats, armor, creatures, and have stowed them away. Got tired of seeing built models for $250 to $300 dollars and then the criticism for not having a pro-built model. Who Cares, just have some fun and learn your kids to articulate their hands and fingers building them, with y our help and guidance. Last night I bought the 16" Godzilla, Polar Lights $47.99, Atlas Rocket with Mercury Capsule, Atlantis, $24.75, Earth vs. The Flying Saucer, $27.00, Plan 9 from outer space flying saucer, $29.99 (rare), Convair Space Shuttle, Atlantis, $23.99, and my point is, they are not very expensive, and I was surprised. Buy one for the weekend and watch your young kids' eyes. The old black and white movies can be watched by you and your kids while you build. Most all of these moves can still be found on "TH-cam" No Gore, No Blood, just good clean movies. Thank you Hipiguy, I am going back to building, and I will build them the way I want to.. Going to start with the 16" Godzilla first, chomping on the railroad car, LOL.
The Space-X launch reminded me that I still had yet to pick one up. Very cool how the Dragon Launch Vehicle somewhat mimics the retro Von Braun/Kraft Ehricke-designed look!!
Yeah, a good design sticks around. :)
Great build Chris, I worked for Convair in San Diego for 4 years in the late 70s early 80s
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
My dad worked at Convair in San Diego from 1950-1978, he worked on this spacecraft, would always mention the issues with the tiles in the interior wouldn't adhere as designed. Nice build!
Great subject, I love these '50s and '60s space concept models. This one reminds me of the X-20 Dyna-Soar.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
I literally just checked that kit out on a model website, now I have to get it. What a cool retro kit.
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
Thanks for keeping the videos flowing during troubling times..
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
These vintage spacecraft kits are AWESOME!!!! 👍👍👍🚀🚀🚀🚀

Thank you, and for your reminder not to go insane with details and view of a child is important. Truly good
Sweet build Chris! I really dig the colors!! Fun fantastic kit!!

Being old and somewhat simple I love these simple kits from my childhood. You do wonderful work on these kits.
Thanks, it's all about the fun!
Have this kit...love the retro kits, especially the 1950’s “near future” kits...for paint scheme ideas I would recommend looking at Chesley Bonestells 1950’s space artwork...very colorful...reds and yellows on the spacecraft he painted.

I like when you tell people to build their model any way they want and just have fun, wild!!!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
It's so great these kits are being reissued.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
Great build as usual. Thanks for giving us something to enjoy.
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
Great job and build! You're a master with rustoleum and craft paints! Very inspiring!
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!

Loved the older kits not much detail but a joy to paint and build👍
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
Just bought it. It looks fun. I'm going to scribe simple panel lines on it and paint them differing shades of silvers. TY for showing this.
Thanks a lot! And thanks for spending some time on the channel!
Once again a great build Chris
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
Pretty cool kit and I really like the way you build it. The only thing I think it's "missing", is clear plastic for little "windows" for the cockpit.
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
Great work! I like the NASA decals too. It gives it a realistic look. Thanks for sharing this neat build review.
Thanks for watching!
Just bought this one! Thanks for this! I had fun just watching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this calming music and you builds 👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧🇨🇦🇺🇸🇬🇧
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
I had this as part of the space pursuit set a loooooong time ago. It was really cool.
Cool retro model. Nice.
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
A well detailed interior for the crew to sit in too...
Nice job. I have this kit. Ready to build it as soon as the weather warms up. Thanks for the video.
Enjoy it!
Everything you build are very interesting subjects.

That's an awesome kit I gotta get one. Great build as always

Thanks, small but still had details.
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!

Nice Build Chris!! I have one in my stash and was hoping you would do a build review on it..! :)
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
This kit would look really cool on top of an Atlas booster.
That is a fun quick build, love it great job as always Chris 👍👍😃
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!

FANTASTIC job !
Thank you! Cheers!
i enjoy watching your videos
Thanks a lot! And thanks for spending some time on the channel!
Was wondering when kit manufacturers would start including sanding sticks...good on Atlantis!
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
What a sweet retro kit, never built this one but did do similiar models when I was a kid. Are you going to be building the Atlantis Cheyenne helicopter as well Chris? Would love to see how that kit looks built-up .
No plans on the Cheyenne but I have a couple left that they sent before the quarantine that will be getting full builds.
Very different , but still KOOOLLL .
Mike Espo...
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
@@hpiguy Very cool.
Cool, that would bring some space adventure to kid's, they have so good imagination
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
I've watched you assemble many models.
Do you scrape off the paint in areas where you have to use glue or super glue after painting ? Thanks
Rarely, it holds fine part to part, paint and all.
@@hpiguy Both types of glue ?
Great build I really enjoyed this one! It’s just missing a miserable and slightly angry Professor Quatermass standing in the base!!!
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
This spaceship has a little crew with it.. A 😎 detailing touch!

Looks great I haven't built a rocket since 1969 the Saturn 5 rocket maybe soon thanks.
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!

Very cool build, hope you do all the UFO kits coming up from Model Roundup too
UFO kits from Modelroundup? Hmmm, didn't hear of that and I talk to him weekly. Fill me in man!
It reminds me a little of the SpaceX Starship design.
Yup, lots of people got ideas from this for sure.
Where do you get the body holder for the models when you’re spraying them in your portable booth
Tamiya paint stands from Modelroundup.com
Hey, have you thought about doing a "room tour"; showing your built kits. That would be pretty cool.
Most stuff is in storage in nice little boxes, and I try to stick to reviews, but thanks!
Did you know about the X-20 Dynasoar. The glider bears a resemblance to it.
Nope, but I'll look it up!
Sooooooo cool i wont one.👍👍😍😁✨
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
cool model :)

😎 decals.. You can choose a few different themes for this build..
I like the 2nd song what’s it called if you don’t mind?
Random tracks from the free YT music library.
Reminds me of the ICARUS from PLANET OF THE APES.
When I unpacked mine few days ago and noticed that it has Presidential Seal I realized that my paint scheme would inspired by current VC-25 polished metal, gold and blue scheme.
Enjoy!
Kinda spacey man - dig it!!!
Thanks for coming along for the FUN!
The cockpit? Say Joey, have you seen any gladiator films lately???
No, but I've been in a Turkish prison!
Looks awesome-sauce
Thanks!
So which one of those lil astronauts is Major Tom?
The one in front of course!
i think that ship was in the"man in space"episode of the series"walt disney presents"!
Cool!
I built one of the original kits in the late 60. It was on sale, I think it cost all of 60 cents as it was a non seller for the local Model Shop.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
Yes, somebody please come out with a model of the UFO from Flight of the Navigator!!! Compliance!
Dude that was my FAVORITE movie when I was a kid! I second that!
Yup, even a resin pair of the ships in fast and regular flight would be awesome.
Great!
Thanks for joining the fun!
I'm getting ready to build this kit. Cool.
Awesome

Never, change the filter when it slows down and keep going. Maybe if the paint builds up too much I scrape it off and vac it up, but otherwise, that's what the booth is for, to get dirty and keep the ship clean.

Notice the Winlets? A lot of airliners use them now. Nice decal sheet.
