John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. My friend, please read the entire Bible and but before reading please pray first especially to Lord JESUS CHRIST... Then you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free... 🙂
At one time Lord Howe also had the rarest bird on Earth, the Lord Howe Island Woodhen, with only 20 individuals left due to feral cats and pigs. The pigs and cats were removed and a breeding program was started. Happy to say the Island now has hundreds of Woodhens (natural population is limited because they are territorial).
From the North San Francisco bay inland, I recall an insect that was in great numbers in the 70's . They were all-black, looked like a hornet or wasp in body shape, but had 2 windows on each side at the beginning of the abdominal region, I called them ,"Window-backed bugs" but I think they were either related to some wasp or similar species, although it didn't sting. I found one being attacked on the way home once by a yellow jacket. I saved it, and a long story short of mending it's wings with a like- type brother of his I found in the entry way of my house, which transpired, I helped it fly off again once I gave it it's friend's transplanted new wings, fixing them to it's wing stubs with some strong adhesive. It flew-off! I was a kid when I did that. But after a handful of years, I never ever saw them again. I blame it on the tree spraying company that advertised to people with oak trees on their property to rid themselves of "Bugs"..I found many dead birds around that time, too. Does anyone know what insect I'm speaking of? I guess I should look it up, come to think of it. But do tell.
Amazing, a bug that survived against all the odds. Compared to some others, ie, tigers, and others, due to human interference. Out of sight out of harm, comes to mind.
I was all sad when you said the stick bug was wiped out, but I was so happy when you said they were saved! No, I wouldn't want to hold one (not keen on touching bugs), but I don't want anything bad to happen to them unless they're a danger to humans or other animals.
That narrator possesses audio charisma... he is extremely engaging, has perfect dry humor, and therefore is a pleasure to listen to. A quite rare combination. Ever listened to John Michael Godier's vids? Same observations apply imo. -- TYVM.
I never forgot the time in Nevada when I accidentally ran into a Black Bee hive..was out hiking with a friend...I just bumped them my head was down...I ran like the wind and the entire hived (it seemed) chased me...lucky for me I kept on purpose running into branches and bushes and I lost them etc...near Mt Charleston
I'm glad they are not extinct. However, you said "that's how they saved themselves" without ever actually describing how they saved themselves. Did they burrow in the ground until the rats starved to death? Are they poisonous to the rats and killed the rats off before the rats ate all the bugs? We are missing the "how they saved themselves" part I feel.
The quokka on rottnest island almost became extinct as it used to be connected to western Australia. Due to it being cut off. The species now thrive on rottnest island.

I am sorry to break it to you but I have seen these insects in Cuenca-Ecuador. They call it "ututo" and It's worth mentioning that the city is nowhere near the cost and it's located rather in the highlands. This is nothing new there and I believe they proliferate during the rainy season when they can be seen in large numbers. Anyhow, this is one place I have personally witnessed the insect without even having to look for it and who knows where else you might be able to find it.
Thank you, this was fun! But I have to pose a few questions to scientists. Why did they need to repopulate the bugs? Aren't there plenty already? Also, I wonder if scientists are the worlds best guessers. Unless, sharks have birth certificates... 400 years old? Although that seems impossible, I hope they don't start dissecting them for the fountain of youth. . .
There is an effort on the island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic to save the last endemic animal on the island which is a small Plover bird named locally as the wire bird
Where I grew up we had many pheasants and walking sticks, crawdads and triangular leaches. In the later 1950s they vanished for no apparent reason. The land has since then been 'developed'. The land stinks now and the fertile black soil is gone.
