These are drug TMV times. Omar and Cedric are flying high, high, high. Pretty impressed by the interviewer who amazingly keeps these two word answers going.
+seekah1 don't validate yourself by sounding so condescending and bitter. Your existence means nothing to me, let alone your comment. As to why I decided to reply, I guess I wanted you to read this. Now that you have, begone.
+seekah1 so bitter. so very bitter. I hope you crawl out of that hole you've dug for yourself man. there is no need for the animosity you are portraying. also you ain't calm mate.
Maybe the music is not the only thing that maintains me connected to this band, but also their internal vision and interpretation of what they are and how their evolution and direction is unknown even for them. The instinctive and self-indulgent way of creating music is really similar to what I do to paint. Also how their metaphorical references are as simple as every day's events.
That Aussie interviewer dealt with Omar's haughty hipster bullshit like a boss and kept what had the potential to be a difficult interview right on track. Even got Omar genuinely engaged for a few moments. Got him chiming in with some actual input instead of just being a petulant douche, acting like someone forced him to do this "corny" interview. I would show this to communications/broadcast students as an excellent example of nuance, context and timing in dealing with potentially peevish interview subjects.
Omar is one of my favorite guitarists but I agree with you Omar as a person is a bit of a wanker. Remember an interview with just him and him saying he's "potentially a rapist" because "all men are potentially rapists."
Nice to see someone call him out for a change, I love tmv and atdi don't get me wrong. But these guys were elitist tools for years. Cedric seems to have calmed down. Idk about omar though.
@guitarboy12 personally i think it's two things. 1) they always drive home the fact that the live performance is supposed to be different then the album. different in a more exciting "what next?' kinda way. 2) the kid imply's they might not be able to recreate all the sonic manipulation and guitar effects live, which is anything but true.
Actually I think he was saying rather than trying to capture the experience of the album onstage, they try to capture the live experience on the album. At least that's what they tried to do in At The Drive-In.
fando y lis was a great film by alejandro jodorowsky. it's interesting cedric mentions that film, because alejandro went on to do really psychedelic, absurdist and mystical films which i guess now that i think about it could have influenced tmv :)
OMG you can see omar expression. like -omg, wtf- when that guy ask him about the live recreation xD ... and for real. people get like that when TMV is on stage xD
One reason i like the mars volta is they really take pride in thier music as an art. I think if they get erked by anything is when people put them up on a pedastool to the extreme.
Music is music. Not competition on which question wasnt smart enough or what you "think" the band members think. In the end you should just appreciate the good music.
Agree. The whole macho thing is more relevant to some styles than others. There is plenty of hardcore out there that is positive and has a gender neutral 'message'.
on the contrary to other peoples opinions, i think this is soooo much better and less awkward than many more of the australian interviews these guys have had to sit though
Hey bro. A month late but here’s what I’d do. Actually it’s what I did. I’ve been on TMV since 2005-ish. They’re an album band. It’s honestly best to just start from the beginning with them. Listen to Tremulant EP first. Then Deloused in the Comatorium. Then Frances The Mute, and so on. Just run through their entire discography. It’s all good at the very least. Some of it is unprecedented. Some of the best, if not the best collection of music I’ve ever heard. I don’t mean to hype them up, but they’re my favorite band. And if you liked ATDI, you’ll love The Mars Volta.
@mrfudgeyhead roulette dares was my favorite off of deloused for so long. that one guitar part (you know which one i mean) is SOOOOOOOOOOO gooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!
I have a question, hopefully someone can tell me. I have the Deloused vinyl and the lyrics are not on the sleeve like Omar says on this interview..how come?
Tis humility is outrageous ! Jared Leto " I don't watch my own films" 😂 woo ... Yes humility is attractive when it is genuine in one knowing the down to earth sells lol
@TheWobbuffet3 Im pretty sure you can find it. I have the movie, its called "Fando y Lis" . I bought it along with a box set of Jodorowski movies. Check it out..
What it comes down to... The interview was suuuperficial as fuck... The whole thing feels like a routine down to the interviewer asking the same dumb questions, regardless of what band is up there... There is nothing personable about any of it. Omar picked up on it RIGHT away... Cedric was a little more polite, but Omar... lol he took it and ran with it... I started dying laughing after Omar cupped the mic and made complete nonsense noise and the interviewer just continued to ask an even dumber question, not even paying any mind to the fact that Omar just made fun of the stupid question at hand. The interviewer continued because he doesn't truly give a fuck about either one of them or what they have to say, because this is his job and is getting through it just to get his pay check. Omar knows this, and THAT is why he is being a "dick" in some of your people's view.
interviewer fails again 3:30 3:54 the other guy makes idiot comment 4:01 wtf kinda question is that 4:43 interviewer alters the caller's question this interview is terrbile.
Maybe it's because he doesn't like the interviewing part of the industry, and really dumbass interviewers like this one in the video are always asking stupid questions. They try to make bands feel like what they're doing is sooo important & scientific which i know for a fact makes Omar and Cedric roll their eyes.
Oh, yeah interviewers are shitty. But even so, if someone's trying to ask you about your music and work, you should at least pretend like you're interested enough to talk about. And Omar just never gives a shit, and even in interviews where he answers the question, he just ask like his shit don't stink and all that. No one can deny he's incredibly arrogant.
Colin Poole why do anything if you don't want to? they shouldn't be forced to act like anything, that's what makes them honest. They're not like this anymore and see that they were dicks sometimes but im glad they were. Same goes for System of a Down during press. "Pretend" is for phony people. Sometimes he was arrogant, at least pre-2010, but i usually always agree with what he's saying so good for him.
Colin Poole well if ur not gonna try to understand their situation then why even bother answering ppl or having a discussion? If you're saying he's simply arrogant then fine. I dont see a problem with being arrogant when you're being given dumb questions. It's better than being phony. It's also not arrogant to me because Omar doesn't act like his music is better than others. He ALWAYS says he's not the creator of his music, he's just arranging sounds that already exist out of thin air. That's the opposite of arrogant. He's not all "i create art and it's better than yours". Some come off of it. This australian douche bag interviewer looks like he wants to suck them off or something.
dude that girl in the background had a vinyl de-loused. thats sick
To all you guys looking for "Fondo Elise", it's called "Fando Y Lis". It's a Jodorowsky film. Look it up, as well as his other works.
Will do.
Jodorowsky = Genius 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Watch El Topo. Do shrooms. Watch again. Then, more shrooms and watch Santa Sangre, 3 times then you can understand TMV a bit better.
One of the best bands of the 2000's, I think.
All time*
At the drive in are better. The Mars Volta will never make an album as good as relationship of command.

They're back! 🤘
These are drug TMV times. Omar and Cedric are flying high, high, high. Pretty impressed by the interviewer who amazingly keeps these two word answers going.
Is there any interview of them talking about the WAY they recorded? The recording, the mixing and mastering, the brainstorming for ideas...
apple music interview, omar confirms that he composes constantly without knowing what parts will end up as The Mars Volta, or a solo project
The Mars Volta is one of my favorite bands of all time. Hands down. Definitely in my top 5.

I'm pretty confident that Omar is high.

I'm not an artist but I definitely agree with your statements. Their attitudes and approach towards creativity are a true inspiration.
:45 amazingly quick comeback from the interviewer haha
"The blank stare reaction" is amazement.
3:35 I got that tattooed on my ribs in the same font as the album artwork along with one of the little red men...
he's laughing at the interviewer because he's begging for them to dumb their music down and TMV obviously aint about that shit.
"Yo moriré y nadie se acordará de mí."
I love the way they look at each other at :38 :D
