The only big band who saw the bullshit and said, 'We're out.' Roger Waters saw it too, but he was earlier, in the days you could still get record deals and publicity that counted. Whenever you get above the crowd you are given two choices: are you in, or are you out. And by in, they mean your soul, literarily. The Clash never lost their soul. Their connection with spirit. With the unknown. They got it :) My favourite band since I was 13, and they never let me down.
Been listening to The Clash for over 15 years, but I just listened to this song for the first time. Even though they always tried many different styles I was surprised with this, they almost sound like an entirely different band. Great song!
Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts Every night I cry Every night I sigh Every night I wonder why You treat me cold But I can't let you go Every little hurt time Every little hurt time Say you're coming home But you never phone Leave me all alone My love is strong for you I do long for you I can't take this loneliness You're giving me Can't go on Giving my life away Come back to me Darling you'll see I can give all the things That you wanted before If you'll stay Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts Every night I cry Every night I sigh Every night I wonder why You hurt me Desert me I can't take this lonliness You're giving me I can't go on Giving my life away Come back to me Darling you'll see I can give all the things That you wanted before If you'll stay Every little bit hurts Every little bit hurts Every night I cry Every night I sigh Every night I wonder why You treat me cold But I can't let you go Every little bit hurts Every little bit
ok i get your point, but i really cant understand that anyone can say that the clash version is painful to listen to ... like i have said the song is a sad one, they make it sound like its happening to them ... awesome version with real feelings i would say
this song makes me wanna hold mick and cuddle him. I feel the pain in his voice and I've felt the same pain with a girl who was my best friend and I fell in love with her. but anyway this song is fantastic. haven't heard any other version but I don't need to. this is instantly my favorite. I always loved mick's songs because they are either about love (I think mick is a heartthrob) or his voice is just really good!(ya got to admit his voice is super hot)
I used to love someone…The only one I loved. But he didn’t love me…In fact, when he found out I wasn’t the money women he split. That loss was the most painful thing I went through…
Original by Brenda Holloway, covers by The Small Faces, The Jam, Spencer Davis Group, Laura Lee, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, and most recently Alicia Keys. Adds up to being one of the greatest songs written, I think
Kevin Richards It blows every other version out of the water. The Clash has been my favorite band since I started listening to music and I can't believe I've never heard this.
I will admit the first time I heard this I chuckled a bit, feeling like Mick was being melodramtic (even though he is my favorite). The second time I actually caught the desperation in his voice. I feel like a damn fool for dismissing it first. It's such an honest cover, I really empathize with him now.

Perky Dog. I know that, know the clash inside out but I was only pointing out they never wrote this because you posted about their song writing on a video of this track.
@@nahumcarreno6554 Without the Beatles, the Clash wouldn’t have happened and don’t forget, the Beatles paid their dues playing long nights in shit houses long before success came knocking on their door.
I don't understand why they didn't put this on Sandinista. As much as I love that album it's hard to deny that it has some "filler" tracks. This would have been way better than a bunch of them that I can think of off the top of my head. Mick's vocal is really heart felt...maybe some of the others didn't want to use it for that reason, sadly.
it was only ever released on their box set Clash on broadway , great compilation of just about all their single releases and other tracks such as this one :)
i knew it wasnt an original, its just that i never heard of brenda holloway,i just listened to her, still think the clash do a better job but then THE CLASH were absolutely great at any cover they did.go on THE CLASH
yes m8 ... whenever they done a cover version it was from then on their song, they always made their version sound so much better than the originals. it was also the same thing when they done their own songs but done in a different type of music .. for example, look here (jazz) sound of the sinners (gospel) etc, etc. thats what made them so good
yes your right, by the way ... sorry i had a go at you but i can see what you mean by xfactor and stars, but because it came to my inbox i thought you were directing it to me personally, and i had`nt said nothing about the singing of the song apart from saying why The Clash sing it like they do, It`s what i`ve been saying all along ... well ok respect to the small faces , i never said they dont deserve respect, i just personally dont like them, i do like a few of their tracks IE: itchycoo park, all or nothing, watcha gonna do about it, and sha-la-la-la-le, but thats about it . ok now ?
truly a band that had so much to say and they changed many peoples lives (mine for one) and any good music that`s around today then you can bet they influenced those as well.
Well I got a little education today. Didn't realize that this was a cover. Either way, you have to cut the Clash some slack for 1) showing a tender side of themselves, and 2) having the balls to cover a tune that may not be appreciated by some of their fans. And you'd be heartless not to appreciate the pain and sincerity in Jones' voice. Man, I wish I didn't miss the whole punk era.
Music was great... not alot else was! I keep finding stuff before my time and I'm blown away by the sounds and the times. Dont regret. Enjoy and learn.
well im sorry but if you think steve winwood got a voice then your easily pleased, i have heard both the artists you mention but none grab me on this song other than the clash .... just to let you know ... i heard brenda`s version before i heard the clash sing it so its not like i thaught it was a clash song from when i first heard it ... just saying that cause peeps normally like the first version they hear better than any others
The band that showed us what it is to play every genre and play it with exception. The only band who could do it... Thanks for the memories...
well said
Small faces dis it as well

Agreed 100% and more. Unforgettable heros then and now !

Only Mick and Topper are on this. No Joe... No Paul
Never heard mick sound so soulful
@@vonslagle no Paul?
Apparently,Mick used to sing this with Chrissy Hynde
Jonesy, what a voice, the Clash...the soundtrack to my youth, thank you lads and God love and bless you Joe x
Every now and then a forgotton classic is unearthed. Yes there are many great versions of this song, but for me, this is outstanding.
Mick showing his romantic, lonely side, heavenly influenced by the extremely wonderful Steve Marriot and Faces and Humble Pie. RIP Joe and Steve etc.

Best Cover Ever.
Unrequited love is an angst-ridden, mo’fr of a punk song. It’s real.
Wow. Didn't know this existed. Gorgeous version!
ok i get your point, but i really cant understand that anyone can say that the clash version is painful to listen to ... like i have said the song is a sad one, they make it sound like its happening to them ... awesome version with real feelings i would say
Been listening to the Clash since 1978 but never heard this before.
Same here. It is OK but Small Faces and the original are the best with Spencer Davis Group doing a great job as well.
It was a demo that only came out in 1994

the jam did a good version also, it's on youtube somewhere
"haven't heard any other version but I don't need to. this is instantly my favorite."
That pretty much sums up blind faith.

Wow, wow. You have to elaborate. What happened with the girl?

martymefurst it is!
What?! This is amazing! I was searching for this song by the Jam and found this...i thought it was mislabeled at first! Thank you!!!
Chris Broussard no problem. Great version isn't it 😀
Kevin Richards It blows every other version out of the water. The Clash has been my favorite band since I started listening to music and I can't believe I've never heard this.
Chris Broussard it sure does mate. It's on the box set clash on Broadway. Check it out, there's other songs on there you probably haven't heard.
Keji1, you are true fan. I really respect your devotion to the band and the genre itself.
why do i cry at so many of the clash songs i did see them ones and joe after that got to say hes my hero
I loved this song ever since I heard it

the only band that mattered period
Did you make that up yourself?
Dan G. The only guy that matters. Whats the problem man?
Baby Driver got me searching this song...glad I did, what a version!!
mick nails this one
michael joshua MCBLAIN
Mick nails everything
Perky Dog its good but marriott really nails it and weller and the jams is also better
Love you Mick but today is Joes day Happy Birthday. You are in all our hearts. Not gone and not forgotten.
Joe recognised the greatness in his band si they all got to own something and he gave them the 100% backing that they gave him on every track
Total Jonesy! ❤
the only band that matters
;)
and still does ;)
Still a massive part of my life, play their music on a daily basis.
Did you make that up by yourself?
omg... speechless.. love it!!!

ah well what can you do when you live in a shoe 'cept tie your aces well done for uploadin this listen to it every day
I really don't think Mick ever sang better than this.
gorgeous..
It does the same to me, the most important line in this song for me has to be "I just can't go on giving my life away"
Class from the CLASH
dead right m8, you just described this song exactly as it is, and how it should always be
wow, simply amazing
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
Every night I cry
Every night I die
Every night I wonder why
You treat me cold
Yet you won't let me go
Every little hurt does
Every little hurt does
To you I am a toy
And you're the girl
Who has the say
Why I should play
Yeah you hurt me
Desert me I just can't take
The loneliness you give me
I just can't go
Another night this way
Come back to me
Darlin' you'll see
I can give you all the things
You wanted me for
If you will stay with me
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
Every night I cry
Every night I die
Every night I wonder why
You treat me cold
Yet you won't let me go
Come back to me
Darlin' you'll see
I can give you all the things
That you wanted me for
If you will stay with me
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
Every little bit hurts
it's been hiding from me. until now! i looove it :)))
Best version indeed. Mick is amazing!
Great mod soul. Bet the mods and modettes were dancing cheek to cheek to this tune back in the 60's.
great freaking song
mick sings it with feeling, as if it is happening to him .. therefore it mean so much more .... bye bye ..
Jones and strummer, the new Lennon/McCartney? no, better.
Perky Dog but they didn't write this song.
Kevin Richards so? Listen to death is a star, Tommy gun, remote control, countless more... Their harmony is incredible
Perky Dog. I know that, know the clash inside out but I was only pointing out they never wrote this because you posted about their song writing on a video of this track.

@ABITTERSWEETGIRL .... well said, i agree completely, they sure make this their own
Best version I think, this one has the most feeling, so much im about to man cry haha
Better than than the Jam version. Mick Jones doesn't wish he was a soul singer here but gives it his unpretentious stint for real.
nicely put m8
Good stuff, but where did this recording come from? Why have I not been informed of its existence until now?
it was only ever released on their box set Clash on broadway , great compilation of just about all their single releases and other tracks such as this one :)
Kevin Richards Yep.
Sandinista Sessions
Flippin love it
FYI: This song appears on the 3 CD compilation set 'Clash on Broadway'
thanks to upload Kevin
no problem mate

This is not better than the original. It's good, but not better.
Aaawwwwwww this song reminds me of a girl I really adore but took me for granted I love you clarrisa! :,,,(
@elashmel ..... i was puzzled in what you said on your comment, you said stoopy just stoopy , what did you mean ?

Winwood with the Spencer Davis Group gives it a different twist again. I like both versions. Took me awhile to hear this one though.
It may sound strange, but Bobby Rydell brought me here...
TANX!
GD FOR THE CLASH THIS IS A GREAT SONG LISTEN TO LYRICS
Yeah, well they didn't write it, cupcake. It's an old soul tune by Brenda Holloway.
What do you mean "for the clash"? Also, it's a cover
This is so much better than some of the content released on Sandinista! Shame it never made it on the final cut, because I really do like it.
Can u buy this song on iTunes?
Don't expect so. It's on their 3 box set Clash on Broadway.
