The 2004 video absolutely screams mid-00s in it's aesthetic and editing yet you can see where some classic Geoff shots are being born. I love that the coming up the escalator shot is one you still use 19 years later.
Also, how on earth have you not aged in the last 20 years. It's so unfair!

    • @geofftech2

I can promise you I have aged! I just don’t drink or smoke, and do exercise …. It all helps 😅

Not sure what is more shocking:
The amount of effort that Geoff put in to making his first video, 19 years ago
The amount of effort that Geoff put in to making a video about him making his first video
That Flamboyant by Pet Shop Boys is 19 years old!

Wow! I looked for your channel after Jon of Autoshenanigans mentioned you, and this video popped up first, which is amazing as I was one of those 50p contributors. Back then you got me interested in the London Underground and I joined you on Tube Relief 2005, continuing to follow your exploits for a few more years (including your trip around the US). Fast forward to 2023 and not only have I stumbled across you again by accident, but a colleague mentioned your name the other day in an unrelated conversation! Glad to see you're still producing great content and maybe there are another 20 years to come?!

To be totally honest, I can not think of any other person than you, Mr Geoff Marshall, that gets so much out of everyday life, everyday belongings, surrounding people and surrounding world. You have so much to tell, so many stories to share.... From iPod, to "Secrets of the Underground", from the Tube Challenge and your TV appearances ("The Tube" Series, BBC, Game shows) to All the Stations, from Utah in United States to "Żary Park Run" in Poland. But the best thing is that your legacy is still running and will continue. It makes me so happy that there are so many wonderful people around you Geoff, that can give you the smile, like you give it to us. And I really look up to you, that you find the time in your life to do it so. One more time, Thank you so much and stay safe, from TriCity in Poland.

This is good to see. I'm not that bothered about his first video, but a few months ago Geoff was in a state of depression after a breakup. I guess I had been in denial but this triggered me and I suffered depression for a few days after. So it's really positive that Geoff seems to be in a much better place now, looking back with nostalgia. My depression was short lived, and I've had no recurrence, feeling really positive now. Thanks Geoff for all your inspiring videos!

It made me think back to the early 2000's and how simple things were, everyone had a dream and hope. We are all a bit too spoilt these days...lol, and I don't think anyone can say they never used LimeWire at least once 😂😂🤣🤣

The man, the myth, the legend! To think this is how it all began, and that it went viral so organically, way before social media made going viral so efficient.. You are correct. People originally sent your iPod quest round by email. That's how I got it. But the reason we sent you money in the first place was because of how cleverly you asked and kept track of all the contributors, their song choices, etc., with the hilarious charts and everything on your blog. Remember back then blogs were the big thing! Super fun to travel across the globe and meet up with you and experience all your hospitality. And don't forget I brought you the color Ipod (the next model up) when I came in 2005. I'd forgotten. Just took a trip down memory lane myself on the Wireless Lanai blog. We had fun that trip! Truly good times! Signed, #202 x

Just watched the video Geoff, and I totally agree, you done a damned good job of editing it all those years back! Really nice to see how you started out. You have come a long way since then, and have made so many great videos using your talents. Bet you would never have dreamed that many years from then you would be responsible for granddaughter insisting I drove her 30+ miles to our nearest railway station (Tiverton Parkway) one evening in the depths of winter, just so that she could hear the engineering announcement you recorded for the Great Western Railway on the station tannoy! Thanks for that Geoff! But really, love your videos, always something I look forward to. Thanks.

It was 14 years ago now, in 2009. Gonna watch and listen to stayed stored there... 😅

Interesting, Geoff. I never knew you used to work for the BBC. My background is television too, and in 2003/2004 I had been working at the network I was at for 3-4 years at that point. My first professional job after university. I was also really into Apple, and doing well enough to get my first iMac in 2002. When the 2nd Gen. iPod came out here in the states on May 2nd of 2003, I waited in line at my fairly brand new Apple retail store and was the very first person in line to buy one out of hundreds of people. The store even took a few digital photos of me that I still have. But it’s just wild how certain people’s lives almost parallel in some ways. If I lived in the U.K. or you in the states I very well might have been one of your friends you talked about sitting in that Nando’s. I’m also a rail enthusiast. Hence why I watch your channel.
