There’s an easter egg in Octopussy that many won’t understand.
When Bond is jumped by the tiger in the jungle chase and he says “Siiiit!” and does the hand gesture - that’s a direct reference to Barbara Woodhouse, an elderly dog trainer who was absolutely massive on UK TV around 1981. Her “Siiiit!” and hand gesture was her very famous catchphrase.

    • @felipecardoza9967
      @felipecardoza9967 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

It was perfectly understood when the film came out; at least to everyone in the theater when I saw it.

When the movie came out there was a german advertisement for Esso about gas for automobiles. It was about a tiger and the slogan can be translate as "Put the tiger in the tank". And in the german version of Octoussy Bond says: "You belong in the tank". That makes it more funnier that the tiger goes away after he said that and in my opinion it's a good solution. No one in Germany knows Barbara Woodhouse, so they used another reference and joke.

The bullets on the truck in "License to Kill" were just terribly funny. It's one of those goofy things in a Bond movie we just apreciate no matter what.
No Time to Die was a bit too far with references I think.
For an Easter Egg not mentioned here, I can remember of the jetpack from the beginning of Thunderball, making its appearence in Die Another Day among other relics from the past, as Brosnan fire it up to the despair of Cleese trying to shut it down as quickly as possible.

  • @lqr824

Not an easter egg but a detail they got perfectly: in Goldfinger, Auric stops to get apricots in the Swiss alps and almost gets shot. 12:32 - Fun fact: when Casino Royale was shown on British Airways flights, they actually cut Branson's cameo from the movie. The two parties had a tiff in the 1990s back when Branson was just expanding his airline, which ended up with Branson suing BA for libel and won.

Excellent, well-reseachred video. But regarding the "Old Albert" name for the alligator in "Live and Let Die," that could have been a reference to Albert the Alligator, a character from the comic strip "Pogo," which was hugely popular in the United States in its time. Created by Walt Kelly and lasting from 1948 to 1975, the strip was set in the Okifenokee Swamp and starred Pogo, a purple opossum. It was a political satire, known for condemning the red scare and McCarthyism during the 1950's. The strip coined the phrase "We have met the enemy and he is us" for the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970. At least in the US when the movie debuted, that's the Albert audiences may have first thought of.

Worth mentioning is the fact that any number of 007 movies (not all of them from separate eras) have 'references of sorts' to those with the same lead actor.
Not sure if if anyone has observed the stairwell fight in Craig's final 007 movie appears to be a "slight throwback" to his first, where he encounters a villain and they got killed : only 007 never made an 'joke' in Casino Royale about the bad guy's death - I couldn't help noticing this.

These are fun, and yes, several I didn't know about, so thanks. DAF easily explained and not just silly. The moon set was meant to be a "front" (sign says U.S. Government Restricted Area) - a false cover business as one of NASA's many contracted support businesses to support moon landing missions by testing equipment, moon buggy, and suits for walking on moon (therefore the "slow-motion" movements as the astronauts would have suits weighted-down to simulate slower movements of moon). There were many such businesses, and still are for other NASA missions. This was a perfect front/fake cover business since SPECTRE was working on space satellite technology at the facility. BTW, others probably pointed out that you mentioned wrong car model in NTTD -- not a Sunbeam but a Chevy Bel Air.

No time to die seems like a 3 hour easter egg for honouring James Bond. Every car he uses, the plan with fold-out wings, the golden lighter in Madeleines childhood house, using and killing all old characters like Leiter, and Blofield, small segments of music referring to "You only live twice" and other bond music etc etc. About the title I'm convinced that "No Time to die", is about going from the first Bond movie Dr "No" to its "Time to die" for Bond homage. The movie is a humble and respectful Easter egg bonanza for all the fans out there.

I am surprised that Sean Connery used the line "Oh! The things I do for England" for several reasons.
    1) its the BRITISH secret service that he works for, not the ENGLISH secret service.
BRITAIN is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
    2) anyone who knew Connery, knew he was a Scottish nationalist - so I imagine such a line would really stick in his throat unless he is demonstrating just how easily swayed he was by money.

My favorite Bond Eastet Egg is in 'Die Another Day": Bond is engaged in a VR traunging exercise, in whic MI6 HQ has been overrun by terrorists. The last target is in M's office, and is holding her hostage. Bond shoots tge terrorist, nicking M's ear. The program ends, and Q says something along the lines of "You know, Bond, it's considered bad form to shoot your boss!" to which Bond replies "Yes, but if you look at the replay, you'll see it's only a flesh wound."
    .

There are two in The Spy Who Loved Me
The first is when the crews of the British and Soviet submarines pile onto the US sub when the crews of all three boats escape. The US captain just shouts for anyone to man a station and a Soviet officer goes to a weapons station and starts reading the manual - to which an American enlisted crewman does a double take. The joke there being there was case at the time of the Soviet navy wanting to get their hands on USN weapon manuals and to which there was bribes being paid
The second is the singing of "Nobody does it better" - thats actually the Ship's Company of HMS _Fearless_

During lockdown, couldn’t go out much and lack of sex, I watched all the Bond films again (bar NTTD obviously) thoroughly. One thing I looked through in each was to find date references to the time of production and/or film release. I didn’t count fashions, trends, advertising styles (like 7up in Moonraker) technological updates etc but things that may carry a date/date range of the time. A few films don’t have them. Many do. OHMSS (letters between Gumbold and Sir Hilary Bray), Casino Royale (text messages and security footage) are very easy to spot. In the PTS for Octopussy, it has the most obvious reference to a date in the franchise when Bond’s/Torro’s pass is dated 25.08.1982. I only recently spotted that in DAD, Jinx’s date of birth doesn’t appear to be “Friday the 13th”… Pre-October 2014 UK car tax disc appear in shot regularly (Astons and Lotus) and sometimes can be read giving a date range of when filmed. If you ever get as a sad as me, there’s a lot of date references in the films to find. There are some miscellaneous ones as well.

There is another Easter egg in No Time To Die that some people may not know. Remember when Paloma told Bond in the wine cellar that she had 3 weeks training? Well it's true. Ana De Armas trained for 3 weeks for her role in NTTD in real life. After she kept telling Cary Fukunaga, " I just have three weeks training" many many times. Cary told Ana, "Say that in the movie." And the rest became history.
