How to Pronounce: Book, Song, Movie, Show

Hello! I'm John Russell.
At some point, you will probably talk about your favorite book, song, movie, or show.
All of these nouns are spelled with the letter "o." Book has two o's, while song, movie and show each have one “o.”
Although we write these words with the letter “o,” we pronounce them with different vowel sounds. I'll explain.
book has this vowel sound: /ˈbʊk/
song has this vowel sound: /ˈsɑːŋ/
movie has this vowel sound: /ˈmuːvi/
show has this vowel sound: /ˈʃoʊ/
These examples teach you an important point about English. The vowel sounds in particular can be somewhat tricky.
As a result, it is important to develop the ability to carefully distinguish between vowel sounds.
Let's take our four nouns and use them in sentences. This will help us develop a sense of the different vowel sounds.
